By the way, how where you guys introduced to Pokémon? TCG for me

For me I distinctly remember seeing the Commercial for Red/Blue on TV, not really thinking much of it, I mean because it was a dude driving a Bus putting creatures on it and then crushing the Bus in a car crusher .... odd.

Not long after, I went to my neighbor's house and he was playing Pokemon Blue. I watched him play for a bit and it just generally looked like a lot of fun.

I don't remember asking my mom or dad for the game but remember getting it not long after (I assume parents talking convinced my mom to get it for me) and man that entire summer was nothing but Pokemon.

I fell down the Hype Slope hard back then, once I got the game I was hooked. I watched the Anime, I had the Red Version, and I joined the Pokemon TCG League locally to get badges. I remember getting the Pokemon Yellow with the Special Edition Gameboy Color as well.

It's funny how if I went by commercial alone, I never would have got into the game, but watching someone play started a life long love for the franchise.

After coming back from studying in India for 2 years and I completely lost track of video games. I was being reintroduced to video games through my cousin. He got Pokemon Blue for his birthday when it came out. We stayed up all night playing the game. I was hooked on it ever since. My cousin, on the other hand, lost interest in Pokemon. I keep trying to get him back into it. He mainly became a PC gamer. Lol.

Had a dream last night where they revealed two Eeveeloutions

Wyverneon was a dragon type that was a red and black Eeveeloution except instead of front paws he had scaly wings that kept it afloat and a spiked tail.

Toxieon was a poison type that looked was purple that had spines over its body and a mane of constantly flowing/moving sludge

The anime. I was a kid, 5 or 6 years old when the anime premiered in Mexico. I remember watching the English episodes on Kids WB or however it was called, but I really don't remember which was first. In Mexico they aired the episodes on weekdays, they would show Ranma 1/2, Pokémon and Dragon Ball Z.

I remember my life before Pokémon, but I honestly don't remember how it happened, how it was the first time I watched it. Just, suddenly one day my siblings and I were obsessed with it.

Later we knew through a cousin that there were these Game Boy games, we didn't own a Game Boy but he did, and he would let us watch him play. He only let us play Pokémon Stadium on the 64. We used to think that the videogames and cards had come after the anime.

But, before all that, we had these collectible "tazos" that would come inside every bag of Cheetos, Sabritas, etc. I would dare to say that it was the anime and the tazos what made Pokémon so famous in Mexico, at least where I live, rather than the videogames.

Pok%2B6.jpg

Then they released this stickers' album with the original 150. That's when I memorized them in order.

album-pokemon-hwo-13391-MLM3230562016_102012-F.jpg

I also had (and re-bought it two years ago) the Pokémon Master Trainer.

pic297011.jpg

And then it came the movie, it was crazy, the Burger King toys, the action figures, I even had underwear that had Pikachu on the front and Ash on the back lol. One brand of cookies even released this special edition with Pokémon printed on the cookies.

But yeah, even though I later understood the games were the main thing, to me it's more than just the games. I'm fan of the Pokémon, the creatures, the characters. I buy and play the games, because they feature the Pokémon, but if instead of Pokémon we had, dinosaurs or vegetables or humans, I wouldn't play that kind of game. I don't have a huge collection of things, but I love everything Pokémon related, cards, toys, plushes, drawings, I have lots of the Prima Strategy guides and so, because I just love to have things that show all the Pokémon, not just some of them.

Everyone will say the same about the era they got to live, but I feel really blessed to have been a kid at the time, old enough to remember, but young enough to fully enjoy it. I suppose teenagers that were into Pokémon back then had more info or more knowledge, and enjoyed it in their own way, but I think it was more magical for kids.

We need a delete button ;)

But since the post is already here, I just gotta say Britney Spears and Pokémon (since it came out in America) have been closely related through these over 20 years, but here it is a song of hers featured on the First Movie's soundtrack.

Totally forgot where I first encountered Pokemon...I think it was in an issue of Nintendo Power that showed the first route?

Forgot if I saw the show first before I got the game...either way I was hooked and now I can't even remember my life pre-Pokemon.

Almost kind of sad haha.

Hey, question from someone who is just now learning about competitive and stats. Is Slaking, like, really good? Like if it didn't have its stupid ability, would it be really killer?

I legit don't remember how I got into Pokemon, I just remember begging my parents for Pokemon Red or Blue and a GameBoy for Christmas 98 and I got Red and a GameBoy Color. I had just turned 5 a little over a week before that Christmas so my memories before that point aren't the most clear.
I had Pokemon fever HARD when I was a kid though, tons of toys, posters, books, all the games, VHS tapes, plushies and even my sheets and comforter were Pokemon themed. Besides posters my walls were also covered with my shitty child drawings of Pokemon.

I remember seeing a kid playing Red (or Blue?) in a doctor's office when I was a kid, and they let me watch for a bit. Became obsessed and begged for Blue version for Christmas. It was sold out but my sister got Red, so I played that mostly until I ended up getting Yellow when that came out.

People use to joke at the beginning of Gen 6 when Mega evolutions were new that Slaking Mega evolution would be him just standing up.

Yes, Slaking would extremely good as would Regigigas if he didn't have that dumb ability.

I really hate Regigigas's ability. Yes, I know it's extremely broken, but 5 turns!?

I think a two turn slow start would be a fair compromise. Either that, or keep the 5 turns but only half the speed and not the attack stat.

Now that we have Pokemon forms with BSTs over 700 I think an alternate form of Regigigas that changes his ability would be fine.

so true lol

Catching them in Emerald was a nightmare, but I liked how they connected them to Regigigas in Gen IV.
ORAS was a nightmare to work out for Regigigas

Take all 3 Regis with you.
Make Regice hold a Castelia Cone, Snowball or Nevermelt-Ice
Give Regice a nickname

How a child works that out, I have no idea

It's kind of crazy to think that the regis were in 4 gens in a row. They are lowkey some of the most abundant legendaries.

I have a theory that has no basis currently but i might as well tell it - There is going to be Galar Reigon Pokemon of Previous Generations (i still think its Gen 1 only) but there will be Regional Pokemon that will be exclusive to each version. I think two of the Galar Region Variants will based on the UK's Coat of Arms. Pokemon Sword will have the Lion which is the national animal of England and Growlithe line will be the type that embodies the lion. Pokemon Shield will have the Unicorn which is the national animal of Scotland and the Ponyta line will be the line that embodies the Unicorn. As for types - i think due to the Lion's Brownish Design i am going with a Fire/Ground Typing. As for the Ponyta line - i am going with Ice/Fairy,Ice/Steel or Ice/Water

Figuring out the Braille riddles to catch the Regis was super rewarding to me as a kid - I'd love new types of puzzles in Pokémon games of that nature.

You know what made it like a million times worse for me? The fact that you could only get Regigigas in a specfic time period (I think it was the morning). Gamefreak JUST so happened to make a special tournament metagame where Regigigas made sense called Festive Feud in gen 6. For anyone who doesn't remember: Festive Feud was a tournament triples format where the gimmick was that you could only use Pokemon classified as White, Red, or Green, in the spirit of Christmas. This allowed Mega Charizard Y and Mega Gardevoir, two dangerous spread attackers who lost a LOT of checks in this format (like Heatran, who was considered brown by the game rofl), and banned almost every single user of Wide Guard.

So enter Regigigas: one of the few allowed Wide Guard users with great bulk. I only realized it was good after testing it on Pokemon Showdown, so I had to go on a mad dash to get one before the competition started on the 3DS. It was a fucking nightmare because of the specfic time Regigigas would be avaliable for soft reseting, I got a good one RIGHT before the competition started.

On the bright side, it worked out, and I did pretty well in the competiton overall (got #1 in the US, and I think top 30 worldwide? Wish they still had gen 6 records up)

Thank christ for bottle caps now so I don't run into those stupid situations. Hopefully a Hidden Power changer happens next gen so soft reseting becomes a thing of the past :P

I feel like a child would be more likely to stumble into that than an adult player. They might not understand what they did, but I can totally see them doing all of those things.
Kids seem like exactly the sort of players that would a) carry around and use a bunch of legendaries, and b) give nicknames to their legendaries. Both of those seem totally wacky for me today, but as a child? Just the word "legendary" was enough to win a Pokemon a place on my team. Instant cool points no matter how ugly they looked. Putting a Nevermeltice on Regice is also a very likely thing to happen coincidentally for kids; putting an ice-boosting thing on an ice Pokemon is rock-solid logic from a casual perspective, just like how a lot of players' first instinct is to run four STAB moves.

Yoo,I started with the game (my dad bought a gameboy and me and my brother would take turn playing pokemon, red for him, blue for me). But damn everything else is similar lmao.

I watched the anime first via bootleg english version that we didn't understand (I'm asian) though eventually they are officially aired with my language dub.

Tazos (from cheetos) and sticker (which is packed inside some candy product, kids would spend all their money on them, take the sticker and discard the candy). We then used to trade or play some stupid game with tazos/sticker as a bet, some kids would cry when they lose lol. They are pretty much the gacha.

Then the TCG, no one knows how to play them so we just made up our own rule lol.

Back then Pokemon is more than the games and really glad that I'm part of original Pokemon generation.

Regardless on how SnS turns out, I'll buy a Switch just for it.

Blue on release day for me, and probably played it more than I have played the other games. I have played one game per gen since except B/W. Never bothered with the third edition after Yellow, and the only remake I have played is Omega Ruby.

I think my first Pokemon game was the Pokemon Card game on Game Boy. I must have been 5 years old so I needed my Dad to read the text for me but I finally managed to beat the game on my own.

It was a great game.

If route 1 looks drastically more vast and detailed than gen 6 and 7, then I have high hopes of larger routes to explore in Sword and Shield. I can't wait to see more of the games.

Midgar, With Love
I got into Pokémon a couple of months before it came out here in America because my middle-school friend was already playing it on an emulator. I told that story in my recent LTTP thread but I guess I'll answer here too!

What are everyone's favorite pokedex entries? Imo the Gen 7 games had the best ones in the series.

Drampa is one of my favorites, If a child it has made friends with is bullied, Drampa will find the bully's house and burn it to the ground.
