Welcome to the second Pokémon Sword and Shield spoiler thread. Here you will be able to find a good amount of information in OP, divided by sections, so you can choose what info to spoil yourself. If you don't want to read any more info, you can just read whatever you want in OP and ignore the rest of the posts in this thread.

Discussion guidelines:

1- New Pokémon and forms can be discussed freely in this thread.
2- Story and character spoilers must be tagged.
3- New mechanics and QOL changes can be discussed freely.

Common questions:

The Galar Pokédex has 400 Pokémon but an additional 35 can be imported from older games. Also there are 2 additional new Pokémon that should be introduced in future updates.

- 81 new species
- 13 Galarian Forms

There's a 2+ hour episode, similar to Episode Delta, in which you catch the main legendary of the game.

There's the Battle Tower.

You can rematch every gym, they use more powerful Gigantamax Pokémon.

You can try to find all TMs and the new TRs (technical records, equivalent of move tutors for this Gen)

Just like most Pokémon games.

"The new title coming out in the second half of 2019 will be a completely different game [from Pokémon Let's Go]. It is not an entry game, but a game that we want longtime fans of the Pokémon series to look forward to."

How soon can we catch toxtricity?

From what I recall from the stream -
Toxel is given you as a gift Pokemon at level 5 before the second gym, and levels up fast. I'm forgetting Toxitricity's evolution method, but with how easily experience points are given in this game, I'd say fairly early to mid game.

Yeah this game screams "more of the same."

Yeah that stream decreased my hype. The exp share thing is so god damn disappointing. Music is middling to somewhat abrasive in a lot of places and very linear routes and areas so far with nothing really to justify it considering they don't even look that nice.

Also as much as i am mixed on him. Can we please stop throwing vitrol at Serebii, he's not the one responsible for this game's problems.

Reposting for the new thread:

The annoying part is that from what I've seen all they'd need to do is add an option to turn off the Exp. Share and tweak some of the levels and it being fine. Like, having a rival battle with four Pokemon after the second gym is great, but it's not if it's stupid easy because your is over-levelled.
Building on this, I do think it's also very easy to get sucked into the idea that the games are easy based purely off a stream of the first few hours where the player is using pretty optimised Pokemon for the situations he's facing. Now, let me make this very clear, I'm not saying these games aren't going to be stupidly easy, in fact, I think they almost certainly are. But I also feel like if you watched some play-through the start of HeartGold/SoulSilver using the traded Onix, or Black 2/White 2 using Riolu and their starter you'd probably think they looked pretty easy as well. One thing is for certain though based off this stream, the Exp. Share in this state is not compatible with the way that the majority of players have played the games for 20 years. If you keep a consistent team of six Pokemon you're going to be over-levelled and it's not going to be fun. I suspect that the idea here, especially with the ability to now switch out from the Box on the go, is to encourage players to use a varied number of Pokemon. However, forcing players to ditch the playstyle that they've had ingrained into them for 20 years with no way of getting it back is pretty shitty.

Is..is this the interior of the gym? I didn't catch the stream but saw some screenshots.

Yes, there was also a segment where a guy was fishing on a bridge and the pokemon battle background ended up looking like something on a standard route from earlier that looked nothing like the area the player was in.

Tha backgrounds are weird, that's not what the actual gym looks like, just all the pre-leader fights are in a blue void for some reason.

You get given its pre-evolution in the daycare on Route 5.
You get the pre evo as a gift from the day care

Some of the music is really good - I quite like the gym leader and Bede battle themes, and then some of it is just an ear-blasting mess, like the wild battle theme. It's so incongruent.

damn disappointing to hear some of these impressions based on the stream

I'll still enjoy the game if it's a retread of the same old formula, Since it does work, but I must say I heavily dislike Masuda and Ohmori's approach to these 3D Pokémon games.

I wish someone would breathe some new life into the franchise aside from new Pokémon designs.

Once again, I feel so fucking alienated by this franchise, its fans, and the developers itself. I've played Pokemon the same way for years (only using new Pokemon in every Gen, no Exp. Share, no grinding, etc.) but according to the fans who are defending this game and Game Freak themselves, I must have been playing wrong for years, so they may as well just throw away the way I play these games, right? Nice to feel like I'm expendable. #ThankYouGameFreak
