Why not both?
I don't think Sony just acquired them to become a PC port machine. I'm sure the studio have talents that can do a lot more.
I don't have issues with both since Sony do have acquired the whole gotdamn studio lol and Sony would want to have Nixxes help with their support for Sony's own 1st parties. I just hope Sony don't pull them away from what they do best and that is Port games whether its PC or PS5 or PS4..

If they are only capable of doing PC ports, I really don't see the point of this acquisition tbh.
They are capable of very good console ports too. But they'll be intergrated into the tech group, who work with all first party, we can speculate on why. They haven't been bought to port all the potential games to PC, that'd just be a massive bottleneck.

I do remember there was a period of time when ports were announced and people would wish it was Nixxes and would get mad when it wasn't Nixxes.

They are very strong technically. They will be a big support studio more than helping for PC port.

Like they said in the release press. They aren't only a port machine.

IMO, their main tasks will be to do these 'impossible' ports to PS4, like HFW and GoW:R. They have proven really good at that.

Btw, a little known fact is that Nixxes got that name from their founder Jurjen Katsman who went by nickname "Nix" on the demoscene. He was one of the developers of a few legendaty "The Black Lotus" demos in the late 90s, like "Stash" and "Countour":

I bet these guys won't just help make PC ports better.

They'll be an outsource team for every AAAA project in the pipeline within SIE.

By early next year, I bet they're all jamming on TLoU Remake, Ragnarok and Forbidden West (unless it truly does drop this year).

It seems like they’re making their own game instead. If Sony does a PC centric strategy then it’s better for Sony Devs to just work simultaneously with a pc and Ps5 port then having one studio port all their game lol.

This makes me sad. Nixxes were doing some really great PC ports of Square Enix games. Now, probably not so much.

Any idea if Nixxes will do PC ports for Sony only, or if they will still be doing contract work for Square Enix?

It’s extremely unlikely that Sony purchased this studio with the plan of then continuing to port games for other publishers.

To be fair, their support studios do actualy support AAA games from other publishers, they work more as support that the primarily studio so it is still possible that the studio will continue to work with SE

Sony acquiring one of the best PC porting houses around can only mean one thing.

It's finally coming to PC.

Those should've been immediately ported after Horizon.

Reading this gave me the real context for their purpose within SIE. They want stuff like HFW out this year, and probably want GoW/GT7 out soon after that.

This will allow them to get those games out a lot quicker

yep they're a good group to have around when trying to make up for lost time. like Hermen said, they helped get Killzone ready for launch on PS4 and they're probably doing the same thing right now for GG on Horizon

The point being to work on PC ports, presumably.

Yeah, although Nixxes has worked on a few PlayStation projects in the past, I think it's safe to assume the acquisition is primarily about bolstering PC port efforts with a hitherto third-party studio that has a long history of delivering solid PC versions, as not every first-party studio is going to have the spare resources to properly commit to such projects and the partnership with Virtuous for HZD didn't exactly work out well.

Seems like a smart move to be honest. A dedicated studio to take care of or at least significantly help in making last gen ports gives teams more time to focus on the PS5 versions. May mean they make less compromises with the current gen versions if there's less worry about downscaling.

I guess they'll also sort PC ports as well and generally just help on the technical side of games if needed.

Hope this has less to do with porting and more to do with them getting to work on their own original title.

It's already stated in the PR that they're a support studio. This is gonna be like VASG or Malaysia. We're not gonna hear much about what Nixxes is doing. They'll be helping other studios get their games out the door and providing expertise for PC ports most likely.

Yeah, I think people are caught up on the idea of ports, which I’m sure will be part of the plan but this feels more like a special task force to get games out the door
