Praise the gun. Just finished Remnant. So good. 18 hours total including some optional bosses. Great coop game, intense from beginning to the end. Some of the best boss fights for any shooter. Puts Destiny to shame in that department.

Played to the first boss of FFVII Remake and really enjoyed what I played so far, despite having never played the original.

So I thought I'd do it right and bought the original game on Switch and have played up to where I believe the Remake ends.
Leaving Midgar after the Motorcycle chase, right?

Should I see the original FFVII through to the end? I'm definitely enjoying it, but am eager to jump into the remake, especially while the Midgar section of the original is still so fresh in my mind. I know the remake messes with the timeline and differs from the original in some key ways. Am I robbing myself of some of those reveals by just jumping over now?
See it through! It's absolutely worth it for a variety of reasons, and will only improve your experience with the remake.

Put me in the camp of loving it so far as well. Once the combat starts to make sense, oh boy. The music is incredible so many feels from the old game. They have really done a stellar job with everything.

For people playing FF7R and finding it “slow and sluggish”, please stick with it. It’s one of the best RPG combat systems I’ve ever experienced (if not “the”). It’s a brilliant balance between action, strategy, and team management — anything but slow, sluggish, or boring when you get the hang of it (and unlock a few moves/materia).

Get really comfortable with using shortcuts, they make the combat so much more fluid and immediate. And as others have said, switch characters often. I tended to “main” a character for a time, but still constantly switched to others to charge their ATB, use abilities, and exploit weaknesses.

There are some things about managing your team that can feel frustrating (their ATB charges so slow, they literally never use abilities unless you command it, the player character draws like 75% of the aggro basically always), but it’s all meant to encourage you not to play it like a character action game. It’s fast-paced action no doubt, but layered on top of thoughtful, team-based strategy.

Although, I mean, in simple fodder battles, you’re not really gonna need to swap or strategize — you can clean up shop in 60 seconds without entering the action menu. But that’s the equivalent of jamming Attack to get through a weak random encounter in the original.

I’m playing FF7 remake on a base PS4 and the game looks incredible. Sometimes I feel like a cutscene has to be prerendered but nope.

Played remnant and about to drop the game. Got to a boss or whatever that thing is and can’t figure out how to beat this mf. 😒

It keeps sending out these lil monsters and chasing me and I can’t hurt em😆. What is this crap?
Gorefist, eh? I hated that fucker but not as much as the little infected guys. I was finally on-track to nailing him (use the room with the columns, and just focus on the little guys when you hear them start screaming) but I discovered that the SMG is obtainable in Ward 13 as soon as you start the game. I went back and got it, upgraded, and man, Gorefist went down after a couple of attempts.

Does FFVII get better after the first couple of hours? The dialogue ain't doing it for me, and I'm already sick of the gratuitous camera shots of Tifa's boobs.

Absolutely, especially when you spend more time with Aerith, she's really funny (playing in japanese, don't know if the english VA nailed her as well).

I think the dialogue can be very hit or miss at times, sometimes I'm cringing, others I'm laughing. But overall it's definitely a good time.

Side-quests are quite basic in terms of plot, and some of them are just fetch quests gameplay wise, but others have new types of enemies to fight and usually the rewards are pretty decent.

Also the combat keeps getting better and better the more you play.

Seeking confirmation: If I redeem the free PS Plus version of VII, and then later purchase the PS4 version, will I be able to get the PS5 upgrade free?

You would with a physical copy. With digital you'll be locked out from buying the base PS4 version unless they decide to treat it as a unique version since it won't let you upgrade to the PS5 version. You can buy other digital editions though.

has anyone been able to buy without desuscribing plus (speaking with sony I guess)?

Is Remnant worth playing solo?
Very worth it. However, there are couple bosses that are designed for two or more players.

One of the final bosses, I struggled with my friend for 2 hours straight. Only beat it once another player joined.

On my second playthrough now; Rerolled campaign. This game, man.

Cool, thanks, I’m sure that has been asked a thousand times it would be helpful to have that information in the OP.

So how many millions of dollars went into FFVII production, just to be such a mess in the audio department?

teammates speak but I can’t hear them (or even myself for that matter) but I can hear a dozen npcs screaming their lungs out at the same time while I’m walking past them, making absolutely no sense of any conversation they’re having.
Sound effects are very metallic and irritating most of the time too, the explosions I’ve heard so far are the kind that have no low end to them, just screeching noises.

I wonder how an AAA game can be released like this with no one pointing out “eh that kinda sounds like shit”.

Music is beautiful though, that’s for sure

Finished the campaign for Remnant and did a few runs in Adventure mode with a friend. Had a blast although I didn't find the rewards from the boss fights that great personally. Mostly stuck with the same weapons and armor for most of the game except for a few fights. Bosses were challenging and fun. Some do spawn an army of mobs with them which made the fights annoying. Probably will playthrough the campaign again to spawn some new bosses and upgrade my gear fully.

As someone who was not even remotely interested in Remnant, and was pushed to try it out because of my friends, it was a pleasant surprise. Remnant has a lot of uniqueness and does some really cool things with coop. It is a lower budget title sure, with some "quirks," but it's all I've been playing lately and I thoroughly recommend it as a coop title. The locales are really varied, and usually these indie titles are trying to ape other, more popular games, but Remnant does a good job of establishing itself as its own thing, with its own presence. There are a lot of issues with difficulty tuning though, and balance, so I wouldn't recommend playing solo. It's not every day playing a game puts a dev on my radar, but I'm really interested to see what Gunfire games do in future. I do think a bit more playtesting, polishing and balancing could make their next game a must-play.
I've been playing it solo on normal for the first couple hours and I can see why it's a more coop thing. Enemies can just be relentless and while it hasn't been too overly difficult yet it's still kind of a slog to go through which I assume gets alleviated by having a team with you.

One thing I still haven't been able to grasp in FF7 R is guarding > dodging. Probably because most other action games/RPGs have trained me to dodge roll all the time.

Man, the combat in FF7R is...well, not good...at all. That first boss fight is just plain stupid.
Because you probably don't know anything yet...

The combat is actually one of the best parts of the game. We're all blessed that they knocked it out of the park because now we have a strong meat and bones combat system that will be the base for every game going forward. They absolutely killed it. Whether you want to play it more like a light-ARPG or revamped turn based ATB style game, it blows every other FF game out of the water... especially FFXV...

Played Maquette for all of ten minutes before getting motion sick and having to lie down. Playing around with the FOV didn't help. Does anyone have any tips for the motion sick to play the game?

Nice...

Looks like I have a convince a group of people to play this with me. It's the kind of TPS co-op game that I never knew that I needed... on PS. I enjoyed playing Gears of War back co-op back in the day and I may enjoy this more because of the whole challenge and loot element.

Is there any benefit to playing FF7R on PS5 since the PS5 update is kinda blocked by another game version?

The game suffers from heavy stutter and I almost never get motion sick and it still bothered me. Not much can be done unless they patch it.

Same here. It's interesting but it could use some balance and polish in the early parts of the game.

Yeah, you're talking about Gorefist.

That fight has two pretty simple tricks to it:

When Gorefist charges at you with his sword run at him and dodge roll forward. The timing is really generous, you'll go right through unharmed.

Gorefist will glow and summon the exploding mushroom things. Don't even bother stopping to shoot or melee them. They make a really distinct noise right before they explode. When you hear it, dodge roll away and you'll avoid all damage.

Do both of those consistently, and keep plinking at the boss with whatever gun you have and he'll go down. The fight never gets any harder so you just have to be consistent with your dodges and you'll win.

Fuck, Sony is not including FFVII remake in my country's PS+ games (Lebanon).
They removed the game completely from the store and only FFVII intergrade is present.

That seems weird. Integrade is PS5 only. I can't imagine that they stopped selling the game to PS4 owners.

Remnant has been a surprising amount of fun. On normal difficulty it's the perfect turn off your brain coop game you can have a few beers and zone out with some buddies online.

On the higher difficulties it's a legitimately challenging experience.

Me and my buddies just got to
Rhom
last night.

So wait.

I downlaoded the PS+ version of FF7R, but that version isn't eligible for the upgrade? So... I have to delete it and then buy it to get the free upgrade? Am I reading that right?

Redeeming the PS+ version of FF7R gives you only the PS4 version and it locks you out of purchasing the base digital version which would be both PS4 and PS5. You can however buy a different digital edition still whether that be the Deluxe Edition of FF7R or the Integrade version which has the DLC bundled with it. You can also buy a physical disc which will give you both the PS4 and PS5 version too.

Man, Remnant is driving me insane. I made it to what I assume is supposed to be the first boss, but my weapons do utterly trivial damage to him and every time I hit him he spawns a bunch of demon pus bag enemies to swarm me and blow up in my face, causing me to die instantly. And if I run away from him for more than a few seconds, all the damage I did to him fucking regenerates.

I really don't understand how this game is supposed to be fun. Did I somehow go the wrong way and wind up somewhere I'm not supposed to be yet?

Due to this giveaway, the resale value of FF7 Disc version is going to be in the toilet in a couple months. Probably best to just buy a used copy for cheap and use that to get a cheap upgrade.
