Lol I can give a damn about something so trivial like crossplay on a petty game like Fortnite. As long as Sony continue to deliver amazing story driven exclusives, I’ll always be primarily PlayStation.

The OP posed a simple question so if people dont care they are automatically labeled as "warriors". You do realize that there are millions who either dont even realize what cross-play is or simply dont care cause it has no effect on their gaming hobby? Just because YOU believe it's a massive issue that is deserving of Sony to go down in flames doesnt mean the majority shares in that opinion. Cause I can guarantee you, no matter how many tweets or threads get started to make it appear like this is a huge issue it is NOT a huge issue, plain and simple.
No, I meant what if only Playstation fans voted, people who actually own a PS4 and not other systems warriors who see this thread as a good opportunity to further their agenda.

As someone who is looking at getting a next gen console, knowing that I can play games like Minecraft with my Son if I own a Xbox "next" with one of us on the Switch, is a huge plus for me. Rocket League, even Fortnite, and games like these in general... That makes a huge difference to me. I would absolutely rather get a PS5 for the exclusives, but then again, I can play Red Dead in 4K on my next Xbox, so that might be the way to go... I do have other options to weigh though, a future more powerful Switch, a HTPC or PS5 if they allow crossplay next gen, are better for my needs than a new gen Xbox, although I expect Xbox to have the performance edge next gen.

Let's be real, very few people who are mad at Sony for not having crossplay are dumping their PS4s. It's like that boycott Call of Duty gif that gets posted. They'll talk the talk but won't walk the walk.

I don't own a PS4 or PS4 Pro, just making that clear.

The OP asks if it effects my future buying options, and it does. I wouldn't mind buying a Playstation. I own a powerful PC and can play multiplats there, I own a Switch and can play Nintendo games and indie games there... I have a raspberry pi for my mediacenter / some retro gaming... I wouldn't mind replacing that with a Playstation 5 for it's exclusives, but not if it won't play nice with my Switch, the other options become more appealing, no agenda in that, just my honest opinion.

Your choice should not be between getting many exclusives, and playing with many friends. You have a chance to be on the right side of gaming history. Who will need to choose whats right. You can pick getting many exclusives, but one day, Sony will develop a version of Gran Turismo which costs 60 euro but will be built like a free to play game with aimless grinding and loot-boxes. Not only that, they will make a 100 euro version where you only need to grind half as much. When that day comes you will realise you have no more good exclusives, and your friends will be playing on Xbox anyway.
Or maybe Sony will never stop producing great exclusives and maybe your friends will buy Playstation again, then you could end up with no friends, and zero to no good exclusives.

If you choose Xbox, it might not be the best choice with regards to the exclusives which you desire, it might not even be the platform that your friends will want to invest in again. But it would still be the right choice. Forget the past; Microsoft is a pro-consumer company now. I wish we could say the same about Sony, with their BS, anti-consumer account locking shenanigans :-(
I don't know if I should laugh or cry?
It seems MS is your best friend and Sony is the evil tyrant. If MS are so pro consumer could you ask them nicely to let you play online for free for an entire gen? Surely caretaker MS will listen because it's so pro consumer.

Sorry for not being more obvious but it was meant as a satirical take on how most Xbox fans view the whole situation.

Please don’t come to my nightclub I have no ties to the Russian mob, nor did I ever harm any puppies (as pets I prefer cars but don’t hold that against me) :-D

Shame on you because you have different standards towards Sony and other publishers. EA, Bungie, Activision, Rockstar don’t support crossplay. Why don’t you stop playing their games?

Think it twice and stop your childish action please.

Hopefully Sony change their stance on some of these seemingly stupid decisions (locking of third party accounts being the biggest issue), but if they keep releasing the exclusive content I love and a decent box to play them on I'm not going to deprive myself because of them.
I'd say the vast majority of PS4 owners feel exactly the same.

Exactly, and you can not blame them.

Never really care for cross play, I think it's a small issue from the beginning, but some people love to paddle the idea to make it seemed bigger than it actually is. Moreover, cross play works only for multiplayer, and I don't play that many multiplayer. Maybe Monster Hunter: World, but then again, PS4 userbase is the largest, so no problem on that part.

If PS4 exclusives are any indication to what's in the store for PS5, I don't see how people will risk not playing those games just to be in protest of cross play. You can take that Minecraft cross play between XBOX and Switch any day, while I'm here busting skull and taking names in God of War.

It will be more interesting to look back on this thread once crossplay becomes the standard, which it definitely will. Sony best get on the right side of this issue now.

Sure, I'll buy an Xbox with no worthwhile exclusives because they offer crossplay with a few Switch players. Sure.

I tend to be a late buyer of consoles each gen. I will buy the console that gives me the best gaming experience once the dust settles. Sony will have better exclusives, but MS is looking to try to fix it next gen probably. MS will allow for better multiplayer experiences, but Sony can change their anti-consumer policy and instantly fix that. Both carry about equal weight in my mind.

Sony's policy won't be THE deciding factor in my next console, but it absolutely will be A deciding factor.

It won't impact my choice, as I focus on singleplayer games. Online multiplayer isn't an interest of me.

I play online quite often, especially big on Battlefield. I dont want them to integrate crossplay. MS is on the verge of bridging the divide between PC and Xbox One, no sane console gamer with Playstations would want to play crossplay if they allow KB/Mouse support across all multiplayer games (which is likely considering their partnership with Razor making Xbox branded kb and mice), and I sure as hell dont want crossplay in games like Battlefield etc.

could care less about CP, i care more about the power of the console if 3rd partys look and play better, as well as BC MS has done real well with BC even making last gen titles look and run better than they did

I also bought X this week and linked my epic account with it so that the Sony can't corrupt it. Our current PS4 will stay in its place for those few exclusives, but I don't really see a future for the platform or its next iterations in our household if Sony doesn't change its policies soon.

I really couldn't care less about crossplay. As long as they continue to release great SP games, I'll go with Sony. Also, the whole world owns a Sony console, who cares if you can cross-play with Xbox and Switch players, if all your friends have a PS4 plugged to their TV?

I'm not so sure it'll be that interesting to be honest. Most of the "no" replies seem to be folks who aren't really bothered either way. I do feel that Sony will bend to the cross-play wants eventually, but I also know that it takes more than flipping a switch. I know that most developers could activate PS4 cross-play fairly easily, but Sony has a ton of implications to worry about.

Microsoft/Nintendo really scored an easy win in this regard, but it's likely a win with a vocal minority.

I've been a PS player since PS1, but I'd be shocked if I don't go full PC after my PS4 fades into history, as an older gamer, the experiences I want in gaming are on PC now.

So its not cross play, its just, well, me.

As long as we get those amazing exclusive games from Sony, with a powerful console and a 399$ price tag, I will buy their console.

I don't care about this cross platform thing at all.

It's not a consumer fight to win, so I wouldn't. If publishers push for it, and have games designed to turn Xbox, Nintendo and PC into one big install base, they will force Sony's hand.

Yup.

I could give crap about cross-play. I have a PS4, XBX and now a gaming PC.

So yea, I don't care about as much as um...let's say....as much as Microsoft does.

I don't play online games that often and when I do I couldn't care any less with which players I am playing with. In fact if you really think about it the experience is a lot more consistent if players are using the same hardware and controllers. Another point is that the user base on the PS4 will benefit other platforms more then PS user base.

It's not just xplay, it's the company's attitude the last few years that keep pushing me away from them.

Xplay is just another symptom of a bigger issue.

It's called market dominance. Unfortunately for companies to do their best they have to be pushed to do it. They are not going to please everyone, and especially if it's voluntary and costs money.

I know this sounds weird, but MHW is the only game I played online on any Sony console. Their stances don't really affect me that much.

I'm really surprised there aren't more people in favor of crossplay. I would have thought the ability to play with more friends/family/whoever would be a pretty welcomed feature.

I'm for x-play but not at the expense of not being able to play my Playstation. I'm not emotionally invested enough to consider a boycott. What m I gonna do buy a Switch or X-Box. Sure! But how can I play Spider-Man or TLOU II? The play station console is whatever to me it's always been the variety of games.

Having a PlayStation and a PC means I can play everything worth playing. An Xbox having cross platform compatibility means nothing to me, especially when I have a PC already that is cross platform compatible for the most part. Sony has a death grip on crazy awesome franchises and original titles that I couldn’t ever give up. They’d have to fall to the level of regurgitated Xbox exclusives for me to stop caring about the platform, but they genuinely try and even if some miss they got way too many hits to not miss to give up over fortnite and cross platform bullshit.

It's completely nonsense. Most fighting games end up being barren lands, even on PS4. Crossplay would benefit all platforms/players in many genres, specially niche.

With the PS5 on the horizon, the PS4 selling so we'll, and this cross play BS I'm starting to think BC isn't going to happen between the PS4 and PS5. At least at launch. If that's the case I'll dump PlayStation for a year or so and will wait until all the exclusives are half price and the 5 console hits a major redesign. I don't want two Sony consoles hooked up to my OLED. I wouldn't want 2 Xbox gens either, but they've been making it really clear that the games we love will live forever.

I already have an X, Pro, Switch, and decent PC. So as of now the Pro is only for Sony exclusives, X is for console exclusives like Red Dead, and so on. Hate that I can't play Fortnite with Friends on Xbox without making it more difficult having console players play against PC players.

For my case, all my friends have a PS4 and they know why they get a PS console, because it has good exclusives

It’s not Xbox that I can play big solo exclusives with diversity like God of War, Gravity Rush, The Last Guardian, Detroit, Horizon and soon Spider-Man

And I don’t trust MS for delivering next gen games because they don’t support their console with quality exclusives games until the end (we saw that with 360 and now with One)

Sony delivered and keep delivering, they are the only company (in video game) to do what they do in terms of big exclusives with quality and especially diversity (I don’t count Nintendo, they are different for me and Nintendo is the only one to do Nintendo games, that’s why I buy their console too)

That’s why I won’t change, always PS + Nintendo console each generation as minimum (don’t play on PC)

Nope. The more money Sony make, the more singleplayer games they make. They've proven this to be the case and I'm OK with whatever they need to do to sustain it.

Nope.

I don't play online multi-player or free to play games of any kind so Sony not having cross-play means nothing to me. I own all three consoles and the main reason why is for each console's respective exclusives which in this case, Sony is far and above beyond the other two for me so as long as they stay on course with their exclusives, I'll stay with them and their eco-system.
