At the end of the day, most cons are shitty cash vacuums. The screening tickets are a pain in the ass. It's gotten harder and harder to get tickets.

I dig Mondo Con, but also half the reason for me to go to Austin is just to eat good food.

Screening tickets are gone instantly. It's unfortunate they do not do multiple screenings, but to their credit they have released some variants at the con for the screenings in case you were not able to make it (the witch, labyrinth). It's also cool meeting with the artists and really the best way to score original art. The food is also great in Austin. I live in MN and have made the trip down every year, but this is the first year I'm not going. It's a combination of trying to spend so much on posters and also that I am actively trying to get rid of my massive collection that started 10 years ago. I'm past the dream of thinking I'll get everything framed up and on a wall. I just don't really care anymore. I'm really only hunting down posters for stuff I truly love these days. Give me a Stout Hot Fuzz and Eng Shadow of the Colossus and I'll be good for awhile.
I'm okay with over paying for one or two standout prints from each MC and not having to deal with the hassle otherwise.

That said, one year, maybe I'll try it. Maybe!

Completely unrelated, I brought the Ash Thorp Gray Fox to the framers this weekend (along with a few other things) after having it sit in storage for years. Nothing crazy, but excited to get it framed and displayed finally.
I have mine framed up. I'll have to take a pic and post it in this thread!

Looks awesome! I actually thought that was the variant for some reason- either way, I also had that one framed. I can already tell it won't look as good as what you've got going on! No mat, no float mount, and the frame is actually a dark blue- will post a picture when I get it back.

Thanks. Unfortunately I did not go with museum glass at the time. I may get it swapped with some at some point.

Hah, framed Iron Giant right next to it. Are we the same person?

That Ico frame looks much better than how mine is framed- I need to give it a proper frame and even mentioned doing so to my wife a couple days ago.

Skipped the Danger, which is fantastic, because, yeah, so much stuff by him already. Maybe down the line if I get rid of some stuff because there was an abandoned house in NJ that I used to go to to photograph that looked an awful lot like that print.

Those BTAS prints are great. That is a ton of paper, though!

This looks to be the beginning of a series they're doing with the Alvin Estate so expect classics like Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls, Ernest: Scared Stupid, and Cobra in the future.

Lots of poster news today and I don't like any of them, nice!

I wonder if next week we'll start seeing more Endgame stuff. It feels like its been very quiet.

I missed the fucking Goon poster by seconds. I was just about to complete payment when it sold out. Fuck this shit. Now I remember why I stopped buying prints.

I'll never understand the limited print runs. Do they hate money?

The limited runs are - typically - specified by the licensor, so as not to affect the sales or purchases of other posters and prints they may've licensed.

Every now and then, a licensor allows "timed" prints (where every order between x date and time and y date and time are valid, and the poster is printed to that number), but on the whole, yeah, thems the breaks of doing business "properly".

Timed should be the standard. That way at least people know when and where to buy them, and they're still technically limited.

Oh, timed print runs are the absolute fucking best. But yeah - at the end of the day, this is what happens when say, a Mondo confirms with Disney that they can make a specific print. Disney has deals with mass-market companies producing those cheap posters you see at Walmart or Target. They don't wanna fuck over those deals. Hence, we get like, 300 on a drop.

I prefer some scarcity so I feel like my print is cool/rare. Though some that are INSANE to get are nice to have an open run of though (ie something like Infinity War or Star Wars).

The hobby wouldn't exist if everything was easily copped, and a healthy mixture of limited edition and small timed editions is great. But random times can fuck right off.

As mostly a lurker, I think the happy medium is something like unlimited abundance timed editions that also have limited edition variants.
