I doubt it. MS has a dev kill streak that rivals EA.
Yup.I have absolutely no idea where people get the idea of exclusive games for Xbox even if there is some truth to this rumor.
If MS is shelling enough money to buy EA, it will be more to expand their games business model which means they will retain the games as they are, and reap the benefits of the business along with it. They did the same with Minecraft so it is not a new thing for them. They aren't going to drop such big bucks just to make some Xbox exclusives.
They will still have to sell games on other platforms, the majority of their revenue is by far on non-Microsoft platforms.I could go without EA games I guess.
They don't own Bethesda, do they?
Nah, MS should go for 2K. GTA/RDR/NBA exclusivtex will be thread worthy.
This would be absolutely terrible for the industry as a whole. Imagine games like Madden and FIFA only on Xbox/PC...
Next Battlefield game with free maps for everyone, similar to Gears of War 4. That would be dope!Only because of controversy. I have no doubt Microsoft would make sure the games microtransactions aren't too pushy if they owned EA.
They spent 2 billion to acquire a single game IP with Minecraft. 36 doesn't seem like much of a jump at that point to own an entire publisher.
Maybe SteamOS and Steam Linux would slow down and eventually die off...
I feel like Valve should be added to the thread title. Equally big news if that's true.
My thoughts exactly. At least with Disney-Fox, Disney didn't purchase Fox News or Fox Sports, which alleviated some of the monopoly concerns. In this case, I could see such a buy-out being a legitimate concern for the gaming industry considering how big EA is as a third party publisher.Sounds a lot like Disney's purchase of Fox, when you consider the implications on their on-demand/streaming service. With MS clearly going all-in on their Game Pass, it would make sense for them to fill out their stable with other significant properties that they could put as exclusives within Game Pass.
I doubt this will happen, though.
This would pretty much only make sense if they were going third party.
$13b. Yeah, it's a subsidiary
This is a good angle, Msft can see how popular and profitable EA access is and merging that into Game Pass would be a good move.So Xbox Game Pass makes more sense now since EA Access is its competitor. Microsoft might be aiming to the Netflix of games subscription.
Market cap is 13.63 billion USD.
Yeah and I think Zenimax / Bethesda already has good relation with MS.
Exactly. The entire narrative to buy EA to make a bunch of exclusives doesn't ensure any return of investment. Makes me wonder what Polygon was thinking before putting their piece together. Unless of course they know what's going to happen and are teasing what's next.I have absolutely no idea where people get the idea of exclusive games for Xbox even if there is some truth to this rumor.
