Those 2 MSQ raids are the only time those will ever happened. It was so divisive that they never had mid-dungeon cutscenes again. (But then after that you'd keep doing them for the sweet roulette exp)

Also, did you consider the name change service? Although it is kind of pricy at $10.

Yeah, I can't justify $10 for a name change. Plus, except for those two raids and the entirety of the snow area (forgot its name), I felt like it went by fast and don't mind playing through ARR content again.

Ulitimately decided against buying the story skip potion as I don't think I would appreciate the newer story as much without ARR. It's a slow burn, but that feels in line with basically every JRPG I've played, expect online. Skipping any part of the story would be like jumping in the middle of any mainline Final Fantasy story. Yea there are cool things happening, but what does it matter if I have no connection to the world or characters?

Exactly. Epic stories have to start somewhere, and they are generally from humble beginnings. While it might be slow for some people's tastes, there is a ton of story and character development that shouldn't be missed. I honestly found it to be in line with the beginning of any other JRPG.

I'm really looking forward to getting the complete edition. Can I use the code from Amazon.fr even if I'm in another country? I was skimming the thread for answers but couldn't find anything.

I plan on jumping in soon. What are my best options to level as fast as possible?

Join a preferred server. You get double Xp up to level 70.

Really though levelling isn't that big of a deal, as the main story quest will need to be completed and is very long. So just mess around with classes and find what you like to play. If you're on a preferred server just doing the main story will keep you at or ahead of the main story requirements, to the point I've levelled some alt jobs just to not do quests at like 5-10 levels above them.

Yeah i agree on that, but there's so, so much "boring" content to complete in ARR that if you already forcing yourself @ level 14, it's gonna be hard to stay motivated.
True. Even if you do complete ARR, you'll be so bruised that the proceeding 200+ post-launch quests will likely do you dead

Got to mission level 49 finally (declaration of war just happened). Am I at least... ~50% through ARR? Lots of cool stuff happens occassionally, but also soooo much padding (get this helmet repaired in one city, and this armour in another, etc).

I've never paid for an online game subscription... and I never will.

I will never pay a month for a game I don't even know how many consecutive days I'll play it... free 30 days my ass... give me 30 actual free logins and I'll consider it.

Just started this and I'm conflicted. On one hand I absolutely love it. On the other hand, I really will have very little time to play soon. I wish I discovered this gem earlier it's just about everything I wanted from a console game.

Edit: missing word

There are no 30-day trials, you can play the game for free, indefinitely, and level up as many classes as you'd like to lvl 35 before having to pay a cent for the game.

But judging by your post, you just came in here to complain and aren't actually interested in the game.

Still a long way to go....:D
Tbh looking back (finished ARR 2.5 yesterday) I absolutely should have bought the scenario skip and watch cutscenes instead. So many hours of my life lost doing useless back and forths... my most feared sentence ever is now "Speak to Minfilia"

The horror!

I just finished Stormblood yesterday! I hope that 4.x is as good and swift as 3.x :)

I can't disagree with your stance, I was certainly partial to that mentality before I got into FF14.
The way I look at it is - yes, a monthly fee is hard to stomach. It adds up across the year, and there is a level of 'I need to play this to get my money's worth'.
However when I look at most AAA games, I'm going to drop a chunk of cash. If I'm lucky, I'll get a month or two out of it and then I'm done. If I really enjoy it, I'll invest more into the season pass and get another few weeks of value later on. Do this across multiple AAA games and you're dropping significant dollars.
Some games are a better value proposition, such as Destiny or better yet, Monster Hunter. However neither have the breadth of content that you can expect from a thriving MMO.

Ultimately I wrapped my head around that, and now I feel like my two subs (wife and I) are good value - regardless of whether I play it once a week, or every day. Important to note that I've also cut back on game purchases since starting FF14 - skipping purchases like Rage 2 and Mario Maker that normally would have been day one buys for me. Instead, I'm far more selective with my games (MH expansion is next) - as I've always got something interesting to do in FF14.
Your experience will no doubt vary from mine, but thought you might be interested in my opinion given I was very much in your stance only a year or two ago.

Ahaha, yeah. It helps I like those particular characters, but not having a direct warp to Waking Sands is evil.

Why are people coming into a thread about a subscription game to say they don't do subscription games? That's fine, no one cares though

Made it to 54 and the end of ARR storyline. I'm done.

I believe it gets better but sheesh... im not prepared to sink in another 50 or so hours to get to the good parts. Everything i've played is awful. Characters, writing, animations, graphics, quests - the lot. I really dont see the appeal.

Talk to person A, talk to person B, talk to person A, talk to person C, return to person A: The Game.

Lvl 17 and i finally left the starting city, having fun so far.
Considering this is my first mmo,it's not that overwhelming because i expected quests like kills hundred of enemies until it drops a certain quest item or something.
So far it's just kill x number of these enemies/deliver something, not very exciting but very straightforward and fast to complete imo.
I try to not sidetrack too much because i'm playing at a very slow pace already,so i'm only doing msqs and the blue sidequests(and some leeves if my lvl is too low).
Story wise,i guess i kinda understand what's happening but sometimes they throw names that i have no idea what they mean haha.
Like that cutscene where they introduce those cool looking imperial generals and this Nero fella comes and asks 2 random guys about their hometowns and he is like 'oh yeah? You're from there? Well, you gonna die now, man'. I have no idea about what happened there lol.

Change my mind, i want to like it!
Okay I'll try.

The appeal of ARR is exploring the world, and being taken from beautiful zone to beautiful zone, and meeting a few interesting characters that help you understand the world of Eorzea. The story on the other hand is pretty dull aside from a few set pieces.

The appeal of HW onwards is definitely more so the story. Some of the stories really are the best since FFX (particularly Shadowbringers).

However the core gameplay loop is still being brought from beautiful location to beautiful location, doing menial tasks to help learn about the world you are trying to save.

If you don't like that core gameplay loop then even the amazing story is unlikely to hold you. However you may be able to appreciate FFXIV for what it is, knowing how best to approach it. However chances are you'll never like the game.

Dropping in to say that I have completed ARR/Patch Quests and is finally moving on to Heavensward content!

What a ride. I strongly disagree with people that say the story is bad before the first expansion. While I agree that going back and forth talking to Minfilia can be excruciating, I was fully immersed in the storytelling and watching the plot unfold. "Watching" really isn't the right word because I really felt *involved* in the story and in turn, was emotionally devastated by the ending. I was jumping off my couch, yelling at the TV. My heart aches for Raubahn, holy shit. Disappointed to learn that so much of the voice acting changes from Heavensward and onward. I grew fond of them.

Going to take a little break so I don't burn out, but I'm eager to sink my teeth into Ishgard and try my hand at tanking with Dark Knight. Also can't wait to finally unlock the 50-60 job skills on my Dragoon. I'm almost lvl 60 and it's been frustrating to have game changing skills like 'Blood of the Dragon' locked behind main story progression. Still, I'm happy I beat the temptation to purchase story/level potion skips. IMO the early game is worth the investment. Watching cutscenes on youtube isn't going to build the relationship you have with the characters, which for me, have been the best part of the journey so far.

I'm still knee deep in ARR myself, taking way too much time getting through the MSQ. I'm enjoying myself though.

Going to the waking sands is such a chore. The quickest way to get there I think is through Limsa Lominsa -> aethernet Arcanists guild -> ferry to Vesper bay. At least it feels quicker than Walking there from the nearby Aether crystal.

I just teleport to horizon and take a chocobo from the chocobokeeper and afk a minute or two.
It's just that the amount of time you're doing back and forths to minfilia (who's hidden behin two fucking loading screens for no reason) just so she can do nothing and complain about her life is infuriating

Yea, I find either way about the same. The AFK for the chocobo seems easier than having to skip the cutscenes of the ferry, if I'm really annoyed at the time.

Thornmarch looks like it's going to be a PITA to get past in the main quest. Already in queue for over an hour...

if queue is taking to long try your hand at making a party finder group ask for a group to do it unsynced and maybe someone will bite and help out.

I'm on Kujata, so Elemental I think? It's not peak time, but I haven't had a problem queueing for anything else before :(

Yeah, will have to figure out how to do that I suppose.
Yeah, you should definitely set up a PF and ask for a unsync clear. It'll take one nice person like 30 seconds to carry you. I asked for your data center because I'm online right now and would have carried you if you were on Primal.

EDIT: Also, it's like 5PM over in Japan? Surely that's at least kinda close to peak times? I'm on an NA server, where it's almost 1AM to almost 4AM depending on timezone and it said an 8 minute queue for Thornmarch (Hard) as a DPS.

I'm sorry, but the scenario skip is Absolutely necessary to skip the padding.

My brother quit 3 times trying to get through 2.x filler quests after 50.

He told me his experience, so at 50 I did the scenario skip, went straight to Heavensward. Holy shit was there day and night difference. Boss battles, dragons, wars, story line, voice acting, all stuff I could actually care about.

And I still got to play all the cool parts of ARR through the dungeons and trials.

Don't slog through guys. You'll just want to quit. It's that bad.

Level 72 AST, nearing the end of Stormblood. I skipped ARR and don't regret it for a second. From what I hear about the 'slog', it might have been something that might have made me quit the game.

But as it is right now, this is one of the most fun classes i've ever played in an MMO (lol I was doing great before the buffs), and can't believe how much i'm loving the story//game.

As a newcomer, 2.x criticism feels way overblown, unless you go in without tempering your expectations.

Skipping seems like paying money to have less context, which seems stupid as all get up.

Yup. The level/story skip is some of the best money I have spent in my life. I regret not going back to play FFXIV sooner, just because the grind to level 32 was so bad...I didn't want to go through more of that.

HW and on is like a new game in comparison.
