they got metal gear! resident evil, rayman etc are pretty good. missing crash, spyro, symphony of the night though are egregious absentees in the age of digital rereleases and remakes

The original Persona is a historically significant game, and DAMN expensive thanks to P3, so it's an interesting choice.
Pretty great selection of PS classics, honestly, at least early era. I'd expect later updates to include later FFs, later WAs, and some Deception love.

RE2, Crash and Spyro missing are not surprising considering the remakes.

I think it's got the problem of Nintendo's classic systems in that they keep including the first game in the series over their superior sequels. Who's asking for Persona 1 over Persona 2? Or Twisted Metal 1 over Twisted Metal 2?

That's a great list. To be frank though, it's hard to focus in on 20 titles-only and to please all PS fans. There were tons of great new franchises started on the system.
Grand Theft Auto is a very nice addition, especially since it first blew up with GTA3 on PS2.

The only not-great title there is Rainbow Six which had an underwhelming port (even by near millennium PC -> PS1 port standards).

Eh? Idk I like the idea, but this list priced at $100 has me probably passing.
I liked the OG NES Classic at $60. The slow price creep on these things (I'm aware of extra controllers bundled in) has me scrutinizing the game list more and more.
