The last few years have seen the rise of crowdsharing platforms like Kickstarter, Indiegogo & fig, as well as the rising influence of digital distribution, which combined has led to a resurgence in both the number and quality of P&C games, as it's now easier to fund, and cheaper to distribute in a niche market where targeting fans of the genre is very important. Additionally, 2016 saw a substantial amount of work done to the very popular Adventure Game Studio engine which will hopefully see this trend continue.

If there's games you think look cool that I've missed, please post below and quote me (so I don't miss the message) or PM me, and I'll add it to the upcoming games list. Just give me the name of the game and dev, and I'll find the art/description etc.

Anything in italic is my own opinion.

Thimbleweed Park
In a town like Thimbleweed Park a dead body is the least of your problems.

Lost along a dusty stretch of highway, this proud town once boasted an opulent hotel, a vibrant business district, and the state's largest pillow factory, but now stinks of a desperate longing to be what it once was.

A body has been found in the river, bloated and pixelated from the decay of a death come too soon. Agents Ray and Reyes arrive and are immediately suspicious of each other's intentions, then a couple of pigeons show up and start talking about the signals and it only gets weirder from there.

A cursed clown, a bitter heiress, and the ghost of pillow salesmen join the story and add their own complications.

Play and switch between all five characters as you explore the vast, strange, and manipulative world of Thimbleweed Park while unraveling a dark and humorous neo-noir mystery.

Solve puzzles dreamed up by the brains of Ron Gilbert and Gary Winnick, creators of the original point & click adventure game, Maniac Mansion.

Released in early 2017 to Windows, Mac, Xbox One, and Linux. Was later released to iOS, Android, Switch & PS4.

In what is probably the most anticipated P&C game of the year, Ron Gilbert, David Fox, Gary Winnick & Mark Ferrari reunite to make a classic lucasfilm style P&C game in a Twin Peaks vein. Was supposed to be released last year, but ended up being delayed to early 2017.

Syberia 3
After abandoning the island, Kate Walker finds herself adrift on a makeshift boat, rescued by the Youkol people. Determined to escape their common enemies, she decides to help the nomads fulfill their odd ancestral tradition, as they accompany their snow ostriches on their seasonal migration.

The St. Christopher's School Lockdown
The prestigious St. Christopher's private school has been seized by its student body. Roughly two hundred teenagers (and even a few primary schoolers), led by the charismatic and headstrong Roger Spencer, have taken their own campus by storm, staging a lock-in protest against severe new financial rulings. Barricaded within the building and facing pressure from the police, the government and the media, the young St. Christopher's crusaders are going to find out how quickly things can go from bad to worse…

Full Throttle Remastered
One minute you're on the road, riding. Then some guy in a suit comes along, says he's got a deal for you and your gang. But when you come to, you've got a lump on your head, the law on your back, and a feeling in your gut that the road you're on is about to get a lot rougher… Beat up, busted, mad. Ben's been double-crossed before. But this time they messed with his gang, they trashed his bike, and they're about to come back for more. What they're all gonna get is up to you.

A remake of Tim Schafer's short but sweet '95 classic by the man himself.

Milkmaid of the Milky Way
Milkmaid of the Milky Way is a classic puzzle adventure game where you play Ruth, a young woman living alone on a remote farm in a faraway fjord in 1920's Norway.

Life is hard, work is tough, and Ruth wonders; Is this the life I want?

Then one day a huge spaceship arrives, turning her world upside-down.

Milkmaid is a game with a heartfelt story of a young woman breaking free and finding her own place in the universe, all wrapped up in lovely 90s style handcrafted graphics.

CAYNE
CAYNE is an isometric, point-and-click adventure video game in development by THE BROTHERHOOD. Mom-to-be, Hadley, has woken up to the horrors of a medical facility. Taking control, the player explores and interacts with the environment, uses and combines items that are found to progress deeper into the world. CAYNE is set in the STASIS universe and sets out to tell an original story in the STASIS series.

The Wardrobe
The Wardrobe is a visually-rich 2D point and click adventure game inspired by the great '90s classics such as 'Monkey Island', 'Day of the Tentacle', 'Sam & Max: Hit the Road' and 'Tony Tough'. The game has a strong sense of humour, but isn't shy about dealing with mature and non-politically correct themes.
- More than 40 hand-illustrated and digitally colored locations, enriched by dozens of nerd quotes.
- Tons of clever puzzles and inventory objects to collect!
- Play as Skinny, a teen-skeleton with an impertinent attitude and a sparkling wit, willing to do anything to save his best friend's soul from eternal damnation!

Paradigm
Paradigm is a surreal point-and-click adventure game set in the strange and post apocalyptic world of Krusz; a land inspired by a mix of Eastern Europe and the 70's and 80's.
You play as the unattractive yet over-confident mutated Paradigm; who must prevail through inconvenient trials to overcome the insecure yet tyrannical sloth antagonist, Olof!

Herald - Book 1 & 2
Herald is a choice-driven adventure game set during an alternate 19th century in which the West is united as a colonial superpower: the Protectorate.
Help tell the story of Devan Rensburg, a man of mixed heritage who became steward on board of the HLV Herald, a merchant ship set for his country of birth.
As Devan it is your job to keep the peace among the crew and passengers by resolving their daily squabbles. Set during a time of widespread inequality and injustice, you are challenged to uncover a great mystery that surrounds the Herald's perilous voyage.

Herald will be released in four 'books'. The base game, consisting of Book I & II will have around 4 hours of gameplay and is scheduled to release Q1 2017, and this was acheived. Book III & IV are already in pre-production and will be released as purchasable DLC for the base game at a later date. Together, the four books tell the entire story of Devan's journey on board the Herald.

Tokyo Dark

Tokyo Dark is a sidescrolling point and click mystery adventure game for Windows and Mac.

As Detective Itō you'll explore Tokyo - following leads, collecting clues, and making difficult decisions with far-reaching consequences.

Tokyo Dark features a huge number of dialogue choices and interactions that affect character attributes and change the outcome of the story. Unlike a visual novel, you'll control Detective Itō directly as you explore Tokyo, trying to balance your professional duty, personal life, and sanity.

Legend of Hand
A quirky point and click adventure game with RPG elements set in a Far-East inspired world! Influenced by adventure classics and martial arts beat 'em up games of the 80's and 90's.

Memoranda
Memoranda is a 2D point & click adventure game for PC, Mac and Linux. It has more than 40 scenes, 30 characters and lots of puzzles like all famous classic point and click adventure games. The game script is inspired by Haruki Murakami's short stories and elements of about 30 stories are used to make the storyline more interesting. If someone is familiar with Murakami's world he can guess that the game has a magical realism theme and he'd face some strange incidents. For example you'll meet a dead but moving soldier from WWII or an elephant hiding in a cottage and looking forward to turning into a human being. Most of the characters have something in common and that's about Losing! Someone lost his mind and someone has just lost a sack of magical tobacco!

Agatha Knife
Agatha suffers from insomnia, enjoys eating meat, loves animals, and works in the abattoir of her mother's butcher. Having to kill the animals you love in order to eat their meat is somewhat complicated, right? Agatha thinks so as she faces this dilemma every day. She needs to find a solution so she can make her animals happy while they surrender with no fear to the adorable little butcher and her sharp knives and saws. And religion is the answer.

The Inner World - The Last Wind Monk
Solve mind-bending puzzles in a world full of mystery and save the family of the flute-noses!
The flute nose dynasty has been watching over Asposia for centuries on end. In secret, they fill the roly-poly world with light and life. Emil, a trader for odds and ends, has led all the Asposians astray, making them believe that the dynasty is in cahoots with dark forces. Seriously, who knows what this weird family is doing day in, day out? The only one who could stop evil Emil is the heir to the flute nose throne: Robert. He has been petrified for three years, though. With a huge dose of enthusiasm, but little to no idea what he's actually doing, he embarks on an adventure to find the legendary last wind monk. Of course, he has some great company: Peck, as loyal as he is flightless, and Laura, a rebel who certainly does fly, but only off the handle and who is Robert's love with a capital L, by the way. A final ray of hope is provided by the mysterious Mama Dola, who seems to know more about Robert's destiny than Robert himself…

Detention
Greenwood high school, located in a remote mountainous area, two students found themselves trapped and vulnerable. The place they once knew has changed in unsettling ways, haunted by evil creatures. To escape, they must explore the mysterious campus filled with ominous objects and puzzles. How will they survive in this ever threatening environment? Could they return to safety in one piece?

Set in a fictitious world in the 1960s Taiwan under martial law, Detention, the story-driven atmospheric horror incorporated East Asian elements rarely used in games. Taoism, Buddhism, Chinese mythology, the game draws on local Taiwanese cultural references to tell an unique and terrifying story.

In this 2D atmospheric horror side-scroller, players navigate the main characters in a classic point and click fashion to explore a high school where evil encroaches. While hiding from the rampaging monsters, you are to find items to interact with in the otherworldly rooms. And as more mysteries unveiled, the dark past of a cursed school will finally surface.

Anything in italic is my own opinion.

Unavowed
For six months, you were possessed by a demon. For six months, you unwillingly tore a trail of bloodshed through New York City. Now, finally, you are rescued by the Unavowed – an ancient society dedicated to stopping evil.

You are free, but your world is in tatters. You have no home, no friends, and you are wanted by the police. You can not return to your old life, but perhaps you can start a new one. Join the Unavowed, and learn to fight against the oncoming darkness.

Features:

Choose a male or female protagonist
Choose one of three playable origin stories
Branching storyline
A total of five companion characters to choose from. Each with their own talents and abilities.
Double the resolution of a typical Wadjet Eye Game!
All the usual guff – voice acting, commentary, original music, etc

By Dave Gilbert of Blackwell fame. This will be one he develops totally himself(he also publishes others P&C games via Wadjeteye). Seems to be going for maniac mansion meets bioware (the former in terms of teams with different puzzles, the latter in terms of dialogue - and character gender choice), which should be interesting - there will be romance options if he is able to write them well. Looking like 2018 at this point. He has an interesting talk on the game here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JvU3Lk9WE5I

Tex Murphy : The Poisoned Pawn
This was originally meant to be a fan-made, dev-aided update of Overseer, but there have now been big changes:

-The Poisoned Pawn is the official sequel / successor to Tesla Effect.
-The Poisoned Pawn is Act 1 of the final chapter in the Tex Murphy Adventure series.

There's talk of flashbacks to overseer, so I assume none of their early work will be wasted. Engine is looking nice:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qLwljxGF1yU

The blurb is now:

In this cyberpunk, film noir, dystopian sci-fi adventure, you play as Tex Murphy, a typical 1940's gumshoe detective. Except, it's the 2050's. A post apocalyptic world has risen from the ashes of World War III and stands divided. New San Francisco sits atop the rubble of the old city. It's a city of glitz and glamour hiding a sinister undertone: a population segregated between those immune to the nuclear fallout (Norms) and those less fortunate (Mutants). Just outside the new city lies Old San Francisco, a vastly ignored reminder of a dark past, and home to the mutant population, and Tex himself.

In this latest adventure, the year is 2050. Shortly after the events of Tesla Effect (the 2014 adventure title) Tex Murphy (Chris Jones), with the guidance of St. Germaine (Jason Tatom), must revisit some of his most gripping cases in order to decipher his true past, and prepare him for an uncertain future.

A Night at Camp Ravenwood
Camp Ravenwood is a dangerous, dirty camp for delinquents, owned by vampires, and run by Switchblade and his cruel and unusual biker gang. By day, the campers are left to activities such as fishing, football, and swimming, but by night, the camp becomes a place where death is around every corner. A headless maniac with an axe stalks the camp, there are aliens and monsters lurking in the woods, and jocks and bikers riding around waiting for any chance they can get to beat you to a pulp. Enter Smoky Bumblerose, Germy Bumblerose, Benny Berkybile, Clancy Swindler, and Franky Flynnigan, five ex-scouts accused of starting forest fires. They must use all of their wits to survive A Night at Camp Ravenwood, but just when things become too dire, help comes in the form of a mysterious witch named Barbara and a troupe of Girl Scouts led by one pissed-off mother.

A P&C with a pretty recognisable style. The developer has captured the Monkey Island Purcell/Ferarri look & vibe pretty well. This is some years late now, so hopefully 2017 will finally be the year it releases.

Kinky Island
Joey Cormack is having trouble meeting the right girl, but one strange night will leave him on a beautiful tropical island filled to the brim with hot chicks! Help him discover the secret of Kinky Island and put all he's learned to good use. That is, if he can stop getting distracted and quit daydreaming for any length of time… (probably not!)

Bolt Riley: A Reggae Adventure
You play as Bolt Riley, a poor boy from Trenchtown, Jamaica, who is struggling to survive and has to deal with a gang of Rude Boys. Through a journey of self discovery, of love, friendship, and inspiration, you are introduced to Reggae music, form your band, get inspiration, write and produce your songs and even perform them. The story consists of different chapters each focusing on a different aspect of Bolt Riley's passage into becoming a Reggae legend. This is the true story of the underdog who breaks out and becomes a worldwide sensation.

Part one is already available on steam early access, but there hasn't been any news on the rest in a while.

Jenny LeClue
Jenny LeClue is a handcrafted adventure with awesome gameplay, memorable characters, and a unique aesthetic. It's also a coming-of-age story about the blurred lines between right and wrong.
This is a game about your choices and how they affect Jenny and the author's story. It's a rich metanarrative with delightful surprises and interactions. Jenny LeClue also explores mature themes, complex characters, and an epic tangled mystery.
You play as Jenny, a brilliant young detective, living in the idyllic college town of Arthurton. Jenny is a sharp-eyed, relentless pursuer of the truth. But nothing exciting happens in Arthurton, and Jenny longs for real adventure.

Hero-U: Rogue to Redemption
Rogue to Redemption is the story of Shawn O'Conner, a young man living on the streets of Sardonia. On one fateful night, he is given the chance to make a new future for himself – or die trying.

The mysterious castle of Hero-University is full of danger, but also filled with opportunity. There are chances to make friends, acquire wealth, and learn the skills that a young rogue needs to succeed.

Shawn can look for romance or search for lost treasure. He can help others or focus upon his own goals. When he learns the truth of his father's death, will he seek the path of vengeance or that of forgiveness?

This year? Maybe? Finally? Bueller?

SpaceVenture
When the spaceport "facilities" are backed up and stuff's about to hit the fan… When someone's darling little spawn tries to flush their pet Narblitz down the john… When your life support ducts are in need of , er…life support… It's time to call in a professional! Who is that professional you might ask? Enter
Ace Hardway, plumber to the stars. An intergalactic Mr. Fix-it armed with his trusty wrench, duct tape, and an impressive 'norge', Ace fearlessly plunges into adventure, rooting-out trouble wherever he smells it. Yeah… unclogging wormholes is a dirty job, but someone has to do it.

Like Hero U, this has had a troubled development. Seems close to done now, so hopefully we'll see this P&C from the developers of Space Quest in 2017.

Dropsy - The Yeti's Curse
A substantial update to the original game (this is not a new game and the update is free for people who own the game). Probably 2018 now realistically. The original was one of my favourite P&C games of 2016.

Blue Volta
Officially now a 2018 game

Blue Volta is a classic point-and-click, third-person graphic adventure. It features extraordinary evocative settings and fully freehand drawn graphics.
The player will take Zeno, The Last Librarian, through a life-changing trip. The quest for an ancient volume will steal Zeno away from the sleepy routine of the Citadel of Knowledge. Along the way, he will confront ancient secrets and explore mysterious places teeming with wondrous creatures and enthralling puzzles seamlessly interlocked with the story.

Nelly Cootalot: Spoonbeaks Ahoy! HD
Nelly Cootalot, fearsome pirate and lover of tiny and adorable creatures, is charged by the spirit of a dead buccaneer to investigate the mysterious disappearance of a fleet of birds known as spoonbeaks. Her adventure will bring her face to face with the nefarious Baron Widebeard as she uncovers corruption and wanton punning in the Barony of Meeth.

This is a developer going back to his original game and sprucing it up for sale, like Dave Gilbert did with The Shivah. You can get the original AGS version here free if you want to see if it's your cup of tea: http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/site/games/game/860/

The Tale of Doris and the Dragon
The Tale of Doris and the Dragon is an episodic, point-and-click adventure game series featuring an elderly lady named Doris who finds herself in Purgatory after passing away on earth.
Episode 1 is already available. Devs think the rest will probably slip into 2018.

Twelve Minutes
What is Twelve Minutes?
ME: "You know Groundhog day?"
YOU: "Yes."
ME: "Ok, so it's the same idea."
ME: "You come home from work and have dinner with your wife. A cop shows up, beats you up and you pass out."
ME: "You then wake up at the start of the same evening."
ME: "You now have to use the knowledge of what you know is going to happen, to change the outcome and break the loop."
ME: "The loop lasts twelve minutes. The game is in real-time and everything happens in your apartment."
ME: "Oh, and the game takes about 6 hours to complete…if you are good at puzzle games."
YOU: "So if you last twelve minutes and stop the cop you win the game?"
ME: "Oh no, the cop arrives about four minutes into the loop."
ME: "It's like if Bill Murray was getting killed at breakfast in Groundhog day."
ME: "If he managed to survive he would then realize the loop actually lasts 24 hours and resets no matter what."
YOU: "Oh…I see."
YOU: "So what is the objective? How do I know when I have 'won' the game?"
ME: "The game never tells you what to do."
ME: "There are no clear objectives, the idea is that you do what you believe is the right thing to 'fix' the loop."

Detective Gallo
In the darkness enveloping a city like any other, five exotic plants are the victims of a shocking event. There's no doubt, it's a multiple plant murder.
The city is not particularly shocked by the tragic incident, but a multi-billionaire is willing to pay an outrageous amount of money to solve the mystery.
And who, if not Detective Gallo, can accept the challenge (and the generous advance of his client)? For the most cynical and sarcastic detective there is, a case that starts as a trivial domestic accident will turn out to be the most intricate investigation his cactus (!) has ever seen...

Detective Gallo is a point&click comic-noir adventure that is entirely hand-illustrated and hand-animated, and whose protagonist is a feathered and grumpy private eye struggling with a very tricky case, bizarre characters, and puzzles that will put his insight and patience to the test.

Detective Di: The Silk Rose Murders
Detective Di: The Silk Rose Murders is a point-and-click adventure game set in a world filled with mystery and charm and inspired by the classics of the genre–games like Gabriel Knight, Grim Fandango, and The Longest Journey.
Amid lingering political turmoil, the first and only female empress of China, Wu Zetian rises to power. Within months of her ascension to the throne, murmurs of discontentment and revolution swell as detractors and enemies begin plotting against her. It is against this backdrop that our protagonist, newly appointed investigating magistrate Di Renjie, must solve a gruesome series of murders–which will lead him on a collision course with the Imperial court and the empress herself.

Elsinore
On a summer night, the Danish noblewoman Ophelia awakens from a terrible vision: in four days, everyone in Elsinore Castle will be dead. Even worse, she's been thrown into a time loop from which she cannot escape. Forced to relive the same four days over and over again, Ophelia determines to do everything in her power to change the future.

Elsinore is a time-looping adventure game set in the world of Shakespeare's Hamlet. Elsinore combines strong social simulation elements, a dynamic story that reacts immediately to player decisions, and a world full of diverse characters with secrets to uncover. Can Ophelia prevent the tragedy that lies before her?

Gibbous - A Cthulu Adventure
Gibbous - A Cthulhu Adventure (PC, Mac, Linux) is a comedy point 'n click love letter to classic-era Lucas adventures, HP Lovecraft, Hitchcock and many, many others. A lighthearted spoof of the Cthulhu Mythos, Gibbous will have you controlling 3 protagonists, dealing with strange cultists, ancient voodoo, and Dead Cthulhu himself. Well, "dead" is just a matter of opinion...

Everything revolves around the dreaded Necronomicon and how it affects the protagonists' lives. Grizzled detective Don R. Ketype wants it because he always gets his man (or book); and easy going, easy living librarian Buzz Kerwan stumbles upon it and accidentally transforms his cat, Kitteh, into a talking abomination, thus setting on a quest to return her back to cathood.
Some really top notch artwork here. The way the characters and backgrounds look like they belong together is very impressive and seldom achieved so well in this art style.

Guard Duty
When a teenage apprentice stumbles upon his father's collection of Demonic literature he learns of a long forgotten ancient ritual, a recipe for destruction, death and the promise of immortality. With evil in his eyes and a charcoal dusting underneath, the apprentice embarks on the journey of a lifetime, one reaching far across the depths of time and space.

Take control of the first dynamic duo with a heritage line spanning multiple millennia! Destiny speaks of two men that can stop the young soon-to-be ruler of the world, well, more like one and a half men:
Agent Starborn, time travelling Lieutenant General of the Guardians of New Haven!
...and Tondbert, Night's Watchmen of Wrinklewood, part time drunk and three quarter dwarf.
Gameplay

As you puzzle your way through this unique three act story you will get to do things like: Catapulting across large open spaces, saving a Knight from a giant Sandworm, and even TRAVELING THROUGH TIME AND SPACE.

Lamplight City
The Gateway to Vespuccia, the City of Air and Light, Lamplight City - the thriving port city of New Bretagne is a beacon of progress and industrial advancement in the New World. Yet beneath the promises of a shining 19th-century future, the city rests upon foundations of poverty, class struggle, and crime.

For police detective turned private investigator Miles Fordham, Lamplight City's shadowy corners are just part of the territory. But with his former partner constantly speaking to him from beyond the grave, his grip on sanity is slowly loosening. Can Miles find justice for his clients and track down his partner's killer before his entire world comes apart?

Lamplight City is a detective adventure set in an alternate steampunk-ish "Victorian" past.

Features:
- Five cases to solve, each with multiple potential suspects, false leads, and lasting consequences.
- Single click interface and no inventory (gather clues in your casebook)
- An entire fictional city with four boroughs to explore, each with their own unique flavor.
- Heavily inspired by the works of Edgar Allan Poe and Charles Dickens.
From the chap who made A Golden Wake and Shardlight.

LUNA - The Shadow Dust
Behind the veil of reality, lies an enchanted world. When the world lost its balance, it fell upon a boy to take on an unexpected journey.
Until the moon rises again, the order of the world will not be restored. One can not go back in time to correct his mistake.
Whatever happened is irreversible…or is it?

Together with our main character and his mystery friend, players will experience an unique adventure that requires both courage and determination. Enter the ancient tower that stands at the edge of world, help the character bring back his lost memories and find out the darkest secret beyond the tower itself.

Mage's Initiation: Reign of the Elements
D'Arc is sixteen years old. He has trained extensively in the elemental arts for the past decade of his young life, under the discerning eyes of the Mage Masters of Iginor. Confined to an existence of academics and magical mastery in their towering hall, the inquisitive initiate often wonders what it would be like to set foot outside in the world he has been secluded from; a world that his Masters deeply shun.
Train your mental and magical mindset in the Reading Hall.

As with all young Mage initiates in training, D'Arc's moment of reckoning arrives and he is summoned to the Hallowed Hall, where the four Mage Masters put him to the test. D'Arc is tasked with completing three quests which will test his magical and mental strength to full capacity. He must return to the Mage's Tower bearing a symbol of proof that he has conquered each task: a lock of hair from priestess, the unspoiled shell of griffon's egg, and the horn of a tricorn.

Join D'Arc on a perilous journey across the medieval land of Iginor. Brave the perilous forest where redcap goblins stalk. Trek across a barren and lawless desert wasteland. Navigate over vast bodies of water where evil masquerades as beauty. And ascend beyond the lofty mountain peaks where the mysterious and hostile race of Flyterians dwell. It is time for D'arc to prove himself. Succeed and he shall be initiated as a fully-fledged Mage, gaining the respect of his Masters and peers.
This appears to be a P&C/RPG hybrid in the Quest for Glory style.

Octopus City Blues
The Ghost in a Bottle Zaibatsu is pleased to announce Octopus City Blues, the authentic Octopus City simulation. For people unacquainted with Octopus City simulation genre, the simulation resembles adventure games of yore, immersing players in a fascinating setting filled with unusual characters. We place special emphasis on exploration, replay value and the consequences of choices.

Assume the role of Kaf Kafkaryan, a cowardly middle-aged octopus blood junkie and tentacle trimmer, living in a city built around a giant octopus. Kaf has succumbed to bizarre nightmares about a world populated by twisted creatures. To aid the inhabitants of his dreams, he must explore the underside of the towering metropolis and learn more about the seedy lives of its citizens. Along the way he becomes entangled in a conspiracy with far-reaching implications for Octopus City.
Seems to have combat elements, but it may just be a minigame.

Quest for Infamy: Roehm to Ruin
A prequel to Quest For Infamy, Roehm to Ruin lets us see how the ne'er-do-well Mr. Roehm found himself having to flee the baron's wrath.

Roehm to Ruin follows the story behind Mister Roehm's escape from the Baron's Castle. After hearing of an illustrious gathering of many wealthy and rich individuals at the Baron's castle, Roehm decides to crash the party and try to swindle a few valuables and goodies for himself. Although he ends up getting more than he bargained for.

Starr Mazer
Starr Mazer is a modernized fusion of 2 classic genres: The point-and-click (PNC) adventure and horizontal scrolling shoot 'em up (SHMUP). The game is highly replayable as both the PNC story and SHMUP levels of each playthrough are procedurally generated and significantly different each time. In this regard it is different from traditional PNC Adventures, which were linear in their storytelling and did not yield anything new on subsequent playthroughs.

The narrative progression of each playthrough uses Open-Middled Gameplay (OMG!) in that the story modules kick off predictably and the endings are varied and satisfying, but what happens in between is up to the predetermination of the story creation algorithm as well as the choices the player makes, performance in the SHMUP segments and a host of other environmental / chronological / enigmatic variables.

Though procedural, both the PNC and SHMUP segments of Starr Mazer are highly crafted to provide an engaging, beautiful, exciting and replayable experience. Great care has been put into the modular PNC story engine and SHMUP level assembly.

TSIOQUE
TSIOQUE is a hand-drawn, frame-by-frame animated 2D adventure game.
Escape the clutches of an Evil Wizard and discover the secrets hidden within the spellbound castle of your ancestors.

Amid this apocalyptic disaster, young Harper Pendrell receives a message that leads him on a journey full of mysteries, inexplicable questions, and terrifying revelations. Before he knows it, Harper finds himself in the middle of an adventure which affects the future of the whole human race.

Unforeseen Incidents is a humorous point and click mystery adventure in a beautifully hand-painted 2D world. On his journey, Harper explores plenty of intriguing locations, meets a lot of interesting characters, and unveils some conspiratorial dark secrets behind the ongoing catastrophe that threatens to exterminate all humankind.

Join Harper on his adventure and experience twisted humor, witty dialog, and demanding puzzles in a thrilling new adventure from Backwoods Entertainment and Application Systems Heidelberg.

Whispers of a Machine
A few generations from now, the world has regressed to a pre-industrialisation state. At one point between now and then, mankind opted to discontinue all use of advanced robotics and artificially intelligent computers. The reason was a growing, global concern about the potentially catastrophic emergence of a self-aware, super intelligent AI-entity; the singularity.
This caused a worldwide technological collapse.

We play Vera, a federal homicide detective sent to rural outpost Nordsund, to investigate a string of murders.

Vera will soon discover that the victims and their murderers are factions in a war about technology and religion. While some want to awake the AI-god, seen as a last deity in a godless world, others are vehement technophobes.

Whispers of a Machine will feature handpainted 640x360 graphics, an exciting story with existential twists, and multiple endings.
The writer of this is the same guy who wrote The Samaritan Paradox I believe.

beat thimbleweed park and full throttle remastered earlier this year, and have been meaning to play more adventure games. used to play them a lot, but have only occasionally dabbled in them in recent years.

i enjoyed the blackwell series, so at least looking forward to see how unavowed turns out, although wadjet eye games have always been a bit weak on the actual puzzles. blackwell games and gemini rue could feel more like interactive stories than actual puzzle based games.

anyone played silence? i understand it's a sequel of sorts to the whispered world. that game was beautiful to look at, but overall i found it rather average. i suppose a sequel could improve on it.

Always my favorite thread. I need to find time to play through Thimbleweed and Syberia 3 at some point.

I got today Yesterday Origins (PS4) for cheap; hope it's good.

By the way, Syberia 1 and 2 (PS3) are currently 1.49€ each (90% discount) on PSN. Don't know if this discount is available in all territories, though.

Thank you very much for this thread! I love some Point & Click every now and then when I need some game that does not require a quick use of controller.

Oh trust me it does feel like THAT but once you get to the parts of the game where the Literacy comes into the story things start getting interesting.
I only got one of the endings in the game, this being a VN and all, but continuing feels pretty disturbing for me to go through :P

BTW here are some PnCs that are on KS-

I really should finish Thimbleweed Park. I backed it and was eagerly awaiting the release, but shortly before that a friend convinced me to join him in Final Fantasy 14 and it's been eating up my gaming time ever since.

I've also been working on a fan-adventure-game in the past and started my own prequel to that game (been in the works for years now), I should really continue working on that.

Nice to see this thread again!

The one I'm looking most forward to is probably Twelve Minutes -- wish he could spend a little more time on that one and make some better progress, been hearing about the game for, I don't know, roughly three years?

For anyone thats played it, how's thimbleweed on the Switch?
I loved it, personally. My favorite PnC Adventure in years, and it showed me how perfectly the genre suits the Switch. I played nearly the entire game in handheld mode, alternating between touchscreen actions and button controls depending how I felt at any given time.

Hooray, thread's back! I look forward to being unreasonably critical of the vast majority of modern adventure games all over again!

I figure The Journey Down 3 will be my first adventure game at the new forum unless we're counting Life is Strange: Before the Storm (I wouldn't count it). ..but that comes after the 73883075902 incredible games that just released.

Great, great OP. But one question: Can we put Syberia 3 into a Spoiler? It makes me depressed seeing it again.

i uh -- haven't heard good things about it. i liked 1 and 2. is there anything redemptive about it?
Incredible music from Inon Zur, the visuals are really great at times. But that just makes harder to bear what a shit tier adventure game it is. I wrote something about it on GAF. Let me resurrect it.

I knew going in it wasn't going to be pretty, and man, what a mess it is. It's just everything about this thing feels so baffling. It's clear that a dev team put a lot of care and work in some aspects of this, especially the town of Valsembor at the beginning and the mechanical puzzles, but completely dropped the ball in so many other things. The interface seems to have been designed by aliens, who read about "adventure games" through wikipedia without ever having played on in their lives. It's clearly focused on consoles, but ends up so disfunctional that it was sometimes easier to use the mouse for added precision. At the same time it's not pleasant to play with the mouse either, since so much is designed around analog controls. A total mess. The animations feel really bad, like something out of an early prototype, I mean this stuff makes Andromeda look like a masterpiece in comparison. I'm assuming they hired someone directly from school/university with 0 actual experience.

At the same time, it's hard for me to hate the thing. The music and atmosphere at times is true Syberia. It's just that those moments fall apart so quickly. Pretty much all conversations feel bad, and I couldn't care about any of the new character. And of course the voice acting is stuff that makes Microsoft Sam feel a good substitute.

I have not idea why Benoit Sokal thought bringing "modern" production values in this form was a good idea.
And of course, the icing on the cake is the fact that the game end's on a huge cliffhanger, contributing exactly nothing to ending Kate Walkers personal journey. I mean, did he really think 1) people wouldn't be pissed about this mess of game and 2) after 7 years he had high chances of making another one? What a mess.

Great thread!

Played Thimbleweed Park this year which is the first original P+C I've played to completion since Gemini Rue back in 2013 (supported Broken Age and played, never finished it). Although everyone seems to think the ending is a let down (and it is from a story perspective) the quirky dialogue and puzzle design were like wearing a comfy old pair of shoes again.

Hoping to finally complete Broken Age and give P+C's a shot again in the next year, TP was a great reminder of how captivated I am by the genre when it pushes the right buttons.

I started this last night! It hasn't gotten too weird yet, aside from some of the poems, but I'm sure there are stranger things to come.

Unfortunately I don't think you can reasonably expect any kind of steep sale for Thimbleweed on the eShop. I've never seen anything of the sort on any Nintendo-owned digital storefront.

I do highly recommend it at its current price, however. It's pretty lengthy for a PnC game, and the puzzles are mostly a cut above what we typically get in this genre. The characters and setting are also quite memorable.

Hello all. I used to post at the old site under this username, but I've been gone for awhile and now there's a new site I wanted to try to post more regularly. Since this is my favorite thread, I'm happy to see familiar usernames.

This week I completed two classic adventure games, King's Quest VI and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. Ever since the new King's Quest came out, I've been trying to play through all the old King's Quests. Since VI is supposed to be the best one I thought I would finally like one, but I waasn't so impressed and I guess I will always be more of a LucasArts fan. Also I forgot how much fighting there is Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade if you don't pick the right responses so it did not age as well as I remembered.

I know this year has been pretty great for adventure games, but I'm still a bit bummed that we're not getting a new Wadjeteye game. Just look at this animation in the upcoming Unavowed.

Good to see you here thelongestj! I played through Indy over the summer and yeah, those fights could be tough! I remember enjoying KQ6 when it first came out, I need to go back and replay the series too. Have you played through the new King's Quest already or are you waiting until you replay the old ones first?

Absolutely loving Thimbleweed on Switch, but make no mistake it wasn't really tailored towards gamepad controls. That said, I love having a portable version of the game, and it's made me realize how much I miss playing a good Lucasart's style adventure.

It might win my award for favorite voice acting of 2017.

Thanks Aphotic! I played the first episode of the new series and then decided I wanted to play all the old ones first. I just have VII left (I'm not playing Mask of Eternity) and then I'll go on to the new game.

Id say some of my fav characters in gaming this year are from pncs/adventure games lol
Also Tizoc, I'm curious to hear which characters you enjoyed a lot. I'm guessing that some must have come from Paradigm and Thimbleweed Park?

I think I have Paradigm in my wishlist.
From Thimbleweed Park it's Ransom then BLEEPin Clown

From Darkside Detective, well the main duo are the best bros I've seen in a video game in a long time (McQueen & Dooley), but it also featured Pastor Farrelly. He was only in one chapter but the concept of his character resulted in some hilariously awesome lines.
He is a pastor who talks like a surfer dude and has a glider

Okay, I heard good things, so I will definitely pick it up the next time it goes on sale at GOG.

I was not taken by Ransom as much as I thought I would be, but I understand how lots of people can like him. I did laugh when I made him go mess with the antenna on the radio tower.

There were a lot of funny characters in Paradigm, but I think that The Journey Down was my favorite game of the year, but I played all chapters back to back, which definitely makes it seem better when taken as a whole.

Oh yeah Journey Down also had Pablo. I liked him. Though I'd say many of the characters introduced in Ep. 3 that are allies to Bwana are great.

Here's a write up of Kyrandia 3 & Lilly looking through I made for an upcoming thread. Let me know if there are any things that I got wrong or should add, but be aware I am writing from memory as I beat the game early in January ^^;

6- Legend of Kyrandia Book 3
A77qgv2.jpg

Kyrandia 3 ditches the coloful 2D visuals of the first two games in fa vour of a 3D presentation. The game is played from an overhead view but everything is rendered in 3D.
In Kyrandia 3, you play as Malcolm who was freed from his curse and now he just wants to GFTO Kyrandia and get a fresh start.

Kyrandia 3 is interesting in that there are multiple ways to progress through the game. For example, early in the game when you are trying to find a way to leave Kyrandia, there are multiple methods to accomplish this such as using a portal potion or getting recognized as a circuis performer and let to leave Kyrandia.

I sadly didn't finish the game since it got pretty tedious when I got far into the game, but the switch to the 3D look may not appeal to those that liked the art in the first 2 games, and the solution to some puzzles can seem vague at times making progressing difficult.
One option the game offers is to add a Laugh Track that'll play when Malcolm speaks or a comedic event occurs.

7- Lilly looking through
header.jpg

This is a short PnC Adventure/Puzzle game that I quite enjoyed a lot, it doesn't have much dialog and the game's story is told via cutscenes inbetween screens.
Lilly looking through is a simple enough game that kids can enjoy it as well, as much of the puzzles involves interacting with items and objects on the screen.

The game's plot starts with the titular Lilly finding a red piece of cloth that is fluttering around her village. As she and her brother work together to catch it, the cloth wraps around her brother and whisks him away.
As Lilly travers the neighbouring area outside her village she finds a pair of goggles that she must use in order to clear puzzles in later pars of the game.

The puzzles aren't very difficult and mostly straight forward to solve, and the 2D visuals are pretty clean and nice to look at. If you're having trouble in a screen there is a button that'll highlight all interactable items around you.
The game is also available for iOS and Android and is a pretty short and relaxing game that I strongly recommend playing. Chances are you may have it on your Steam or GOG library so do give it a play!
