Those of you who has drank these bottles before, how would you rank em and what would be your top choice?

1.Charles
2.Comtes/Moet
3.Dom

But they’re all good so can’t go wrong for any festivities.

Jebus, even for a flex thread this is awfully specific. Lol

Anyways, bubblies are usually a simple affair for me. On the high end I'm a fan of Dom... Or really, anything not Cristal. Other than that, as long as it's not Veuve Cliquot we're all good; a $10 bottle of frixenet or a pricier Ruinart/Tattinger are all enjoyable in their own ways.

Just don't drink Veuve. Stupid overpriced sugar water

Comtes/Moet? Hmm Moet is the ones that owns Dom, Comtes is Taittinger. :)
Which is why I chose to drop dom to third. It’s good but I don’t think $150-170 good.

Edit: Oh I’m not saying Comtes comes from Moët, just that both are similar to me and Moët though no cheap is more accessible.

I've actually never had Cliqout and i've tried around 150+ different cuvées by now. I was also very lttp to Moet Imperial Brut the most sold champagne in the world.

It's not really a flex thread, it's more a passion or hobby thread as champagne is one of my hobbies. :)

I think I had a friend who specifically quoted "there's nothing wrong with a $20 bottle of Moet white star." And I tend to agree.

But if you tend to drink better then hey, cheers to that. ;)

I'd wish it were that cheap here, Moet is so overpiced here it's not even funny it is almost 50 euro for a standard NV Moet. At that same price i'd rather get something more interesting like Bollinger Special Cuvée or Heidsieck Brut Reserve.

At the 20 euro price range there are better options from other places like Cava, Franciacorta, Prosecco, Cremant and so on than champagne, imo. 20 euro Cremant >>> 20 euro champagne. Imo, at least here you need to aim at least the 35-40 euro price range to start getting anything decent from champagne. :)

Champagne pairs surprisingly well with cheap ass cheese snacks or just salty chips.

Just don't eat anything sweet like chocolate, strawberries with it just cus it's luxurious. Eating sweet stuff makes brut champagne taste bitter and sour as hell.

You need to pair sweet foods with a sweet champagne, usually says Demi-Sec or even more rare Doux on the bottle.

Oh no, that line is old, I should have specified. Bottles of White Star are definitely $50 here too.

And I 100% agree with you.

Visited the chapel of Dom Perignon in Rheims couple of years back. Was surprised to learn from our guide that all those expensive bottles/brands are basically mixes of 'leftover non high quality batches' of grapes from different local vineyards which are then sold at a serious markup.

Hautvillers? Hope to go to champagne region anytime soon after Covid. It is in Hautvillers the chapel where Dom Perignon were active.

Yea Hautvillers, small cosy town! Had a nice champagne tasting there with macarons in some Gault Milleau recommended place.

But ye basically the the current brand of Dom Perignon has zero to do with the actual person. They just bought his name to put on their overpriced marketing machine 😂

Most interesting champagnes you can drink taking the tours in the different vineyards around Rheims. Some are imo bad, others really good, but all in all they all had more 'soul' than those big brand bottles.

To see some of the more interesting tours and houses you need some contacts and book in advance to my understanding.

Dom might be considered ´overpriced´ but the 2008 is just delightful. It's so chalky on the nose that it almost smells like gunpowder and the palate so so balanced.

Grower champagnes are trendy as fuck in the 'wine world' right now as well.

Comtes des Champagne 2008. Charles Heidsieck Blanc des Millénaires 2006. Dom Pérignon 2008

Agreed with the first response.
1. Heidsieck
2. Comtes
3. Dom

I've always felt the Dom is overrated (although good) and Heidseick is one of my all around favorites (in almost all it's forms) so the choices are easy for me.

Only had Comtes once or twice but I enjoyed it

Those are all good wines, but where's the Krug grande cuvee OP?!

I had the 2008 Dom on the night that fucker Trump lost the election. Paired it with Popeye's friend chicken. After it got some air it developed some nice delicious flavors. I have one more bottle of 2008 DP, and am likely going to save it for when he croaks or goes to prison. Hopefully my storage is good enough to keep it for awhile.

Since this is the fine champagne thread, does anybody got any recommendations in the more in the $60 to $100 sphere for a great champagne? And since I always hear DP is overpriced, what tastes just as good but it cheaper?

I've only had the 2008 Dom P here because someone gave it to me, and I'm not bougie enough to know shit about champagne, so I voted for that one.

Ive had two of them.

I had the 08 Dom at a party a friend threw for himself for graduating law school years ago. I didn't have much but hated it. Then again, I had no palette for wine at that time. I don't think any of us did, it was just him trying to buy the fanciest thing he could think of.

The Comtes I had at the grand re-opening of a friends wine bar on the house, and it was really lovely.

If I'm drinking champagne I usually just go for a regular ass vieux clicquot, perrier-jouet or Tattinger brut as I think they are both really good and can be had for a not break the bank price. That said, I don't drink champagne much other than new years and when Trump lost the election.
