"Progressive Hero" Cenk Uygur, Gatekeeper to the Land Lefteros, dismayed that Megyn Kelly got fired

I do generally agree with the politics on TYT and their priorities- getting money out of politics, addressing income inequality, expanding the social safety net, leftist positions on LGBT rights, criminal justice reform, and so on. They are better on these issues than most of the left and much better than the liberal mainstream media outlets like MSNBC and CNN.
That's because MSNBC and CNN do not promote liberal issues or talking points ever.

I stopped watching them but when I did I loved Ana and wished she was just there alone. Cenk was an annoying buffoon and I remember so many times Ana looked annoyed as fuck sitting beside him.

This is a weird post. Precisely as what?
I'd say it directly but there's currently a Moderator Directive to quit jerking ourselves off about how persecuted we were two years ago, so use your imagination.

problems like what? Jimmy Dore? TYT is not one person...persons tend to have different opinions.
I realize that you're more interested in continuing to watch your particular Confirmation Bias Network than actually addressing anything in good faith, but continuing to platform Jimmy Dore is literally Cenk's fault

I don't always agree with Cenk or Bill Maher but In some ways that makes me appreciate them even more as entertainers. It certainly doesn't make them fraudulent progressives.

TYT is run by Cenk. Platforming Dore falls on him.
Jimmy Dore is an idiot, but CNN hires and regularly hosts far, far, far worse than him and people don't give them anywhere near as much crap unless an editorial comes titled "Will the blue wave be a disappointment?"
You are 100% wrong, CNN and Zucker are trashed all the time for this. You just dont notice it as much because you dont like them.

CNN doesn't call itself a progressive news station and try to act like arbiters of what it means to be a leftist...

Side note I've actually made more threads says taking NYT to task than TYT so lol.

The unnuanced hatred for TYT on this forum is always mindblowing.

It's totally fair to not enjoy them, and yet, they're one of the few if not the only news organization sometimes holding politicians accountable and covering key issues.

Did you see major news outlets covering water protectors protestors when they were getting mawled by dogs?

How about their coverage of the water crisis?

Are mainstream outlets regularly talking about climate change, student debt, the private prison complex, and political corruption?

If you strongly dislike what TYT does because of their politics, you should take a strong internal look at yourself. Maybe you're a part of the problem.

What if you think both TYT and CNN/MSNBC/NYT are trash

Not liking TYT doesn't mean implicit support of the mainstream media. The mainstream media is also terrible and isn't actually about news, it's about controversy and hot takes and politics as a sport

I personally only pay attention to, like, three people across all four of these networks/papers - two of them are statisticians and the third got clowned on for a tax returns story two years ago

Totally fine to be unhappy with all of them. But as I pointed out, TYTs existence is currently filling a void.

No TYT. Less exposure on those issues.

I think the topic to criticize Uygurs opinion on this totally legitimate . But look at the title. And then look at the thread . There's no discussion about the actual topic. It's just a senseless discussion free bashing thread.

Cuomo, Jake Trapper, and Cooper all handled themselves shamefully during 2016. And they all get a pass here. I'll never forget going from the Democratic Debate where Cooper asked real questions towards both candidates, to the next day where Cooper was literally asking Ted Cruz "how much do you love your wife. I hear you're good at impressions." and Rubio "I hear you like EDM" and another 2 hours of fluff questions for the republicans.

Jimmy Dore just has different opinions.

Like 9/11:
Why would you need to shame people who question the government's view of what happened on 9/11? So that's what makes me suspect. They call them truthers. They name them so you can dismiss them. As soon as you ask a question about 9/11 they go "oh, you're a truther."
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=87tq5hOZg8I&t=19m9s
Well there is no explanation for that and everyone just pretends like you're a maniac. It's that same shit. It's like the big lie. Has a building, has a steel structure, fallen since from fire? Since 9/11? No. Guess what? None ever fell before either. And Building 7 fell and it wasn't hit by fucking anything.
(around the 18 minute mark)
https://archive.is/https://mobile.twitter.com/jimmy_dore/status/410470134801653760

Or his thoughts about the murder of Seth Rich:
How about all those people who gave a shit just for covering an actual news story, the Seth Rich story, all those people who gave a shit like we're some kind of conspiracy theorist. And what has MSNBC been doing? Pushing a fucking conspiracy non-stop for over a year. Where's the Washington Post article about that? Oh, they only write articles about right-wingers who are actually onto something.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hok1ilVqG5c&t=6m13s

And someone else can go on if they want.

I'm not disputing that TYT is bringing light to issues, that's good work. But it doesn't absolve TYT of the problematic parts of their organization, and that's what makes it troubling. I do think there are other liberal organizations that bring light to these same issues that TYT does without the baggage. Vox would probably be the first one that comes to mind for me

Then how about you critize any perceived actual issues? I don't see what a hosts opinion on a single issue has to do with any broader issues.

Tyt has a far wider reach than vox.

Not only do Cuomo, Tapper, and Cooper get a pass, but I see liberals, even here, hailing them as heroes for opposing Trump. To that I say, get the fuck outta here. CNN was a huge part of why Trump was elected. Cuomo, Tapper, and Anderson Cooper are not fucking allies. Don Lemon, who people played up for his criticism of Kanye's adoration of the president, isn't a fucking ally.

I mean we had people on the left who expressed affection for George W. Bush because he opposed Trump!

Goldfish-level memory for some people.

That's because MSNBC and CNN do not promote liberal issues or talking points ever.
I don't think this is true necessarily. I think the problem is more that, when they do promote liberal issues, they do it in a "both sides" way and include some nasty, hate-filled conservative counterpoint "for balance". It's a constant equidistance fallacy and this is the best we get from the so-called "liberal mainstream media". So I do find value in what TYT does, even though I strongly disagree with them on points.

TYT definately isn't a leftist channel. They're a little further left than the average liberal that's it.
Yes i am aware, hence my really really sarcastic thread title (I had more but character limits oppress my creativity) . They definitely act like they are though, and some of their viewers definitely act like they are.

What's funny is that the people that are most to the left on Tyt are the people that resetera hates the most.

Shows you how many centrists there are on this forum perfectly happy with the pre Trump status quo.

Uygur definitely acknowledges he is not the most left on the network. In fact compared to other hosts he's like third most from center.

So your deliberate smear is just odd.

Goldfish memory: Wow, CNN handles things terribly from time to time, but they did a good job on this particular thing so we should give them some faint praise.

Not goldfish memory: Sure, one of the prominent people is a 9/11 conspiracy truther who peddled Seth Rich conspiracy stuff, and the main guy denied (denies?) the Armenian genocide, but whatever.

Specifically, that void is "what if I support socialism but think feminism is bad and racism is no big deal?"
Sorry, but I don't think you are actually in tune with TYTs actual coverage and the views of their hosts. Not even close... :/

They're actually probably the opposite of your characterization.

That a guy who subscribed to and would not directly disavow a conspiracy theory has no issue platforming a guy peddling conspiracy theories isn't surprising.

The reason TYT as a whole gets crap is because TYT IS Cenk. It's his baby.

Saw this but debated whether or not it was worth sharing with anybody. We're all on board with the fact that Cenk and TYT are a collection of jackasses, right?
I'm definitely on board. They can be right sometimes, but they REALLY come off as whining douchebags. Especially Cenk. And that's not what i personally want to hear. I want a fight. Not babies.

These people get shit on all the time here. It's not 100 percent across the board; some posters are harsher on them than others, some are more likely to praise them than others. Usually they'll get shit on when they deserve it and praised for when they deserve it. Which I think is exactly the kind of treatment that people in here are arguing TYT should be receiving too?

Well that's what I mean. I don't consider that kind of constant, useless panel discussions to be a meaningful promotion of liberal policy positions. Outlets like Vox or Crooked are what I'd consider to be actual 'liberal media.'

I was talking about tyt hosts specifically. If there are regular hosts further left, then I admit my ignorance.
I mean, my whole point here is that Dore is a clown peddling in conspiracies to the detriment of the entire network's credibility more than he's genuinely left

You don't see people clowning on Current Affairs, Jacobin, or most of The Intercept (Greenwald himself being the notable exception) to nearly this extent and they're arguably further left on average

Jesus the vitriol in this thread towards TYT is surprising. Yeah Jimmy Dore is a shithead and Cenk can have bad takes sometimes but acting like the whole organization is poison is not a nuanced take.

Many of their reporters are competent people and they can talk about the issues pretty well. They had Kyle Kulinski a few days ago and Cenk, Ana and him had interesting discussions. TYT has flaws and I wouldnt say that they are an excellent news source but they are certainly better than the rest of mainstream media.

If you think folks at TYT don't actually take actual, you're grossly misinformed. They've started an organization to get money out of politics and have achieved resolutions in 5 or so states. They were involved in the founding of Justice Democrats. They interview progressive candidates after their main show almost every day ahead of primaries and elections (no one else is doing this!!).

There are legitimate criticisms you may have. But that characterization is grossly inaccurate.
