Worst Major version tick ever.
Meanwhile my PS3 still can't clear the error message on boot about downloaded items and I can't transfer apps to my Vita or PSP while 2-Factor is enabled.

At the very least these firmware updates are graphic driver updates as well. On PC people go batshit for AMD and Nvidia updates, but on console, maybe because it is less talked about, people just seem to think the team does nothing but random shit all the time.
The PS4 OS is pretty nice now to be honest. I don't have any major needs except getting every ounce of performance they can for the Pro. And updates to graphics for older non-Pro games like Xbox does it would be very cool.
People go apeshit for gfx updates on PC because they're bugfixes that boost performance. Basically what AMD and Nvidia do is coordinate with major game devs, and Nvidia's own developers will rewrite sections of code to fix shaders and crap like that. So the drivers you download include a TON of game-specific fixes. It's also why games work better on one platform or another. Because THOSE gfx devs went in and patched the issues themselves, outside of the actual game developers.
They shouldn't be but that's not the case now lol. That is the same thing Sony devs would be doing. Firmware updates should be no different on consoles.
Sony are already doing this. It's called "first party" :pThey shouldn't be but that's not the case now lol.
Sony is doing this the lazy way because they know they don't need to do anything to keep selling.
since nobody talked about this one of the wishlist that never happens:
- psone and psp games on ps4
- and all ps2 catalog available without trophy support
and why not vita games support
They shouldn't be but that's not the case now lol.

Anyone else in NA get an email saying you're in but never got the console notification?
Restart your ps4 or log out then back in that worked for meAnyone else in NA get an email saying you're in but never got the console notification?

I did that a couple days ago and it didn't work but this time it did. Weird.
As stated before in other threads the PS4 has the right lasers to read music CDs.We know the PS4 can't read music CDs but would that rule out PSOne CDs? I still have my entire PSOne collection and would like to play them on the PS4 if they could run on it.
I got the console notification but I am unable to download the beta. It just says that I have the latest firmware This was yesterday.
I agree with you. We need a rating system fixed right now. My brother get a game and don't like, but he don't see any form of rate the game for future buyers.I know it's petty but what's really annoying is that Sony has yet to fix their rating and like system on the PS Store. Rating system stopped working months ago (all new games still have "No ratings") and the like system broke a week ago. It looks very unprofessional especially when the PS division just pulled in over 700 million dollars in profit last quarter.
Did you press X when the notification was opened? It applies the voucher there in order to download the beta.
Here's hoping they add an online status for using media apps. When I'm watching HBO Go it still shows everyone I'm playing whatever game was suspended.
I'm actually eager to know if this streamlines background downloading a bit. I've seen resource creep from that impacting a couple of my themes.
It's not a very good workaround, but you can set your display status to "offline" if your friends are sending you game invites etc. because they think you're still playing that game. Here's hoping they add an online status for using media apps. Some developers use the strangest incremental name changes to updates or firmware. Why name it a major number increase if it isn't containing anything major, as that is what incremental numbering is suppose to indicate.
I still think it will have features they're not willing to put in beta yet. Some developers use the strangest incremental name changes to updates or firmware. Why name it a major number increase if it isn't containing anything major, as that is what incremental numbering is suppose to indicate.
It's not all about you lol. Some developers use the strangest incremental name changes to updates or firmware. Why name it a major number increase if it isn't containing anything major, as that is what incremental numbering is suppose to indicate.
Oh very much understand that but when presented to the consumer front a rounded number or a halfway number typical means significant upgrades or changes. Obviously that may very well be the case for under the hood but it still appears to consumers and that at this stage is nothing despite going from 5.x to 6.0.It's not all about you lol.
Early in PS3 life, we used to pay close attention to SDK updates - since they would often provide more available ram and extra features to devs.
But those features/extra wouldn't be available in a retail game until the corresponding PS3 firmware update was pushed out to systems at a later date.
But it didn't impact existing games immediately. Only games (re)compiled on the SDK would benefit from the extra memory, and be able to support the extra features.
Likely this update supports upcoming software releases.
I'm in the beta and I can confirm that Remote Play works, as I just tried it this morning. However, I don't have a PSVR so I cannot speak to that.Does this beta firmware block Remote Play? Or require PSVR update?
Major version increase, zero new features. That not how versions are supposed to work!
Says who? There were minor version increases in some firmwares that have significant added features.
Zero new features doesnt necessarily mean features for the end user. There could be a bigger overhaul "under the hood" for example. I have my doubts that theres zero changes for the end user though.Major version increase, zero new features. That not how versions are supposed to work!
this is silly. They shouldn't be but that's not the case now lol.

Wrong.Major version increase, zero new features. That not how versions are supposed to work!
Wrong.
Major releases introduce "breaking" changes, these don't need to be new features, these don't need to be front-facing either.
Breaking change doesn't mean it will make games break. It could be using a completely new API that isn't supported on older firmwares.I don't think it works that way on PS4. They can't introduce changes that would make old games stop working or whatever. So I don't see what such a breaking change would be.

Go do some reading about semantic versioning, and maybe a little bit of software development while you're at it. The link I provided shows that breaking changes should be reflected in a bump of the major version, but that's not enough for you.

What you and others are mistaking is that the version number is not a signal to consumers to expect fireworks.Oh very much understand that but when presented to the consumer front a rounded number or a halfway number typical means significant upgrades or changes. I'm in software development, and we do use semantic versioning, thanks. A breaking change means that an API is no longer backwards-compatible with old versions of an app (for example). The "app" would be games on the PS4 I guess? So if this new firmware didn't introduces changes that break games that haven't been updated, how is it a breaking change?
