Lack of dual-shock controller kind of gives me hope that this will at least have a good chance of being one of the unannounced games:

The game looks cool.

Shame PD never came back to iterate on this.

I won't buy it. I want to buy it but I won't, just like the nes and snes classics, it'd just be a paper weight and I have no space to display it... but I want it.

Will need to see it before judging. No dual Shock is a real disappointment. Maybe those will be sold separately (with multi tap), or better, make the console compatible with Dual Shock 4.

I wonder how it will it handle disc swaps, memory cards and loading screens/times.

PS1 is a really painful experience to go back to now.

And holy shit, do those games look bad.

What are the chances of it being updateable with more games and them releasing a Dual Shock for it? Would be really cool but even if not, this is looking awesome.

So far we've got Final Fantasy 7, Jumping Flash, R4: Ridge Racer Type 4, Tekken 3 and Wild Arms. Pretty good first burst of games, some big RPG classics, the marquee stuff everyone remembers, a cult classic. I'll guess that we're also getting Twisted Metal, one of the Crash games, maybe PaRappa and Soul Reaver.
Twisted Metal 2 or 3 is an absolute necessity. I hope this can hook up with a DS4 wirelessly so I don't need to get a recreated multitap.

If you got that from Webhallen, then they say quite clearly it's a temporary price. I don't expect the same price bullshit to happen again as it did with SNES Mini.

From Spel & Sånt, they always tell it's a temporary price if it is - they dont this time.

Sadly this likely means it's that price, and since this seems to be quite limited in comparison with the SNES mini I dont think we will see a price drop like with the SNES.

Huh. I guess it shouldn't be that unexpected Sony would follow Nintendo into this market after all the money they made but this is like literally applying the Classic Mini design verbatim to a Playstation, no original spin or anything.

FF7 is the only thing I'd play so far, why didn't they release the whole lineup?

Ok lots of these games are pretty trash by today's standards. Wild Arms was a drag at release (outside dat intro). But there are tons of awesome 2d based games on PS that would be fantastic by modern standards. So many RPGs...

I'm sure it's been asked but this shit is 47 pages and I'm at work:

Does it feature any sort of...emulator-ish options like optional upscalers or anything?

PS1 is my favorite gaming era all together but these games benefit so much from emulation even for me that this is a no-go if no.

The Dualshock is the most iconic thing about Playstation and the exclusion of it, when they are celebrating their legacy, is the dumbest move.

It's strange. The PSX is my most nostalgic console, and yet I don't really have any desire to own this. For one thing, it was almost entirely a JRPG machine for me, and I doubt this will contain more than four or five of those max. I didn't play many of the games this will likely contain, but I'm not sure I want to play any of the currently-listed games (sans FFVII of course, but I own it on PS3 and PS4 already).

I don't know. Between that and the lack of DualShock controllers I'm really not that interested. But I'll keep an eye on the upcoming game announcements. Maybe I'll feel differently by December.

Put Loaded on the system, that game was amazing.
I expect it to sell it due to nostalgia x scalpers but I'm hyped

Virtual discs means I bet we'll get Capcom collections, Konami, etc
I wish :P

The more I think about it, the less interest I have in personally owning/playing consoles like this. But... I kind of love them as an idea for my kids when the wife and I get there. I'll probably buy this just for that purpose.

How many of yall complaining about no analog sticks actually owned a Playstation? There were only like a couple dozen games that even supported it at all, and out of those, maybe a few that used the right stick. The cost that those things would add to these controllers for extremely limited use makes it totally unsurprising that they'd be left off.

Games I would like...

Jet Moto, Twisted Metal 2, Destruction Derby 2, Ico

Seems to me (at least my tastes), that Nintendo is the only company making FUN announcements so this is cool.

When I initially saw the news headline for this I was really excited! I think my SNES mini classic is great, even though I don't play it as much as I initially thought I would.

But, as I read the details, that excitement began to wane a bit, it seems many of the issues I have with the SNES mini are being repeated on this. As we've seen on some classic collections of games, I feel like there's some opportunities to make minor improvements - it'd be great if it came with wireless controllers, and offer compatability with DS3/4. And while this hardware looks great, just like the Nintendo products, more than anything I want to play these classic games collections on the modern platforms I currently own.

Well, details are still sparse, so we'll see how it turns out as we get closer to release. I still think it's fun Sony is doing this, even though I have some reservations.

A few observations:

- First off, this is cool, albeit unsurprising. With the success of S/NES classics, and Sega working on their own version of it, it was only a matter of time before Sony joined the race.
- Holy shit at the incredibly infantile console/brand-warring going on in this thread. Embarrassing stuff. This makes us no better than those salty ass responses to Sony's tweet.
- The Tekken 3 situation is interesting. Not sure how much the Gon licensing issue prevented it from getting into the PSN PS1 Classics line before, but clearly Sony/Bamco thought it was worth chasing now. In any case, glad the best PS1 Tekken (by quite a margin, too) got in.
- The PS1's library is incredibly rich, so no matter what the selection is, a good number of enthusiasts will likely be disappointed.
- The complaints about DualShock are overblown. Even as a big Sony/PlayStation fan, I've always thought the analogs in the DualShock were not great until the DS4. So, my general response to no DualShock is "and nothing of value was lost"

Give me a Square collection and I might consider it: FFVII to IX and Tactics, Xenogears, Legend of Mana, Chrono Cross, Vagrant Story (I don't care about Parasite Eve tho).

I owned one and loved it. And I loved how DualShock worked with FFVIII, FFIX and MGS1. It would be difficult for me to go back to any of those three games without it.

Is this..."classic"...tho?...

To me "classic" implies a sense of timelessness...as in years later it's still great.

Doesn't really apply here IMO.

This is a straight up lie. Pretty much all games and especially racing games from 1998 on supported sticks. Crash Bandicoot from the 2nd onwards, Spyro, like I mentioned pretty much every racing game and some shooters too.

I hadn't even touched an analog stick till the first PS2 game that required it, but it's not remotely surprising that people would want them, since everyone and their dog has become used to using sticks to move in 3D space.
