Yes. Ideally this should allow them to improve in other areas.
Personally, other than improving the battles both in terms of mechanics, but mostly in the aesthetical aspect (better size proportion, more personalized animations, better idle poses, etc) I really don't expect other stuff. Many people give so much importance to the overworld, and want an open world and whatnot, or the wild area to be bigger, but, why do they even want that, if they don't even want to catch too many Pokรฉmon? If they just want the open world to find people to fight against, it would be so much easier to just battle them at a facility like the battle tower or so.
I don't know what to say it, it's like people want the Pokรฉmon games to be all about exploring, and the map, and the dungeons, and whatnot, and while that spices up the adventure, I keep seeing battles as the main point of the Pokรฉmon games. All the maps and NPC's and stuff is just to have a reason for all those battles (against trainers or against wild Pokรฉmon). Like, I'm not against things that add fun or entertainment to the experience, but I don't see it as something that the main Pokรฉmon games NEED, in the sense that they're lacking it right now, in order to be complete or something (unlike missing Pokรฉmon). They're just extra stuff, a bonus on top of the main purpose of the game.
If the developers could give us both a huge and enriched experience in the overworld, with dungeons and puzzles, and many different actions that the trainer could do to explore the areas, AND on top of that give us the ultimate battle experience, that would be more than welcomed. But if they're clearly struggling to improve everything and have to make a choice about what should they be focusing on, I'll always pick the battles / the Pokรฉmon (which are the ones that battle).
