How someone can stand for pedophilia in games is beyond me

At least try to hide those creepy tastes

The response is awkwardly worded but the sentiment is sound--"Why is this cut out when it wasn't in previous games?" "If this game were the exact same as previous games, there'd be no point in buying it. Since it's different, there may have been a change to that specific mode in this iteration that made it something more important to cut. For specifics, please follow up with the publisher."

The wording is bad, and they should probably train reps to not even try with basic broad-base logical guesses as to why something happened in the face of fan rage, but the core of the statement tracks.
The point they're trying to make, "that we didn't censor it before doesn't mean we won't censor it now", is valid, but the wording is terrible and will put Playstation under a lot of heat

The catsuit fights and especially the telephone mini game are entering a gray territory. It might be fine now but who nows how Sony thinks later.
That's different.
If those minigames were banned then Sony would need to ban Witcher 3 too because that game has much more lewd content.

The Yakuza Mini Games portrays women of age and not teenagers like this game. The two couldn't be compared.

The hostess mode in Yakuza is for of age women, and hardly the same as this

https://youtu.be/A4nT1RlCr9w

Which is like a straight up molestation simulator. Not to mention the young characters.

One can comment on Yakuza's sexualization and still think the above is a whole new level of "what the fuck is wrong with some of you?".

edit: Even tho its from YT, unembedded the above video
I absolutely love Senran but those modes are dumb. Don't really mind they removed it. I'm just scared for other games and content.

Should have just taken it all the way and say they don't want a mode that depicts sexually assualting underaged girls and watch responses cry and stutter about "censorship" without context or nuance of said mode as if it's get out of jail free card for a rebuttle.

Why is he asking a employee or sector of the company that has nothing to do with this? Lol.
The employee messed up by giving their opinion and should have continued directing him to the ones in charge of this stuff

It will, but it shouldn't. A lot will depend on how this is being relayed to people, I guess--Twitter account uses dumb wording to make obvious statement isn't very flashy, and it being passed along with a tl;dr that puts it in more plain terms would likely go nowhere.

But this is the internet and I assume there are SK subreddits of angry fans being directed to a tweet proving Playstation doesn't care about the freedom of speech of devs or whatever so it'll be a thing. Just, there's not a lot of there there to be actually angry at.

And what if as I just told you it's the groping of young characters that are the main issue here? Because if that is in other games maybe it should be removed too.

We see plenty of sex in games, and nudity, such as TW3 brought up earlier in this topic. Why do some of you need to have young girls in those situations?

Seems the series might have got too close to the "Not a porn game but really wants to be a porn game" line much like DOAX.

The reason for the censorship of this game and cancellation of Omega Labyrinth Z is because of the groping minigames, which couldn't be removed from the latter as it's a crucial part of the game and not something optional like in this one. Sony's western division seems to have a new policy that specifically doesn't allow this anymore, so I wouldn't worry about other stuff being censored.

They're not wrong. If you've seen one little-girl molestation simulator, you've seen them all.

I hope so. Would be sad if we went back to the Yakuza 3 days (I know Sega cut the content)

The quality of the answer made me chuckle for sure, but at the same time I'm Sony's side on this issue. I felt gross just watching that "gameplay" footage.

Don't worry about it, sega only cut content due to then thinking the west wouldn't like some of the side quests so they didn't localized everything because it would be cheaper.

Yakuza 4 and onward brought the full experience due to the fans complaining. It definitely wasn't due to censorship.

The twitter response is fine. Games change, policies change, if you want to be intimate with girls go play the previous games I guess? This is basically what the response is

I don't even understand why the response is bad? Sure it doesn't make a whole lot of sense, but its basically a generic non-answer. Why would you expect anything more from whoever is running their twitter account? Its not like they are the CEO of iTunes or something.

It sounds like a random response from a low level employee that isn't all that familiar with the situation. Don't read too much into anything.

Pretty much this. Of course, the folks mad that "Intimacy Mode" is being "censored" will just lash out at this support employee who don't know the full situation.

Sony just shot themselves in the foot.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about anime culture (I'm an expert), but honor and shame are huge parts of it. It's not like it is in the real world where you can become successful by being an asshole. If you screw anime fans over, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.

What this means is the anime public, after hearing about this, is not going to want to purchase Senran Kagura on that system, nor will they purchase any of Sony's games. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Sony has alienated an entire market with this move.

Sony, publicly apologize and uncensor Senran Kagura for PS4 or you can kiss your business goodbye.

"Support grunts" should not be freehanding incoherent responses on social media, unless your company has no fucking clue what it's doing.

I don't actually give a flying shit about Senran Kagura or whatever the censorship debate is here, but this is just terrible optics for PS to allow agents to write tweets that are this poorly composed. A simple "We can't comment on individual review cases, please contact the publisher for more information" would have sufficed.
It speaks miles to how relevant this 'controversy' is, that Sony didn't even bother giving their team a canned response for it.

Or the PC version. This isn't an Omega Labyrinth situation, the game actually is coming out here intact, just not on consoles.

This is such bullshit.

"Anime culture?" What even is that? There are a whole host of different types of anime, with genres that don't even overlap each other in any regard other than the fact that they're Japanese animation. This game is for a small group of people, not representative of everyone who watches anime.

I'm generally against censorship, but my dude you can still buy the game on Steam if you really care about this issue so much.

Maybe they shouldn't let a support person say stuff they don't know about and make the whole company look bad, that statement kinda reads of someone that hasn't touched a videogame in their life.
The only people who look bad here are the chodes whinging and clamouring for it to be put back in. It highlights just how manchildren they are by not understanding people and companies change their minds on what they think is acceptable.

Porn isn't illegal, but underage sexualization is. So, I think Yakuza would be fine.

If it was illegal, the PC version wouldn't be coming out here intact. This has nothing to do with legality or even with the rating boards as the ESRB accepted the game without changes, it's specifically a policy change on Sony's part.

and good on Sony for that.

Seriously, what is literally the issue of those who bemoan this change? That the PS4 version isn't the same as Steam or that they can't do those seriously creepy and disturbing stuff to underage anime avatars?

Are the girls really underage? Do we know if this is precisely the issue or just the groping mini game in general? Were they underage in Omega Labyrinth?

Likely just an absolutist anti-censorship stance based on principle than anything else. Something that harkens back to the 90s and early aughts when stuff was needlessly censored.

The thing is that mindset is pretty damn common among the people that play these kinds of games, so it's pretty likely that the Steam version will blow the PS4 version out of the water in terms of sales. I doubt Xseed is happy about this or the policy change either. I can see Switch end up being the main console for stuff like this going forward thanks to the Sony policy change.

Definitely a grown woman.

The groping mini-game is bad enough given you can slap in it and so on, but obviously, character age and young depictions make it even creepier/paedophilic.
