Congrats! Which version did you get? I have ended up really enjoying my time with Let's Go Pikachu, last I checked I had over 100 hrs in the game and don't see stopping anytime soon.

I've gone with Pikachu version because it has more of the exclusives I like. I'm kinda disappointed that I miss out on the Bellsprout line though.

I've heard it's pretty relaxed. Which is probably what I need about now - just a quick Pokemon fix before all the big Gen 8 stuff starts moving into gear.

I ended up being surprised at how much I ended up enjoying Let's Go Eevee, ribboned with problems though it is.

I don't at all like what the new mechanics do for the progression and EXP, though.

Something I noticed while listening to the Gen 4 OST, the Gym Leader battle music and the Elite 4 battle music are actually slightly different. I've beaten Platinum countless times but I noticed this just a few minutes ago. The Elite 4 version is very slightly lower in pitch.

Gen 7 is the first gen I've really sunk solid time into since Gen 1, and I'm loving it so far. The news for gen 8 is incredibly exciting, and I've got plenty of ground left to cover in Ultra Moon while I wait. I've always kept up with pokemon as far as battling goes, and played the TCG during XY era, but for whatever reason never really played the games until just recently. Glad I came around to it.

Oops, just realized I missed Zeraora. Guess it goes to show how little attention I'd been paying to this stuff as of late... What's the current best GTS fodder to try to just grab one for the dex? (I don't super mind offering up one of my less replaceable duplicates if I need to, but if that's avoidable, probably best to do things that way.) Guess I'll have to do the same for Melmetal too once Gen 8 rolls around, since I just don't get around enough to do much of anything with Go...

Did these every day in February (and two into March because I forgot how short February is) on Twitter/Tumblr, meant to be *totally real*** previously unreleased Gen 1 Pokemon.

I know this is a long shot but does anyone happen to have an extra Marshadow or Zeraora from previous giveaways? I'm desperate...

I just bought Pokémon cards for the first time in 19 years, lol. I'd love to collect the old ones someday though.

Did you get the new Team Up cards?

I've got some older cards still in really good condietion, I've got a few PSA graded too.
I will have to take some pics and upload them. There's just something about the art I really dig and even though they just sit in a trainer box, I couldn't bring myself to sell them.
They were my youth.

Yeah, some of them are from Team Up! I bought a few booster packs from that one and a few from Celestial Storm. Plus two theme decks — Guardians Rising and Pikachu Power. (As an aside, Pikachu Power is populated almost completely with cards that feature art from Basic. It's wild? Like. There's a holographic chubby Pikachu!)

I ordered a card binder and sleeves off of Amazon and they arrived today. Spent half an hour or so at my table making all my cards all neat and presentable-like. Yeah, this really feels nostalgic.

Take some pics, for sure!

For those who are following the anime, it looks like Sun and Moon might be trailblazers- they're may very well have all of a generation's Pokémon appear within the generation's run of the TV series for the first time ever.

In the past they've tended to leave most of the Mythicals to the movies and not touch them within the TV show, but Sun and Moon has gone out of its way to include them; Magearna's going to be appearing in a few weeks, Marshadow had a totally arbitrary cameo, Zeraora had a brief mini-arc, and they've gone so far as to have Ash catch a Meltan.

This isn't quite official yet- Kartana and Melmetal haven't appeared. However, it seems pretty likely that they're going to cover everything- Kartana is literally the last Ultra Beast that they haven't dealt with in the Ultra Guardians plotline, and Ash's Meltan seems pretty nailed-on to evolve at some point (they've introduced loads of Meltan in addition to the one that Ash caught, and Meltan's kind of useless by itself).

If Meltan evolves and Poipole comes back (and maybe evolves itself?) Ash will finally have a battle-ready squad.

Only took them three years!

Figured I'd pop in here for old-times sake.

Currently my mindset on Pokemon is this:

Pokemon ORAS really satisfied me as I'm a huge fan of Gen 3 and it felt like a generally better experience due to the various improvements and additions such as the DexNav and helped made me feel more positive about the series again.

Then Sun and Moon happened and although I played it on and off for a few months, the story was really good I'd even say it's the best narrative and character progression story of the series by a substantial margin. The characters are likeable too which also helps! I enjoyed the trials instead of gyms because as someone who's played this series since 1998, I was wanting them to shake things up a little and this was a nice first step. All in all great Pokemon entry with my only true complaint (which I've had ever since Gen 5) is the really closed in world.

Pokemon Let's Go happened and it's really charming. Masuda made it sound like it'd be a real casual game but it's one of the toughest Pokemon games I've played lol. The AI is doing certain strategies and I've lost in this game more than I have any other Pokemon game in a while. I really enjoy the music in particular, it's very atmospheric and they recreate the music beautifully unlike FRLG.

Safe to say with these three games I'm pretty excited for Sword and Shield Hero version on the horizon. I hope it has plenty of character customization improvements too~

Can't wait for the inevitable thread on "Will Ash win the pokemon league?" with Avatar bets when we get to League Time, The X/Y thread was a doozy of a thread.

He should have won X & Y.

I prefer my arc of Sun & Moon idea I had running into it to the Pokémon School element, even though Sun & Moon has some great stuff.

Basically Ash wins the league (or comes in second) and his next journey has him invited to Alola to help set up the Pokémon League there, but before he can do that he has to explore the islands and participate in the Island Trials to show the residents of Alola that he has the skills.

Ah crap, didn't realize Zeraora wasn't allowed to be traded on GTS at all. Any chance anyone can help me out? I have plenty of extras of mythicals/legendaries and stuff, so we could hopefully work something out. Seriously can't believe I failed to pay enough attention and missed it, though. :/

What game(s) would you all suggest for two people playing side-by-side? Me and my boyfriend just played through Gen 2 and while it was a total blast the weird-ass balancing made it so that the second part of the game is largely a cakewalk. Anything with a little more difficulty or postgame content would be nice. Doesn't matter what platform/version.

BW2 are great for this, tons of content

I'm going to do XY with my uncle over the summer the same way so I'm excited to see how good that's going to be.

Been watching the Black/White anime in bed at night. I've warmed to Iris my second time through. I guess she was really unpopular though since she never made a guest appearance in Kalos.

Iris' hate was weird...folks criticize Ash all the time but when you have a character in the show do it people freaked.

I still think it was partially sexism/racism...I remember a lot of weird ways people refered to Iris as "barbaric" and other dogwhistles.

Meanwhile I've been catching up on S/M...I'm not there yet but suddenly everyone has a Legenday? Ash has Meltan, Lillie has (dead) Magearna, Mallow has Shaymin, and now an episode is about Lana helping a Kyogre so who knows if it'll hang around her house.

Well, they've set the League up so anyone can enter this time, so I'd guess that they're trying to boost the classmates to try and make them actual contenders- most of them had one or two unevolved Pokémon until recently.

I would be acutely unsurprised if Lana ended up catching or befriending Kyogre and using it at the League.

I skipped Gen 5 and haven't played Gen 4 in a good ten years, so I'm on a voyage of rediscovery through Gens 4-7 in advance of Sword/Shield.

My planned route is:
Platinum => White => HeartGold => White 2 => X => Sun/Moon => Alpha Sapphire => Ultra Sun/Moon

(Alternating gens to avoid repetitiveness, and going for the opposites to the games I played in Gen 4/6/7. I never played B2W2, but I heard that you should play the same colour for both so you can get both legendaries.)

I'm on my way through Platinum at the moment, and I completely forgot how good this was! The music is amazing, especially the Team Galactic battle theme, and the world design is so varied.

I do have some questions for anyone familiar with Platinum:
I just got to the Distortion World and man, talk about your insane difficulty spike - the Cyrus battle is the first in the entire game where the opposing party had some active forethought put into it (Houndoom with Thunder Fang, Gyarados with Earthquake) - and there isn't even anywhere in the DW to grind in preparation!

I've made it through the game so far while being relatively underlevelled (37-43 atm), but I guess I have to grind now. Is there a good grinding spot I can use? And is there a way out of the DW other than losing the battle?

If you haven't that's a great place because he'll heal you up after each fight and the Pokemon give good Exp

I did! I'm kicking myself now because the free healing was so fantastic for easy grinding. Are there any others I can exploit at this point?

I don't think so. I think the rest are post-game.

Use the Vs. Seeker. I recall outside Pastoria to the East is a Super Nerd who has a lot of good Pokemon to grind on, Eeveelutions and like Tangrowth that give out good Exp

Edit: Nevermind it's Route 214 near Veilstone. There's two Collectors I remember grinding on.

So, I'm bored, and with all this speculation about the rumored Armor Mechanic in SWiSH (fuck you I like that abbreviation!) I thought about my own idea for a big mechanic and I wanted opinions.

So, I like to think and speculate about "what if Game Freak made a region based on so-and-so", and my recent idea is Hong Kong. Basically a mix between east and west, with temples alongside modern skyscrapers.

So, I thought of a big mechanic known as "PokeSouls". They're these magical disc-like objects that come about by resonating with Pokemon, inspired by the ancient Chinese "bi" discs. In lore, I thought that this could be why TMs and HMs resemble discs, they're basically a man-made version of those. The Trainer could use them along with a Soul Driver wrist-device to empower their own Pokemon with PokeSouls.

So, almost every Pokemon has a PokeSoul---exceptions would be Legendaries, Baby Pokemon, Ultra Beasts, and some misc. ones for lore reasons like Porygon and Ditto. A PokeSoul corresponds to one of the Pokemon's Type, but it's always standardized---Charizard PokeSouls are always Fire, never Flying, and such. In the case for Pokemon with multiple formes, it'd vary but typically there'd only be one PokeSoul---so Oricorio would have a single Flying PokeSoul representing the "default" yellow one, there'd be no Alolan Variant PokeSouls, they'd just give you the original, but in the case of say the two original Lycanroc each would have their own since they're radically different designs. Event Pokemon like Dusk Lycanroc would not, however.

PokeSouls are then divided by star ranks, from 1 to 3. Typically this corresponds to the strength of the represented Pokemon, so Charizard is 3 while Charmander is 1, but in some cases it'd vary like a single-stage Pokemon such as Farfetch'd might surprisingly be a 3 Star. You can equip a total of 3 PokeSouls among your team, taking the place of Hold Items, but you're limited to 3 Stars total---so you can give three of them a 1 Star, one a 1 Star and one a 2 Star, or one a 3 Star. Any Pokemon (a few exceptions, obviously, like those requiring Hold Items to even exist!) can equip any PokeSoul, however.

Each PokeSoul grants a passive effect to the holder, some mimic Hold Items or Berries while others are quite unique. These are usually based on the abilities of the Pokemon the PokeSoul represents. Marill, for example, is known to have an oily body that water runs off of easily so its PokeSoul would reduce Water damage done to the user. Heatmor is all about taking down Durant, so its PokeSoul would power up Special-type attacks of the user when used against Steel-type Pokemon. Some PokeSouls would have field effects too, or gimmicky effects for fun---I'm thinking Farfetch'd's would grant a power up and priority to the move Cut, and Dunsparce would simply allow the user to escape Wild Battles. There's obviously a lot of balance issues that could happen, but I'm kind of like...so? I sort of think of it being a single-player focused mechanic allowing the player to mess around, with it merely an optional competitive mode (like enabling Spirits in Smash) that can offer up some chaotic fun.

PokeSouls also take the place of Z-Moves, somewhat. Once per battle, a PokeSoul can be "Soul Burst'd" which basically summons the spirit of that PokeSoul (just the model of the Pokemon with a glowy filter) to unleash an attack, after which the passive bonus of the PokeSoul is lost for the rest of the match. Each Type of PokeSoul has a set attack like basic Z-Crystals (but new moves now), so Fire-based PokeSouls always use the same attack. Some PokeSouls of popular Pokemon would technically unleash unique attacks with their own animation and name, but these would be only aesthetically different and still function as just a move of their Type.

The difference here is that a Pokemon can use a PokeSoul Soul Burst WITHOUT needing a move corresponding to the Type---that's right, you basically get a fifth move slot for coverage. However, for balance, they work differently from Z-Moves. The base power of the Soul Burst corresponds to the Star Rank---1 Star have 40BP, 2 Star 60BP, and 3 Star 80BP. They're either Physical or Special based on the highest stat of the user (or chosen randomly if a tie), and they take into account the stats of the user and target prior to any stat changes. So, it's a flat attack that can't be powered up with Swords Dance and such. Unlike Z-Moves they can go through Protect and the like and while they don't take accuracy into account, they can miss if the target is in the air/underground etc. So it can be a surprise coverage move, but avoided.

It also incorporates Mega Evolution, with 3 Star Mega PokeSouls based on Mega Pokemon. You can equip them only to the non-Mega version of that Pokemon, and then it works akin to Mega Evolution. They can't perform a Soul Burst or anything, and Mega PokeSouls don't provide additional benefits, it's just a way to incorporate Mega Evolution as it was without needing to bring back Mega Stones.

Finally, PokeSouls are influenced by the candy in Let's Go. The Types of each PokeSoul correspond to a stat:
* Normal, Water, and Fairy are HP.
* Fighting, Ground, and Dark are Attack.
* Rock, Ice, and Steel are Defense.
* Fire, Electric, and Dragon are Special Attack.
* Grass, Poison, and Psychic are Special Defense.
* Flying, Bug, and Ghost are Speed.

By using excess PokeSouls, you can channel their energy into each Pokemon as EVs. Each Type of PokeSoul grants an EV of that stat, with the Star Rank determining 1-3 EVs. EVs aren't earned any other way now, but PokeSouls are plentiful by the post-game and it allows the player to quickly raise stats. Unlike Let's Go there's still the usual cap, and though you can fill up a Pokemon with PokeSouls they don't earn the stat boosts right away still requiring leveling up so you can't abuse them like candy. There'd also be an exorcist who could take away PokeSouls to refocus EVs.

PokeSouls would be found in a variety of ways---key events in the plot, hidden items, and even purchased at various places. Every time you defeat a Wild Pokemon it may also drop its PokeSoul, with low level PokeSouls dropping more often. Also by increasing your bond to the max with a fully evolved Pokemon you'd obtain its PokeSoul as well.

Finally, there are Over Souls, which take the place of HMs/Ride Pokemon. My idea was like Let's Go, you couldn't box your Starter Pokemon---they'd always follow you, though you could evolve them. Basically a seventh slot you can switch out between battles. Anyway, Over Souls channel the energy of certain Pokemon directly into the Starter Pokemon, changing them into a "spirit form" of that Pokemon that's colored green, red, or blue to match the Starter's Type. You obtain these through story progression, and they act as HMs except you always can use them since you always have your Starter to channel them. Two ideas I had was a Scyther Over Soul which can chop down certain obstacles, and an Arcanine Over Soul which is your basic mount.

So, would that be an interesting mechanic or too messy?

The Pokemon Community thread really died with the move to Era, huh? The thread used to move pretty fast at the old place.

Anyway, I recently started collecting cards of my favourite Pokemon. Lugia SL7 is a new addition that is absolutely gorgeous.

Brace yourselves, because some of you are going to be mad.

There's plenty of Pokémon discussion going on, but it's largely confined to the Sword and Shield thread.
