Sony recently uploaded the extended video doc for the Destiny 2 Forsaken expansion, but there was something different about the video. The version on the PlayStation YouTube channel features one slight difference from the one that Activision had initially sent out. As spotted by some eagle-eyed viewers, the Xbox One controller that a developer uses during the video is blurred out in Sony's upload.

The blurred Xbox controller can be seen at 2:42 of the Destiny 2 video doc. It makes sense that Sony wouldn't want to give a spotlight to Microsoft's console, especially since they have a deal with publisher Activision in place for exclusive content. However, if they just kept the controller intact then most people wouldn't have noticed it and there wouldn't be dozens of forum threads and articles on it.

This isn't the first time that Sony has engaged in this console war silliness and has edited trailers. They famously replaced button prompts from the E3 2017 Anthem footage, which was shown on Xbox One, to make it look as if it was being played on a PlayStation 4. The company had to even pull the footage after they got called out for it. At least this time they're not doing anything that would be in the realm of misleading marketing

Ha! Though in seriousness, could they actually have legal issues if they show a Microsoft product without permission, because that might make more sense than just being petty.

You mean like how TV/Reality shows blur our product logos?

For a place called 'SCREENRANT', you wold think that conclusion would be drawn first, over 'console war' bullshit.

doubt it
microsoft had a plenty of switches appearing in their minecraft promos recently. of course if you showed phil spencer taking a piss on a switch it would be a different issue, but a guy holding a controller? most likely sony didnt wanted to show it, and they have no reason to do so anyway

So Bungie would rather play on X?

Kinda embarrassing.

Like when you see celebrities with Pepsi deals drinking Coke.

On the PC, lol.

It is because MS sells a game on the Switch, the one you just mentioned, lol. They have a licensing right to show it due to that.

I don't see an issue.

Game is developed and can be run on PCs, and there xbox gamepads are quite popular.

It's an Xbox 360 controller. You even acknowledge this and you put Xbox one in the title.

In any event, who cares?

That's just silly.

I use an Xbox One controller on PC. Would certainly be the easiest controller to use if you wanted to test something with a controller while developing on PC. (That or a 360 controller. Edit: Which that's what this is.)

So Bungie would rather play on X?

No biggie, just kinda embarrassing.

Hopefully this is just bait, because if not... Kinda embarrassing.

United States
Similar thing happened when one of Nintendo's shows entered a Gamestop and blurred the other console branding. I don't really think it's that significant.

It's a legal thing, just like how news anchors hide the logos of their laptops unless they are sponsored

Company doesn't want to advertise a competitor product? Shocking.

It's been done for years. For example, here is the 'Making Of' special feature for Batman Begins on Xbox with the PS2 controller blurred out.

Well its not the first time like the article said. They did the same thing with Anthem last year with the buttons. And they removed it.

And? Does not mean it is 'fan war' bullshit.

Not wanting to give a competitor free advertising has nothing to do with 'fan warz yo'.

That's perfectly normal. Why would you want to advertise a competitor's product in your video?
