Looking at their movies list, I will say good luck.
Because that is abismal. And the only strong IPs they have there, they don't even own it.

Jumanji
Bad Boys
Ghostbuster
(this is what they own)

Only good thing they have it going is Sony Animation, and they don't own Miles
They also have the rights (unless they've lost them recently) to the Men in Black franchise. I've always thought a Men in Black x Ghostbusters project would be fun. It makes more sense than the 21/22 Jump Street x Men in Black project that was actually in the works (SPE also owns the 21/22 Jump Street movies).

Whenever big PlayStation news happens I honestly wait for Mystic to drop a video talking about it because it helps give me a clearer picture of what's going on in a more broad context. It's a shame he's not getting enough views to sustain the bigger video projects like the Concord interview he conducted earlier last week.

I really liked that Concord interview video. It was just "hey this thing happened and I talked with someone in the middle of it". There wasn't really any editorializing beyond that.

Some of his biggest videos are "I ordered a random lot of games from eBay" so I think the YouTube algorithm just sucks.

I can't imagine the reactions if Horizon Zero Dawn is announced for Switch 2 on next week's Nintendo Direct 😅

Otherwise, it's true that from a business perspective, PlayStation has never been doing so well. The fact that it has started porting its games to other platforms, and that the near-disaster of the GAAS initiative wich has clearly impacted their releases of games this generation. None of this has had any negative impact on the success of the PS5.

Now we'll have to see if this will have a longer-term impact with the PS6 but it could very well also be a huge success, even if PlayStation currently lacks the popularity it had at the end of the previous generation.

The thing is how are people even judging the popularity of PS compare to last gen .
Coming into this gen you would not think PS4 sold near 118 million with the amount nonsense you were reading online .
People is forget fast but war chest unlock for MS , got to follow GP , Sony don't how market stuff etc etc was said before this gen started .

With the usual September show coming up I wonder if we're going to see PS continue their 1 new PSS game announcement or if we'll see more. They seem to have at least three potential games in the chamber ready to reveal with Cory's game, 2D GoW, and the Horizon online game. Maybe Firesprite's horror game as well.

I don't really care about GAAS on all platforms, they are community games and need as many players online as possible so I hope that's it

One of the few options is Gran Turismo 8; yes, I've said several times that I expect it to be a launch PS6 title, but I don't completely rule out a (late) 2026 PS5 release for it. Similar situation as Yotei.
I don't think Until Dawn 2 or Horizon Online have the pull for a last reveal. Saros was even more niche than those, but it at least had the virtue of being a completely new IP. 2D God of War is more likely, but I personally don't see it. Maybe Media Molecule's new IP if it looks exciting enough and is releasing in early 2026.

Yes like you said people also over react about this kind of stuff even if there are also criticisms that are valid.

I really don't see why the game of Firesprite or Horizon Online could not be the last announcement of a SoP, these are still AAA games where we know that the God of War spin-off is a small AA project.

I'm not saying they'll be announced in the next SoP, but it wouldn't surprise me if they were games that would be used as the last announcement in an SoP, and it's not like they have a lot of opportunity left for new announcements from their studios even if XDev can also help.

Media Molecule is a good candidate, but I'm not sure if they're at the point where they can announce their next project.

Because they would be taking space for something that a re-reveal of Wolverine, or another heavy hitter, could use. Actual new (Physint, Astro Bot, Saros, Fighting Souls) or major (GoY) stuff gets priority, the rest can just get announced earlier on the same SoP.

Also, I don't exactly think Firesprite's next project is a major AAA game, it's probably closer to Saros if anything. At least that GoW title would bring new stuff to the table even if it's part of a established franchise.

Playstation Handheld ("Vita 2")

-Custom AMD APU, currently in the High Level Design Phase (At least 2 years out, and technically not greenlit for launch yet)

* Develepors I speak with state that is is plausible the "Vita 2" could utilize 18 CUs to maintain native BWC w/ all PS4 Digital Titles, and then for PS5 games a "Pro-like Patch" could be applied after a bit of work and testing from participating devs.

*Because of the PS5's variable clock speeds, it's also plausible the GPU could run at 1.8GHz or solwer too. To be clear, this wouldn't work for all games, it would require per-game testing & patches, and games would run at much lower resolutions.

*It has alternatively been suggested to me that the "Vita 2" is in fact a "Playstation 6 Family" handheld meant to launch many years from now with the next generation PS6 as weaker (but portable) alternative for the Japanese market.

*To be clear - what I can 100% confirm is that there is a new Playstation Handheld in early development, and that AMD has already gotten the contract for the Playstation 6. The exact specs and details of the PS6 and "Vita2" are speculation by me.
It's kinda scary how MLID first reported on this all the way back to February 2024, and he seemingly got right the PS4 BC and PS5 games getting patched for it (worth mentioning that he also was the first person to report on the now-confirmed low power mode) things. He's probably onto something with this particularly targeting the Japanese market as a more appealing choice for the PS6 generation.

With MS not really in the race any more Sony has a lot of room to try out stuff .
I would really like book or vid or something like that with insight of how these execs were thinking and reacting .
Maybe one day when some of these guys retired we get info on how things were behind the curtain for both MS and Sony during this gen.

Same. Waiting for that Jason Schrier(?) tell-all book on this gen of Microsoft and all their pivots. And Sony in these quiet years of communication and GaaS effort.

I'm actually feeling pretty good about the next SoP, the last one was one of my favourite events in years and the one before it was decent enough, it's a first that I actually feel excited about one of those things lol

People getting really carried away with that job listing lol
like that one poster said people seem to jump to conclusions which is funny because I was listening on the podcast someone made the point well they already got games on Xbox so you've got to mention every platform you have games no matter how small they are people just overreact to every small thing

I think our perception of generations has got to change, I think the last big generational leap we're gonna get is Switch 1 > Switch 2, the tech as it exists right now is strong enough to handle most games.

So I don't mind a PS6 in 2027 too much, it doesn't matter much because the PS5 is still going to get tons of support for years and years after that.

yeah, after the switch 2 launch i also think that they could possibly do things like Nintendo, the chip leakers are basing their predictions from past experiences and while these predictions are the most probable ones we don't know what sony is thinking and also how will the market condition be.

Chips leakers saying PS6 is fall 2027

ND going to have another game to end the console generation

By the it goes, Sony only had two studios that released more than 2 new games this generation: Insomniac and San Diego (that does pretty much the same game every year).

I think our perception of generations has got to change, I think the last big generational leap we're gonna get is Switch 1 > Switch 2, the tech as it exists right now is strong enough to handle most games.

Well, if the leap won't be that big, then there's no real reason to release a new piece of hardware.

I don't think there is any world in which holding back on a PS6 alleviates this "problem"

It's just the way it is, the PS5 is gonna be as viable 7 years from now as it is today.

Me too.
Feels this one barely started
That would make a seven-year cycle, which would be quite logical but I agree with you, there really is this impression for the first time that the current generation has barely started and it seems crazy to already be talking about the next one.
It probably comes from the fact that development times have become so long that we have the impression of always being at the beginning of the generation when we compare it to that of the PS3 360 where you had studios that could release three or four games on the same generation now it is one or at most two.
Well, if the leap won't be that big, then there's no real reason to release a new piece of hardware.
If the next generation can truly democratize ray tracing on consoles, the visual gap will likely be more noticeable than the one in this generation.

The focus of the next generation will be on RT and ML.

I think there is almost no shot PS6 is 2027, but remember just because PS6 starts, it definitely doesn't mean the end of PS5. PS5 will almost surely go on even longer than PS4 has been currently.

With performance being so crucial now, I'm okay with graphics not getting a massive leap. After all, the Cell Processor is still kicking our ass 20 years later & that was biggest swing Sony took. Just give the devs great tools & they'll give us great games.
