Just in case there was any doubt, Pokemon Let's Go is not selling to just the faithful. Apparently it is driving hardware sales. Whether or not they are driven to the extent of helping Nintendo meet their goal of 20 million units remains to be seen, but for now, it looks like Nintendo's gambit paid off.

The UK chart with high double digits growth for two consecutive weeks for Switch evergreens was already telling. It is nice to have the confirmation for the US too.

Let's Go demographic was never centered on the faithful. Does look like it's paying off, but it never really seemed like that would be too great a challenge, they've implemented damn near every measure to appeal to a wider audience.

Well yeah it's pokemon. I'm sure there were some old fans that were waiting for this game to pick up a switch.

It's a given that an IP as large as Pokemon would drive sales, especially on the back of a widely accepted movie trailer that brought it back in the spotlight.

My question is how much more would it have potentially done had it been a "traditional" Pokemon?

It's Pokemon man, of course it's gonna be a system seller. It will be the same when Smash hits too.

I'll post my impressions on the ot later on but I can see why. For me this is the game I wanted since gen 2.

I sincerely could careless about the little QoL improvement the series has gotten but to me it has always felt the same. I just needed a console version of it.

I mean we already knew that was going to happen. People who buy Pokemon games are a very different audience from those that are buying the Switch for BotW or SMO. The question was how it would perform compared to other Pokemon games in the series and if it would bring a significant portion of Pokemon Go players and newcomers to the Switch.

What gambit would that be? Releasing a game from the biggest franchise in the world on their system?

Well deserved. PS4 is pratically giving money in that bundle, so the figures are understandable, nintendo is selling full price, which is impressive.

Given that Pokémon Red/Green/Blue/Yellow pretty much boosted the sales of the Gameboy and extending its lifespan for another few years till its successor the GBA, the colour was akin to a DSi/New3DS, I am not really surprised that Let's Go would have the same effect for the Switch.

Pretty sure everyone guessed this would happen. It shouldn't really be a surprise.

None. I bet being tied to Pokémon Go is going to help more than being "traditional."

My gusss is PS4 takes November followed by switch. What was the last time a Nintendo console was 1st or 2nd in November? I know December it usually does better

Well yeah, this was very expected. The extent will be what's interesting to watch.

Though I think the great word of mouth will help the amount of hardware pushed by this game to exceed expectations.

I think Smash sales will probably be better post-launch and once people are playing it at holiday parties. Let's Go hype will trickle out, too, mostly from the kids in classrooms and Go players wanting a home game.

Saw like 6 of those Spiderman PS4 bundles at Walmart today, just sitting there in the case.

Still contemplating getting one of the Let's Go Switch bundles. I don't need it, but I do want it.

Jeez your posts are really sticking out to me. I keep seeing you trying to downplay let's go!

Do you want to weigh in on whether Smash will move consoles? Because I've already seen countless posts (not by you) to the effect that ppl that will buy Smash already own a switch.

I wasn't even trying to downplay anything in this thread. I just pointed out the obvious.

Hard to know for sure, but marketing this year has heavily favored Smash above all else. It's also the one with Kirby.
I think a lot of that has to do with TPCi simply not being sure of how well Pokemon would do thanks to the early response to the game. That said, you are right.
Also, it does have Kirby, but more importantly it has Pikachu.

Smash has a similar wide appeal I think. Obviously not on the level of Pokemon, but its there
I think it does have wide appeal, but of Nintnedo's wide appeal IP, it's the least far reaching.

Well then it's still too early to say that has paid off, maybe wait for the big sales numbers to be announced.
I mean I say that in the OP myself.

Smash will definitely have stronger immediate sales, Let's Go seems like it will be a word of mouth game.

This game will have its legs cut short within the year. Plus new generations always have the absolutely huge media (anime, TGC, merchandise, etc.) push behind them that drive sales. There's a reason no remake has ever come within reach of a new mainline game.

My thoughts will be how those new Switchconsole owners will react to the current software. Will be just be a Pokémon machine to them or something more for software

It was unclear. Sales insiders were originally saying early metrics were pretty down for LGPE relative to previous games in the series.

Yeah.

Everybody's saying this was a given, and hey, maybe everybody posting right now really does feel that way. Probably, yeah? But plenty of people weren't so sure, including literal sales insiders.
