Quality OP! Having a lot of fun with this myself. I really hope it finds its audience once it goes F2P though as playing vs certified Quakegods gets stale fast.

Always forced team model to Keel and enemy models to Sarge. Mostly because of the sounds.
Hope they get his sounds right. Haven't played in awhile but Keel has my attn.

I haven't played in a while, but I came back to try the new patch. I've been waiting over five minutes for a game. It was never this bad.

Basically the same problem Quake has had for over a decade now with trying to get new players. Even with all the stuff they have done to alleviate it (champions, stack limits, round based duels etc) the skill floor is just much higher than any other MP shooter. Even with the Quake name behind it I can't see this breaking that barrier.

I just started playing this again in the last couple of days. It plays much better than it did during the beta, I think I might pick up the Champions Pack.

I'm glad I reinstalled this. I forgot how fun it is. 50 hours and I'm still ass at duels, so I don't even know if I'll do all my placement matches.

Yay! Looking forward to trying out the winter update later today. Anyone here from EU btw (who isn't a Quake god) up for some duels?

I'm a beginner when it comes to all of the mechanics but moderately decent when it comes to aiming.

The matchmaking is bad as ever. I feel sorry for anybody trying to get into this game. I just had a level 1 on my team go 4-30.

Just needs more players. Community is a bit too small for full fledged SBMM atm. I expect them to push it a lot more once its at an acceptable level in terms of gameplay, performance, balance, etc.

love the game! Too bad the last update broke my game, it crashes after 2 seconds after starting :(
It seems a lot of people are affecting by this bug, but after a week, the developers still haven't released a hotfix ...

People seems to just give up and leave the match for me. The games aren't even blow outs, they just drop the match and the game never fills them in. I once played a 1v4 and never got replacements for the rest of the game.

I also see a lot of people just accusing people of hacking. Don't know if it's an actual big problem or people letting our their grievances. It's going to be hard to retain players until this goes F2P.

I was 0-9, but my final game I won. So much for my streak, lol. I got the lowest rank possible.

I'm just shit at duels. I do fine in other game modes, I've gotten 2.0, 4.0, and etc K/Ds before. However, when I play duels, it's like I forget how to play or the other person is just amazing at Quake.

But yeah, no more duels for me. I don't enjoy them at all. I don't think I do well under the pressure.

I wanted to get into this game but yeah, if you haven't played Quake since the beginning you're gonna get destroyed until it goes f2p... If anybody even plays it.

because i'm a glutton for punishment i bought the champions pack a few months ago having 0 experience with quake or arena shooters.

there's actually quite a bit of newer players with most matches i'm in. i still suck but can eke my way into the top 3 most deathmatches at this point. it can be a hilariously uneven experience but i like that my victories feel well earned

You can just give it a go when the game goes F2P and see if you still have that Quake competitiveness in you.

I had never played Quake before and was able to get into it pretty easily. If you still have decent aim I think it will still be fun to jump in play some TDM.

CTF is also coming as well if you're interested in a more relax mode.

Wow, those are serious nerfs to Anarki. Didn't expect a double hit to health and armour.

Needed buff to Blackowicz. Increased dual wield duration especially welcome.

I need to be better at controlling my stack. I notice I have better aim than my opponents but they're much better at tracking timings and such.

It's a good start, but they need to start adding more casual modes in general and have them be the default playlist to get new players in. A good start would be freeze tag, clan arena and capture strike (from threewave ctf). These modes kept active servers for years in quake 3 due to them being good for people to just jump in without worrying about if they are in practice or not and just having fun. Once they get those players acclimated they can eventually transition to more traditional modes (if they want to). Raw DM and TDM just don't appeal to normal people anymore sadly.

If they keep the game at this speed it might do some real damage to the remaining player base.

The one-second weapon spawn doesn't feel right either. Don't know why they messed with it.

I've seen arguments on both sides with some saying the things they removed were tools to help new players get to speed faster so vets/pros should like this change since it'l raise the skill barrier and others saying they slowed it down to appeal more to new people.. I don't know what the reason was but the game just feels wrong after playing it before the change. Slash is completely ruined.

I'm not a Quake veteran nor do I play Slash but thought this would be interesting to share.

In the Quake discord they've mentioned this is not final and plan to adjust.

In other news I've actually been using the tri bolt a lot more. It's still rather awkward but I can totally get some frags with it now.

I'm kind of warming up to it I guess, but I still miss the old acceleration because it felt very fast and responsive. Slash and other squishy characters especially benefited from it. The problem with the tradeoff being the removal of speed caps is the maps really don't allow for you to build up that high for it to matter more than pure acceleration for shorter distance movement.
