German-based website – ComputerBase conducted an interesting test. They compared NAVI based RX 5700 to a similarly spec'd RX 590. Both cards were run at 1.5GHz and come with 2304 shading units. They created benchmarks with a few games such as Metro Exodus, Battlefield 5, Hitman 2 and others.

The results were staggering. On average NAVI based GPU performed 40% better than POLARIS based GPU. This suggests that the PlayStation 5 and the next Xbox should offer at least 40% more IPC that current-gen consoles.

Suggesting the power leap
Speculating a bit here now, imagine a 10.5 TFlops NAVI based PS5 that is around 350% more powerful than PS4 PRO and around 800% more than regular PS4 (Slim).

The way it work is this. It's safe to assume that next-gen consoles should offer around 10 TFlops of GPU raw power. This NAVI 10.5 Tflops machine should perform like 14.7 TFlops Polaris GPU. Just for clarification, there are currently no 14.7 TFlops POLARIS cards as AMD jumped to VEGA for more powerful cards. This would mean that the PlayStation 5 should perform like a 14.7 TFlops PS4 PRO if one were ever produced.

This just shows how powerful next generation of consoles should be. These numbers may be off by 10%-20% as we do not know final specs of these new consoles but I hope I provided a clear hint of what to expect next year.

If you add 4x more powerful CPUs to the bracket we are looking at a real next generation leap over current consoles especially the base models.

I would be interested to see a CPU comparison.

Edit: I know it is all speculation but feels like cpu jumps are much harder to quantify and are a much bigger deal.

The PS4 pro isn't a 590 and I don't think the PS5 will be a 5700.

I think the biggest increases for next gen will be in storage and CPU. Not necessarily a large jump in GPU (particularly from the XB1X).

I'm excited to see games developed without compromises. At least until they push the graphics to the limit and we get 30fps again.

I think as a separate thread this is rather misleading. Would be perfect as an addition to the next gen speculation thread though.

Just about 6x the base PS4 CPU seems very, very likely

I'm sure we'll get 30fps games right off the bat. Sadly most devs don't care enough about performance to do 60fps on consoles. They'd rather have more effects and visual shenanigans than a smooth gameplay experience.

Don't we have next gen thread?

Would be nice if it was news or leak but if it's just assumptions then maybe not a thread.

5700 is 8tf rdna card and that's a minimum what we'll get in PS5. Equals about 2070/2070 SUPER performance and 10% better than Vega 64.

They are gonna need some GPU power for next gen graphics+ 1440p/4k CR

So current gen we got a $150 GPU and laptop CPU and next gen we get a $350 GPU and a full fledged Ryzen?

Not sure I buy that.

The PS5 isn't going to have an RX 5700 in it though. It'll have a heavily customized GPU BASED ON Navi, not a literal iteration of a dedicated desktop video card. If anything it gives us somewhat of a baseline...but then again the RX 5700 series was really made for 1440p and not 4K gaming.

At E3 Xbox said that Project Scarlett would be four times as powerful as the Xbox One X, so that certainly seems to be what the hardware is aiming at.

The RX 5700 XT is like 9.5tf and 250w. delusional.

Having been playing videogames exclusively on my PC for over a decade now, and having recently bought a PS4 Pro, I'm having a VERY hard time with games running at 30FPS. Going from TLOU at 60 straight to U4 at 30 has been very rough. I'll take smooth last gen visuals any time of day. The day devs start using the increase in power to start offering a 60FPS option in most games is the day I start considering doing some of my gaming on consoles again.

if thats the case be careful when ejecting disks, they might shear your hand clean off since they're spinning so fast

Around 10 Tflops sounds more accurate, Microsoft at e3 said the next gen Xbox is 4 times stronger than Xbox one X but that would be 24 Tflops

The PS5 and Scarlett will not be packing the power of a GPU being sold for $350. Full stop no debating.
