Greetings, Prince of Persia fans! During our Ubisoft Forward digital conference, we proudly announced Prince's return from Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake. We are excited to be able to put this game in your hands again as we retell the story of Prince and Farah in the amazing 11th century Persia. However, 2020 was a year like no other. Today we would like to inform you that we need more time to complete the game. With that, the release date of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake has been moved to March 18, 2021. We believe this is the right decision to ensure we deliver a game you like. Thank you for your patience and continued support of the Prince of Persia, and we hope you remain safe and healthy during this holiday season. Developer team

Let it bake as long as it needs to please. Even if it has to be delayed again after this. It's looking rough and I want this game to come out good if it's ever going to be used to gauge interest in the series

First major release from their India team right? Talk about throwing them under the bus. Game needs much longer than that.

Companies should just pull a Nintenxo right now and wait until like two months before release to nail down a concrete date. Just give a window and as you get a bit closer narrow it down a bit. Delays were already bad before COVID hit, now it's all a mess.

All Ubisoft games got delayed before like AC and WD, but nothing changed. I don't think anything will change in this one too.

i doubt a two month delay can change much about the look of the game. it can be less buggy at launch, i guess.

Absolutely no one could have seen this coming...

Only surprise is that it's only 2 months. I still think it won't come out until summer at the earliest.

2 months aren't going to make a difference.

They could delay it a bit longer. It looks like it needs more time in the oven. The characters are...not appealing.

Not surprised at all and it prob needs more than 2 months and hopefully they delay it again if needed. I love SoT and want this to be really good.

People saying let it cook, that delay isn't long enough to "fix" anything, it's probably to catch up on what was meant to have been finished by now unfortunately

Any amount of time based delay isn't going to magically "remake" this hot mess, ranging from their low quality character models with godawful animations to an overall subpar presentation, that they tried to damage control by citing engine transition reasons, that won't even qualify as a "remaster" by 2020 standards (see the quality of titles like Gears of War: Ultimate Edition which is almost a borderline remake and runs on the same UE3 that the OG Gears of War ran on, CoD: MW Remastered etc for "remaster" standards), let alone a "remake" (Shadow of the Colossus, Resident Evil 2/3, Demon's Souls etc).

This game, has a legacy among it's fan community and a cult classic with a huge fan following (outside North America) and has done well commercially too.

If they (Ubisoft) even slightly cared about anything regarding this IP other than milking it's consumer base, they would have had the original team in Canada, design/develop this. Most of the core team are still intact, minus a handful of key people like Desilets, and Mechner can provide the same input he's giving here to this current team over video calls, there physically.

They've grown past 3000 people, putting out multiple releases in a single calendar year, for the past decade.

The scope of this apparent "remake" didn't need outsourcing (maybe just for asset creation and testing, like most big pubs do these days) in the first place.

This thing needs more than a delay.

Prince of Persia deserves so much better than this low budget effort. Look at what one person teams can accomplish, this looks like a remastered ps3 game of a remastered ps2 game. The team deserves a real chance.

Not sure this is really going to help what we've seen of the game so far.

I'm excited for it if only to have a modern PC version with controller inputs. I don't really care if it looks bad because well the PS2 version isn't really doing me any favors at the moment. Hope they take the time to put Warrior Within and The Two Thrones remasters/remakes onto PC as well although that's less likely I suppose.

That delay is basically nothing. They're pretty much sending this game out to die. Sands of Time deserves so much more than this, what the hell

Take your time!

How long has it been in development?

... What?
Like 2.5 years. It was never gonna get delayed long enough for a total rehaul. They're just going to polish it up as much as possible.

And, for what it's worth, they released screenshots at the same time as the trailer with much better lighting and improved character models. The trailer was seriously outdated for whatever reason. The screenshots were still not particularly good, but it's still not as bad off as a lot of people in here are saying.

The game wont magically look like a Bluepoint remake but hopefully this will at least fix some of the absurd stuff like completely missing shadows in some of the scenes.

Screenshots of ubisoft games hardly ever represent the actual game. They've done it again and again, hard to get excited that the game actually looks better than the trailer when its Ubisoft.

Yeah something tells me to prepare for disappointment. I think I will hold off for hopefully good reviews or a 5 dollar sale

Looking at these PoP remake screenshots after finishing the Demon's Souls remake just makes me sad. Prince of Persia and Splinter Cell are my all-time favorite game series, Ubisoft would not have been what it is today without them and now they just decided to shit on their legacy like that. There's no way 2 months are going to make this look anything more than "not as terrible as during the initial reveal".

2.5 years for a remake sounds pretty normal to me then.

And hopefully, they'll nail it.
