This is a bit of a catch all thread for a bunch of different genres that always seem to overlap and intermingle.

Stoned Meadow of Doom
The Bong Druid Of Mammoth Weed Mountain

Post what you've been listening to , what you're looking forward to and anything you've always wanted to know about other genres or bands.

I've been listening to Samael a lot lately. Era One while watching the ISS stream chills me the fuck out.

I've been listening to a bit of Beastwars (They're a great Sludge metal band from NZ) ever since I found out the lead singer has been diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins lymphoma.

I went and saw Dillinger live a few weeks ago, wore a Kvelertak shirt and though "wow, I haven't listened to Kvelertak in a while", so I've started listening to them again too.

Oh sorry I tried searching, but couldn't find anything.

Looks like if you search for prog, it shows no results, but progera shows your thread.

Also I love the art that Elder is using for all of their albums and marketing.

There's already a metal thread and that community is pretty small here relative to others. This seems uneecessary

As much as most people here only listen to Prog Metal (which is a shame, since OG Prog Rock has produced a lot better content imo) the full breadth of prog rock is amazingly complex, and forcing it into a "metal" category is asinine.

THIS IS MY FAVORITE METAL ALBUM EVAR....

Half the genres listed in the title are metal sub genres. I don't have a problem with a prog rock thread. I just don't think you should split an already small metal community up between a bunch of threads.

Assume this is a prog rock thread where you can discuss pretentious metal then. I don't think we're splitting anything here since we had an active prog thread on (the site that shall not be named) that coexisted fine with the metal thread. And nothing against metal listeners, but metal fans are inherently interested in much different things then prog fans.

I was sitting at a bar yesterday and the raddest fucking song was playing, and when it got to the breakdown at the end I asked the bartender what it was since it was his playlist and he said Elder- Gemini. I need to know of more bands that sound like them because I'm halfway thru the album now (Dead Roots Stirring) and I fuckin' LOVE it. I mostly listen to rap/hip-hop but grew up on all types of stuff and this is like modern day Sabbbath or something.

Going into the metal thread to discuss Banco Del Mutuo Soccorso, the new Wobbler, or whatever the hell Omar Rodriguez-Lopez is doing would be weird, yes.

Gonna be doing a Halloween special on my program tonight (airing 10pm to 1am EST): https://www.iheart.com/live/wmsc-7091/

Hell yes. I lurk the metal thread, but this probably works better for me because I'm more of a stoner/psych guy myself. :P

Here's a few albums I'm playing listening to these days:
All Them Witches - Sleeping Through The War
Elder - Reflections of a Floating World
King Buffalo - Orion
Elephant Tree - s/t

And my goto work playlist is literally everything by Colour Haze.

Gotta admit, I love "classic" prog, but I could never get into contemporary stuff. I dunno, maybe it's the overproduction of it all. Or maybe when it turns too close to metal. I really like the progressive stuff bands can do with traditional instruments (Yes is up there with my favorite bands of all time).

Anyways, caught The Black Angels pretty recently. Pretty good show.

Communic finally released a new album after six years. For those that have no idea who this band is, they're essentially a more progressive version of Nevermore (some say better vocals too).

It's really hard to find modern bands that don't over produce that much just due to the amount of production that exists. Try listening to that motorpsycho album I posted a little bit farther back. It's got a full orchestra on board and has some ludicrously awesome instrumentals as well.

Been listening to the Causa Sui live album that came out this year and it's fucking insane. Would really love to see them live.

Also I cannot recommend this album enough

The Heavy Eyes are a pretty good blues-rock/psych/stoner/ act, if y'all haven't heard of them. They kind of got a Cage the Elephant thing going on, but the songs are a lot heavier/fuzzier.

Here's their latest:
He Dreams of Lions

Anyone here listen to Ty Segall and/or Fuzz?
They've got a double I just bought on Vinyl.
II by Fuzz

EDIT: Oh, yeah Samsara is awesome. Their latest album is pretty great.

I thought they didn't exist any longer. Have to look into it!
Edit: Just listened to the new song. I feel like I have heard the melody of the vocals a hundred times from them.

It sounds about as repetitive as Payment of Existence, and their first two albums (especially the second) are still their best. At least it's better than their last album anyway, especially instrumentally.

Cool thread. It does seem like a lot of bands in this thread overlap with metal but so many also really don't so makes sense to separate it.

All Them Witches is a great band.

I haven't checked "Reflections" yet but I listen to Elder's Lore a lot.

Been listening to Hulk Smash's 2nd album recently. I don't know how I got their first cd with a bunch of bonus stuff but forgot about them for years and then stumbled upon Deer.

I believe someone posted this on the other site, but this shit is too good of a catch to not be transferred here:

Also, new program of my show tonight at 10pm to 1am EST streaming on iHeartRadio. Will be doing something special in honor of both Greg Lake's and Keith Emerson's birthdays.

Pretty fun album. Definitely had some problems with mixing though, and had a few rough patches. Pretty great moments throughout though
