as long as the loaded areas are large enough, I don't mind transitions between field and town. I'm playing LG right now and wondering why are there even transitions between floors of buildings

Yeah I dont think people will mind a short load screen (needs to be short) if the routes are much bigger and you can free roam around with cut trees and rocks places just to make you come back.

I think we're gonna see more overworld mechanics and Amie/Refresh improvements in the next gen, i have a hard time thinking what major combat mechanics they can do.

Please no more new battle gimmicks. Focus on making the region more interesting and interactive instead. The battle side of the games is fine.

I hope Super Training returns and is improved from Gen 6, was sad when they removed it as it made EV training so much more intuative and easier to understand and opened up competitive Pokemon to new people.

And improve Hyper Training, no odd level 100 restrictions or one a day nonsense, let people's story Pokemon be viable in competitive which would further help the competitive become more open and accessiable for everyone, curbing the elitism. Also would help get rid of the creepy eugenics stuff that IV training unfortunately has at the moment.

While everyone wants more presentation. I want a faster game.

Attack animations, quick.
Cut scenes, quick.
Intro to battles, quick.
Less story or at least more of it in the background.

My dream Pokemon would be Black White 2 with HD sprites, include all the new mons that came after, update the battle system with types and give me PSS, Dex nav and hyper training and I'm good.
Just less of the walk ten feet *explanatory cutscene* walk 20 feet *explanatory cutscene* walk to the end of the route *explanatory cutscene* would be good.

I feel like they could confer all the stuff they want much more succinctly than they did, especially in Sun/Moon, which made me feel like a teenager stuck at the mall with his mom. "Ugh, just let me go! I've got stuff I want to do!"

I know this is considered VERY far out, but given the series has done time travel, multidimensional travel, Kaiju, Nightmare on Elm Street and had you riding a Dragon to space to fight a meteor surfing alien, I don't think it's THAT far out in comparison.

How about a region completely different, something truly alien for the series, think 300 year jump into the future on their world's equivilant of the Moons of Jupiter (aka the classical 4, Io, Callisto, Ganymede and Europa), half terraformed. A mixture of classic Pokemon and truly alien Pokemon like Deoxys was. The ability to play as different races like human, a space elf like race (the offspring of humans and...) and Douhel, a non-pokemon distint cousins of Deoxys.

Now to me, that would get me excited to play a new Pokemon game and something truly unique for the franchise.
This sounds absolutely insane. I love it.

It'd probably never happen, but it'd be amazing if it did lol.

Could also be Madagascar:

Ooh, nice catch.
They would make it Fire/Fighting. I'd rather have the Ox/Sheep.

the problem with combat gimmicks is that they like to neglect them in the future. for as much fanfare they made about Megas, they dumped it awfully quickly. but if they thought they were such a bad idea, why didn't they remove them? I don't know, but I want them to either commit or trash shit completely instead of leaving them in this weird limbo

I just wanted starters that don't used tan/brown/black in their color schemes and a non-tropical region.

It's the fandom that pushes this idea that Megas are some failed gimmick because it wasn't iterated on; for all we know they could've just planned the ones they did and that's it. They are still a part of those Pokemon just like formes and still appear in wider media.

I wouldn't be surprised if there wasn't any regional forms in this new game either

the issue is that'll have this vestigal organ of a mechanic that will only shrink as more pokemon be introduced. if there aren't any megas in Gen 8, then we'll probably hit 10 years of an all-but-abandoned mechanic. at that point, I have to ask what was ultimately the point? if it was something that made sense at the time, but they just gave up on it afterward, I think they should remove it

I want a fire sheep. I think there are a lot of fun things they could do with wool and ash and smoke for the design.

Now I want to draw something up...

But they aren't abandoned. They've been in every game since their introduction, hell even Let's Go used them and they certainly didn't have to. We're talking about a series that still goes out of its way to include some area that lets you change Deoxys' forme or have vendors that give you every legendary forme-changing item no matter how redundant or old it is... like this clearly isn't something that matters to them.

The point of them was to have a cool new thing to showcase and market in the lead-up to the Gen 6 games' release. Just like the Alolan forms and Z-Moves in Gen 7.

Maybe they will dump them but I surely don't want them too. I don't see what the harm in including them is when it's basically optional post game material now like the other form-changing stuff.

I'm reposting my wishlist from 2017. Hoping for some big changes that I think most people will find positive.
  • I want them to create a living world and let me live the way I want inside it. Remove badges/HMs as means to progress to next area. Scale enemies accordingly.
  • It makes sense that the stronger I become the better the enemy trainers that want to face me will be and weak ones would avoid me. Maybe Introduce a fame system? I'm sure there can be a perfect formula that takes into account your team levels, your badges and the trainers you have defeated.
  • Get back to mafia-style villains like Team Rocket was. I feel like the main villain becomes even more ridiculous each time. Bigger scale isn't always better.
  • Have more variations of each pokemon. Every pokemon shouldn't be the same, give them different sizes like bigger ears or smaller claws etc. and maybe reintroduce colour varieties (like Pokemon Stadium had but make it independent of its name).
  • Some legendary Pokemon should be unobtainable and others breedable (with a few exceptions). Why am I even able to catch time travelling/dimension destroying deities?
  • More ways to find pokemon. In every game there are new stuff and then in the next one they are gone. I'm talking stuff like seasons, headbutt, honey, bait, etc. Also, add more species in every region. You're telling me that there are no seagulls in Kanto? (Thankfully this seems to be a non-issue judging from the latest games).

Even though these might not happen I hope that the Switch hardware will allow GF to create a game that reflects the franchise's sales and popularity.

If there has to be a gimmick, I'd go for an a Persona style ally system or once more system between your two pokemon that help eachother out and provide buffs to eachother and potential buffs the more they work together, but you have to be cautious because the opponents will also have their pokemon ally between eachother as well (Except the low level grunts of the Villain Teams, they suck and don't know how to work together). Even benefits the two controller design to let two players play at once and let them balance the game around 2 players playing at once.

And yes, I am saying this just so we can make all the main game battles the superior double battle system.

At some point they will have to do a Star Wars/Monster Hunter like purge just because the whole series is bloated. What form that takes, from something as simple as removing mechanics introduced in older gens like Megas to as drastic as deleting pokemon, I don't know.

Yeah because Let's Go showed how great arbitrarily removing things is lol

I don't think they'll ever delete a Pokémon.

The number one thing I want from the next pokemon game is asynchronous trading between users. Sort of like GTS if it was between friends and not just pokemon craigslist postings all demanding legendaries for weedles. It's great to arrange trades on message boards and such, but it's a pain to for both parties to both be online at the same time to initiate the trade. I would love it if I could just say to the game "I am putting up Pokemon X to trade to Friend Y, expecting pokemon Z in return" and then close my Switch and not have to worry about it. My friend agrees to the trade at their convenience and next time I open my Switch I see the trade has been made. No waiting by my 3DS waiting for someone in another time zone to log in, hoping to catch the moment they initiate the trade, easy peasy.

Speaking as someone who has been with the franchise since my friend Eddie downloaded some kind of Japanese demo ROM a month before the US release of Red/Blue... and yet has never taken part in the competitive scene for largely the sorts of reasons you cited... I appreciate the willingness to push for opening the door to more players.

It's funny how in the first 2 hours of OG Sun / Moon you fight like 3 times at most. I wish the games had a "I have played a videogame before and don't need another explanation on how the Pokemon Center works" mode.
