I'm this close to canceling my pre-order. It's not even Dexit at this point, the game itself just sounds like shit now.

I've only seen a very small handful of the leaked Pokemon up until now (i'm playing with fire by checking this thread, but I don't care). Y'all think the game would be worth it just for getting to see them all for the first time?

I was in the leak thread all weekend gushing about the designs and how amazing they were.

They're the only reason I've ever been positive about this game.

Frankly to me Sword and Shield was a test to see if they should keep making games for the "veterens". Which they marketed SS as compared to Let's Go, now they know that's failed and the hardcore Pokemon fans hate them, there is no reason to make a game for them. Make it for the Casuals. I don't agree with this but it's likely the conculsion i can see GF coming to after this whole mess
? The game will sell like crazy.

#ThankYouGameFreak for making the entire game a straight line so I don't have to use more than my two brain cells

The issue is that Gamefreak is balancing around the exp share on, it's just their intended balance is ludicrously easy. It's not a mistake, it isn't a bug, it's literally working as intended because Ohmori and Matsuda think Kids are braindead

Midgar, With Love
Echoing the sentiment elsewhere on this page: the top-tier creature designs are the only thing saving the game for me so far.

I'm personally very pleased with the rival from that snippet I just saw and I usually only travel around with three or four Pokemon so I guess that'll help with the blatant XY-dom of the difficulty.

#ThankYouGameFreak for treating your fanbase like a bunch of children who are incapable of thinking for themselves, taking away options, and lying to our faces last year!

"The new title coming out in the second half of 2019 will be a completely different game [from Pokémon Let's Go]. It is not an entry game, but a game that we want longtime fans of the Pokémon series to look forward to."

And everyone though we were being overly pessimistic when we didn't buy it.

Shame things have turned so sour, I cancelled my pre-order earlier this week thinking I'd get it at a launch event or from another retailer but now I'm half tempted to just... not bother. I never finished Ultra Moon, might just do that instead and pick up SwSh later.

Collosseum was basically a Pokémon version of Final Fantasy VII visually and I love it

James Turner and Toby Fox need to break off and make their own Pokemon game.

You really shouldn't idealize people who you'd think would do more of what you want based on... what, exactly? It's just like with Morimoto. Involvement in something previous (or a completely different game) is no guarantee they'd do the same thing now. Especially since they're still involved in titles like this one. It feels like appropriating people who may or may not agree with you as "supporters" and appeals to authority.

The annoying part is that from what I've seen all they'd need to do is add an option to turn off the Exp. Share and tweak some of the levels and it being fine. Like, having a rival battle with four Pokemon after the second gym is great, but it's not if it's stupid easy because your is over-levelled.
Building on this, I do think it's also very easy to get sucked into the idea that the games are easy based purely off a stream of the first few hours where the player is using pretty optimised Pokemon for the situations he's facing. Now, let me make this very clear, I'm not saying these games aren't going to be stupidly easy, in fact, I think they almost certainly are. But I also feel like if you watched some play-through the start of HeartGold/SoulSilver using the traded Onix, or Black 2/White 2 using Riolu and their starter you'd probably think they looked pretty easy as well. One thing is for certain though based off this stream, the Exp. Share in this state is not compatible with the way that the majority of players have played the games for 20 years. If you keep a consistent team of six Pokemon you're going to be over-levelled and it's not going to be fun. I suspect that the idea here, especially with the ability to now switch out from the Box on the go, is to encourage players to use a varied number of Pokemon. However, forcing players to ditch the playstyle that they've had ingrained into them for 20 years with no way of getting it back is pretty shitty.

Saw the last couple minutes of that stream. I wasn't really enjoying the cave music, and the rival(?) music was too busy for my liking. Also seemed kind of easy... Did they at least keep the Set style battling option in the game?

Voice acting isn't needed and a desire for it is subjective, so calling that laughable isnt a valid complaint.
Lol of course voice acting is needed. If they're going to keep this cutscene heavy focus in their games they need to have all of them voice acted. After all, aren't these games made for kids?

Darn it, did I just miss the stream? Any hints where I can find it? Honestly interested in the music, why is it bad?

We don't know but I think the streamer has never swapped a Pokemon in battle So yeah it seems really really easy

Being honest here, this will get me shit but they should just make Pokemon games for the Casual Market like Let's Go at this point. You aren't going to please the hardcore fans at this point with Gamefreak's lack of time so why not just make smaller games like Let's Go and let the Hardcore fans enjoy HS/SS,BW. They are frankly facing a losing battle at this point trying to appeal to both and it's clear with this game they won't be able to make a game that will satisfy the hardcore fans so just focus on the casual go fans at this point.
Why not just let Nintendo make the main series for the hardcore fans and GF make smaller titles? The real problem is Gamefreak's management simply has no interest in investing in bigger budget projects and growing the studio because their incredibly simple games print money. In Gamefreaks mind: "If it aint broke, dont fix it.".

Coliseum and it's sequel XD are great spin offs. Definitely try them if you can get your hands on them.
Yep, they aren't perfect, but you can really see that they put alot of heart into the game. 10+ years later and the pokemon animations are still top notch with some outclassing the efforts of Sword and Shield. Like look st the fainting animations:
Heck, more amazingly, each Unown has a unique faint animation.

I stopped watching the stream but some people are saying that game literally prevents you from catching certain Pokemon if you don't have the gym badge that allows you to catch it?

Basically, After Let's Go, Game Freak wanted to make a Game that appealed to long-time fans of the series aka veterens.

And the ones who have been critcising the game most are the Veterans/Long Time Fan of the series. While the game won't fail for the casual market and in terms of money. A lot of the Veterens thanks to the dexit controversy have denouced the game and have been opening criticsing it.

From Game Freak's perspective - they create a game they thought Veterans would like and it backfired.

What they can do is either try and make another game that appeals to long time fans despite knowing the backlash their previous game got or have a game like Let's Go that will appeal more to Casuals and Mobile Games. Which one do you think is more likely

I still can't believe that if they didn't bother to make a background for an area - and this includes inside a gym - you basically get teleported to a weird void and then when the battle is over, you're back wherever you spawned the battle. That low level of effort is something else. Funny how that hasn't shown up in trailers yet.

tbf it was in the demo. We all just assumed it was not final footage though.
