Found the UK Secret Service equivalent- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Protection_Command

This is going to be the part that makes financially disentangling the hardest. They will have no problem making money and using their available cash to buy homes in the UK and NA, but the cost of the protective services they currently are under is likely not something they could afford independently at the moment.
I don't understand why this poor woman is hated so much. I'm in the US and I still see random passive aggressive op-eds and shit about this lady. Is it because she isn't white or what?
That is literally all there is to it.

I like the perpetual salt generation from denizens who can't stand the idea of a black female royal, but my (or anyone's) personal pleasure isn't worth their mental anguish.

I think it's amazing that Harry luhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh him some Meghan so much that he's willing to go old-school biblical style leaving mother father and becoming one-flesh. Peace OUUUUUT!!!!

Yeah, he sure got off easy, serving 2 tours in a war zone.
Lots of other people did that.

It does not entitle them to a lifetime of luxury at the expense of tax payers.

I don't have a problem with him quitting, but pretending he's going to be financially independent is a joke unless he's going to pay back all the public money he was given or had spent on him since birth.

"Discussions"? What is Buckingham Palace going to do? It's not like they can lock up Harry and Meghan in the palace or anything
They - the queen - could say, if you want this life, you need to renounce your titles.

The one thing Harry has going for him here is his increasing distance from the throne as new heirs are born. But otherwise... I think it's dicey territory. This will have uncomfortable echos of the past for the queen I think, in how her uncle walked away. I'd say she's at the very least very hurt that he went public with this idea without any consultation, and it will probably make the next steps more difficult.

Wonder how many people who want the monarchy to end are British.

Also I cannot wait for this season of the crown.

Race the main reason and she isn't from that life.

I think she told Harry from day 1 they she didnt want to play the part of the Royal Princess and all that comes with it.

They decided not to spend Christmas at home and I have no doubt the Palace were not happy about that.

All we need now is Harry to say his becoming a Catholic for the final nuke.

I don’t like any royals, but if they want to be independent then they can do that. Just give back our tax money to the country too.

On the one hand lmao at spinning "working towards becoming financially independent [of the UK taxpayer]" as a virtuous thing, however this appears to have pissed off all the other royals, and that can only be a good thing.

I bet this pissed off Liz way more than all of Andrews paedoing did

She deared to have the blood of the negro in the british royal family
Jesus christ people are insane. If I were them I would stash some money, give up the royalty status, move somewhere beautiful and tell everyone who didn't like their relationship to fuck off into the sun. Looks like they are taking baby steps towards that and I hope they succeed.

"Possible signs the couple were looking to distance themselves from the institution of the monarchy had emerged over the course of their relationship. They decided their son, Archie, should be referred to as Master, rather than using the courtesy title Earl Dumbarton or to style him Lord Archie Mountbatten-Windsor."

Earl Dumbarton?
How is master better??

Basically a mix of racism, xenophobia, breaking protocol, being different. People don't like change and the smallest thing will set them off, omg, she had a lavish party, gold digger, unbecoming, hypocrite, she is trouble etc. Looks over at Prince Charles etc. uh huh, straight arrow that one, not. Even if she followed everything to a T, they would still hound her. You have to be the same, white and follow protocol because being different makes you suspect and she looks different, strike 1 and there is no coming back from that. Walk away and they'll just say, seeeee, she was never right for Harry! You can't win so basically fuck em approach, they should cut and run, none of this wanting the brand shite.

Doeant royalty bring in more than they cost? Maybe things are different in the uk since I bet they have a ton of property to maintain?
you can't put a price on the political stability that having a monarchy offers our country, but you can put a price on an extravagant redecoration job of the central London house that your grandma gave to you

It’s the Queen’s fault. Not putting a picture of Harry‘s family next to Williams was a first class slap in his face. Don’t slap people if you’re not prepared for the echo.

What is the comparison you are making there? What income are you referring to?

I don't think tourism to the UK would cease if we stopped spending millions on the royal family.

Wait... So they want to stop their official duties as Senior members of the Royal Family, but they still want to keep their royal titles? Is that correct?

Well, if the Queen is upset about that and wants them to choose “in or out”, I wouldn’t blame her.

If they want out, then go all the way.

Yeah. They want to carve 'a new role in this institution'. Signed the duke and duchess.

I think she'll tell them in or out too. I think they'll ultimately plump with 'in', but spin something up to save face.

What is this year man I already had enough

Just give me the PS5
Prince Harry with the biggest flex of 2020. Jim Ryan is shook.

You can argue their charity work is good, fronting issues etc. but they own a lot of shit that you could argue would be good for tourism if the public owned it and could visit all year round.

Maybe they want the narrative of being forced out. I would be surprised if they expected the Queen to grant them that as is.

It is odd that they wouldn’t think to consult other family members before making the announcement...

Like, would they really be that aggrieved if they simply said that they’re needing to retire from the spotlight as they want to focus on raising their child?

Fuck, make this a damn reality show!

Most other rich people don’t join the military and serve in Afghanistan.

Give Harry some credits where credits are due.
He volunteered to join an illegal war whilst spouting racist bullshit, I'm giving him no credit. He was there for about 30 weeks and was quite clearly treated differently to other soldiers.
