Source above

PS4 has sold through to consumers more than 5.9 million units*1 during the 2017 holiday season.

PS4 has now cumulatively sold through more than 73.6 million units*2 globally as of December 31, 2017.

More than 55.9 million*3 PS4 games were sold during the 2017 holiday season in retail stores worldwide and through digital downloads on PlayStation®Store. This totals up to 645.0 million copies*4 cumulatively sold as of December 31, 2017.

Seemed worth posting, couldn't see a thread. And to stress: Sold through, not shipped.

Incredibly impressive. I could see them hitting 100M by the end of the year. If not then definitely in 2019.

With the game line up that is supposed to come out this year I wouldn't be terribly surprised if they hit 100m by the end of the year. That'd be a pretty giant feat though.

10 million and change behind the Xbox 360.

By the end of the year the PS4 will be ahead of the GBA, PSP, PS3, and 360.

It will be behind the PS2, DS, Gameboy, PlayStation, and Wii.

A year and couple of months away from 100 million ?

So mid 2019 ps4 will pass 100 million.

I feel they are considering either fall 2019 or 2020 to launch ps5

If it were some sort of record they would have mentioned it, right?

That's a lot of PS4s during the holidays, so if that wasn't a holiday record, some other year must have been crazy.

Ah, there it is. 2016 was crazy.

They could have beat that this year if the had $199 for USA for Dec .
Still 5% decline is not bad and we looking at another good year of games.

What do the *1, *2 and *3 mean? It's driving me nuts lol

This:

*1 Number of retail sales to consumers is estimated by SIE. PS4 sales data in Japan and Asia collected 11/20/2017 – 12/31/2017, in North America and Latin America collected 11/19/2017 – 12/30/2017, in Europe collected 11/20/2017 – 12/31/2017.
*2 Number of retail sales to consumers is estimated by SIE. Sales data in Japan collected 2/22/2014 – 12/31/2017, in North America collected 11/15/2013 – 12/30/2017, in Latin America collected 11/29/2013 – 12/30/2017, in Europe collected 11/29/2013 – 12/31/2017 and in Asia collected 12/17/2013 – 12/31/2017.
*3 Number of retail sales to consumers is estimated by SIE. Sales data in Japan and Asia collected 11/20/2017 – 12/31/2017, in North America and Latin America collected 11/19/2017 – 12/30/2017, in Europe collected 11/20/2017 – 12/31/2017.

The possible $199 price point will be crazy this year.

Basically citations I didn't bother to edit out. They are respectively:

So PS4 sold 20 million units this year? Wow. 100 million by mid 2019. 125 million lifetime.

First time for PS4 to break 20M in a CY. That would also make it 3rd (or maybe 4th - not sure about PS1 since we only have shipments for those days) console to achieve that.

If it were some sort of record they would have mentioned it, right?
IIRC they mentioned 2016 was the biggest holiday season (or Q3?) for PS ever.

Very good Sony.

Shipped numbers around 75mil probably.

If they price drop around April or so, then they'll have another 17+mil year.

Damn, that's still good. I expected a much bigger drop in the holiday since it's competing against the Xbox One X and Switch.
It is in line with the expectations.

More competition due to Switch and Xbox One X.
No new console release in the Ps4 Pro.
Arguable worse deals this year compared to last year (at least in the US).
The last week of November was unusually big.
Japan sales are are already confirmed to be down during the holiday period.

Wow, we going to hit 100 million in no time. I'm thinking 120 million when the dust settles.
