I'll go first. I would have voted for John Kasich over Hillary if he won the primary in 2016. That or Green party.

Let me explain. Basically post your unpopular opinions or Political sins and confess them.

I wish I didn't vote Liberal in 2015 (Hunter Tootoo was the candidate). I also regret voting for the NDP in my riding in 2019 after the Green candidate came in 2nd behind the Liberal candidate. Mike Morrice supported the a GND so that was a big mistake on my part.

Do you mean 2016?

I used to be pro-USA/anti-communist.

As for unpopular opinions, well being a communist is pretty unpopular.

I despise all forms of populism as I believe it naturally tends to cult of personalities resulting in a final outcome of an authoritarian state.

I can’t detect the lies.

Me? While I was always on the left of things I actually thought the right was better than just power through bigotry; I even registered as a Repub when I turned 18 to be the contrarian in senior year and to ‘vote in the most moderate GOP candidate’ even tho I never voted in a GOP primary or voted GOP for that matter.

I’m progressive on pretty much every issue, but I disagree with the leftist take on cultural appropriation. I think cultural appropriation is a morally neutral thing. If done respectfully, cultural appropriation is fine. The blending of cultures is one of the things that makes a lot of countries unique.

Add me to the pile of this.

I didn’t have a firm understanding of exact political policies that I believed in and how they affected other people, but I was drinking the “America is good no matter what” Kool-Aid for a LOT of my youth, and I kept that zeal even as I shifted out of my automated conservatism and more left into American liberalism circa Obama’s 2008 campaign. I admit I didn’t fully drop it until Trump’s win in 2016. I used to unironically and proudly hang a US flag on my wall as decor. I took it down the day after Trump’s win. It’s been a tough but necessary 4 years of reflection since.

“Commies bad” was just an attitude I unquestioningly adopted from pop culture. And for the record, I do think the philosophy and idea of communism as laid out by Marx is fine and probably would be good. I don’t think some of the 20th century regimes that operated under “communist” identity were good though. Like, fuck the USSR specifically.

I do not think Kamala Harris is transphobic. I trust she will be a pretty strong ally to the trans community. I suspect many who say this about her are either ignorant of her record and repeating what they heard or are acting in bad faith.

Death penalty makes sense where some extreme crimes are concerned and supporting blanket ban on it is batman levels of crime fighting logical inconsistency.

No. The facilities and personnel used for the legal process of death sentencing are more expensive than feeding/clothing someone in jail for the rest of their life. I'd rather my tax dollars went somewhere else.

I will never be convinced that marxism is ever going to be a good idea in practice; mainly due to the fact that I saw most of the major players shift away of outright exist during my lifetime.

I got drunk one night about 6 years ago and watched Jordan Peterson youtube videos. Luckily, his toxic bullshit didn't stick longer than that drunken night.

I actually agree with Trump's comment that minimum wages should be based on state. For example, California min wage should be WAY higher than... idk, Utah. It should always be based on the needs of the people, though.

I feel like a blanket minimum wage is lazy & won't solve problems as cost of living in each state continues to vary.

Extreme left usually isn't against gun control and personally I'm indifferent. I just don't care either way tbh.
There's plenty of people here who's very anti-gun, so it's kind of a sin in this community.

I'm all for regulations, restrictions, and red tape to make it harder to own certain firearms, and I think we should have studies and conversations to shift society in a manner that would likely naturally reduce gun ownership over time, but I don't think we need to yank MP5's and AK-74's from people via buyback programs and only have legal shotguns for everyone not a registered hunter or rancher.

Legalize all psychedelics. Must be 21 or older to obtain them from a licensed pharmacist. Government should fund research into their potential benefits for mental health and understanding of the human mind as a whole.

I was an idiot and voted Gary Johnson over Obama when I was 18 when I didn't understand politics much. Corrected that mistake in 2016, 2018 and 2020. :)

I'm super progressive in almost every domain, but I support gun ownership.
I used to be anti-gun, but lately, I've been more open-minded about it especially with everything going on.

I'm pro death penalty, in a very limited set of circumstances. That being said, I don't trust either the US government or any state government to get it right so in practice I'd never push for it.

I also think that all drugs should be legalized, taxed and sold in legal markets. People are going to use them anyway - users might as well be given access to drugs of known purity and composition.

Yes, and on top of this legalize and fund facilities capable of using psychedelics as an adjunct to psychotherapy and counseling. Academia could take the mantle on training therapists, psychiatrists and counselors to practice guided psychedelic sessions in addition to talk therapy.

This is pretty much my opinion as well. I think you have a right to own a weapon, but I don't think it should be easy to buy one.

After all the police shit that's gone down lately, I'm not comfortable with the state having a monopoly on lethal force.

Human rights do not exist. Rights do not exist, period. They're useful to have and good to uphold, but they're not "real" and we shouldn't act like they are. There is no such thing as a "right". They don't float out there in the ether like the Forms, supernaturally guaranteed but waiting to be recognized. Rights are things claimed and enforced by people through struggle. Violence is not inherently evil, and commitment to pacifism as an ideology rather than a tactic is foolishness.

Liberalism was a historically progressive movement against aristocracy that has worn out its welcome and can't provide solutions to root causes of problems.

I was a right wing, white evangelical Christian Republican voter in 1996 through 2002. I sat out 2004 (though I would have voted for Bush if I had bothered), and then also 2006.

By 2008, it became evident that I no longer agreed with most Republican positions, and I actually wanted Obama to win, but due to my Christian beliefs regarding abortion, I couldn't actually vote for him, so I still didn't vote. 2010, sat out again. 2012, though I still wanted Obama to win re-election, I again didn't vote. 2014.. same story... you might say that Kay Hagan lost her Senate seat in North Carolina because of people like me.

2016, I was over it. I voted for Hillary (and every other Democrat on the ticket), and it has been the same since.

I don't like saying "Thank you for your service" and feel like it is pure lip service now. Also, I really don't like this new trend of including police in Veteran's Day.

There’s a trend of this or is it the cops feeling sorry for themselves and appropriating it?

Because fuck cops if they think they’re fighting in warzones on American soil or some shit like that.

That fucking attitude can’t protect people.

That IS bullshit and that stance isn’t a political sin — they’re the ones committing fucking political sin.

I genuinely think the world would be a better place if people murdered the rich. Not in a sarcastic "haha kill the rich" sort of way, I genuinely think Jeff Bezos needs to be publicly executed.

Totally agree.

I'll be fully transparent. I'm in the process of making a short barreled suppressed rifle right now. Why? Because short barreled is easier to store and suppressed protects your hearing. In some countries with stricter gun laws, suppressors are pushed even harder for hearing safety. But some law makers got the idea that they were like the movies here and it means you want to be an assassin. Never mind they're still plenty loud.

There's a real lack of information of process for some of this too. To make this gun a short barrel rifle. I have to submit fingerprints, a photo and, +$200 to the ATF. They run a ton of checks and if I'm approved in a few months, I get a stamp. I have to get my gun engraved with my name and address on it. If I want to take it out of the state, I have to inform the ATF and get approval. My suppressor is a separate $200 stamp, same process, except it normally takes around 6-8 months to get approved. Additionally, people are only allowed to use this gun in my physical presence (including spouse or family). If I am not there, it must be locked with a combination only known to myself.

People worry about the more complex big guns used for nefarious purposes, but they are mostly obtained illegally though means that laws will not stop. Most gun deaths in the US are handguns. AR15 and AK47 sounds scary, but the threat of them is really not high compared to any other gun. I'm all for better gun safety laws, but I wish people actually understood what they were talking about when making gun laws instead of hyping up scary sounds names with a clear lack of understanding.

I have many unpopular opinions based on how my country voted on those topics:

1. Voting rights at the age of 16 instead of 18.
2. Plants and animals manipulated with CRISPR should be allowed to be sold and used.
3. If miltary service is mandatory for men, it should be for women too. Likewise, if women don't need to do military service, men shouldn't be forced to do it either.

It's more businesses around where I live are including them in their Veteran's Day specials as well as other First Responders. I don't hate EMS and firefighters like I do cops, probably because they aren't actively killing minorities like cops.

i cannot for the life of me teach myself to feel the weight of certain discriminatory words that were used against me in school. I get they are bad and actively discourage their use but i just do not view them with weight anymore.

I’m not saying I would vote for it myself, but I would be pretty ok if the government literally went door to door and took everyone’s guns.
