BREAKING NEWS: President Donald Trump said on Friday that he has indefinitely suspended the threat of tariffs against Mexico after reaching "a signed agreement" on immigration.

"I am pleased to inform you that The United States of America has reached a signed agreement with Mexico," Trump said on Twitter. "The Tariffs scheduled to be implemented by the U.S. on Monday, against Mexico, are hereby indefinitely suspended," he said.

Mexico made a show of force at the southern border so now he can claim victory for his minions

AMLO is weak if the Mexicans blinked, but he appeased him with the new NAFTA bs so wouldn't be surprised. American public opinion, Democrats, and even major Republicans were against this move....why appease a bully when you had a lot going for you?

Also I think rumour was that Mexico will be buying A X amount of USA farm goods but that was earlier in the day so no idea if it that isnalso part of the deal.

Probably something dumb like Mexico said theyd definitely try to stop people from coming to America and Trump said "cool" to stop the growing backlash.

lol don't get played. There were never going to be tariffs in the first place. He was completely alone on this.

I like how the title helpfully specifies who "President Shitbag" is in case we didn't know

Huge victory for Trump indeed. This just validated that bully tactics work. AMLO caved incredibly fast, despite having the upper hand thanks to rebel GOP and US Chamber of Commerce unanimous support.

And to think the idiot campaigned on standing up to Trump, lmao.

I doubt this is Mexico caving in to Trump. It probably has something to do with Mexico wanting to stop the influx of South American migrants using the country as a pathway to the US.

"this is a win for Trump in his own self-inflected issue on a crisis that doesn't exist!" - Era poster who probably doesn't talk about anything other than how Trump stubbing his toe will insure his victory in 2020

It’s going to definitely be some commitment to policing their Central American border and cracking down on immigrant caravans.

I don't know how you can spin this as not a victory. He threatened Mexico. Mexico caved. His base is going to EAT THIS UP and 2020 is right around the corner.
Our third largest trade partner, neighbor, and ally.

But sure, let's just burn all our bridges and alienate everyone. Then in a few decades we'll ask ourselves "Huh, why aren't we getting the kind of favorable relations that other countires are getting from X, Y, and Z?"

God you're hopeless

It hurts the soul, we were put a gun to our heads and were told what to do. This should be a lesson to never consider the US as an ally (it truly never was anyway) and just look for other trading partners.

Earth
Friday at 5 tells me they didn’t want to carry the bluster into next week lest they brutalize the markets and someone came up with a clever lie to call it a victory

Are there actually details or is he just pretending he won something so he can boost the stock market.........

Most of the things he does seem to revolve around the stock market.

My understanding is they were trying to negotiate Safe Third Country with Mexico similar to how the US has with Canada (just listened to CBC Power & Politics) but the Mexican representative didn't think Mexico would ever agree to that.

Can any of you saying this is a win for him explain? If you’re even being genuine...

An estimated 1,000,000 Central Americans are expected to cross into the U.S. through our southern border with Mexico this year alone.
