He'll come up with a great idea and then the studio will do it without him.

If Tarantino is dead-set on that R rating, that's what will kill the deal. No way does Paramount agree to an R-rated Star Trek.
OP hasn't been updated in a while, but more info came out yesterday http://deadline.com/2017/12/quentin...rew-pearce-lindsay-beer-jj-abrams-1202222161/

"Tarantino has required it to be R rated, and Paramount and Abrams agreed to that condition."

Except Paramount gave him approval to do it R Rated. Paramount told Tarantino yes to all his demands. Which EON didn't do with Bond.

Tarantino is being given creative control with Trek which he was told no when he tried to get the Casino Royale gig.

Disappointed it will likely not be set during the TNG era. Hoping for an original captain and crew, but if this does turn out to be Kirk and co. again, I hope it's a standalone film with its own unique cast and not set in the JJ-verse.
Well it's going to be Kirk. Tarantino over the years made it clear his dream of doing Trek centered on the TOS era crew.

And it's being produced by JJ Abrams...you really think they are going to recast Kirk again???? It makes no sense to drop Pine at this point for a new Kirk actor. Especially when Tarantino has been nothing but glowing in praise of the recasting JJ did.

Much as I loved Star Trek Discovery, one thing I didn't care for was that it really wasn't a family friendly show. Trek has pretty much stuck to a family friendly tone (though it certainly pushes things in some of the movies).

Discovery's pretty good so far. Trek's got a bright future ahead of it at least for the next couple of years. This Tarantino flick is icing if it comes true.

I feel like this is really the last hurrah for Star Trek. Might as well make something of it.

For the movies? Probably. Love that somebody as high caliber as Tarantino is having a go at it tho. Gonna be really interesting.

But I think discovery did pretty well. Looks like star treks run for tv might be fine in the future

Yep, you know if Paramount was in a good spot they wouldn't hand the keys over to Tarantino. They know damn well they basically got nothing to lose.

A bit of both. Series isn't bred for a broadcast channel or popular streaming service. I'm not even sure this will put more butts in the seats either. I just think it's doing something against the grain in an industry currently with a uniform finish.

I'm sure it won't be totally family friendly, but I also don't think he's going to make Reservoir Dogs in space either. He's a big fan of the 60s show and has said his ideal movie would just be a two-hour adaptation of one of those episodes. I feel like, like Justin Lin, he's not looking to fuck up what you think you know about Star Trek but capture that spirit as much as possible (unlike JJ, whose movies I liked, but were clearly from a guy who wasn't a Trek fan and was looking to make films out of that franchise that non-Trek fans like him would enjoy).

This sounds so crazy that its happening.

I got to assume they are trying to get everyone on board quick because if anyone stops and actually thinks about how absurd on paper a rated R, QT directed Trek film would be they might second guess.

I wonder if he sticks with JJ's crew or if he gets his own.

People having a hard time with the R rating probably didnt watch DS9, that show was brutal as fuck at times.

There's an R rating, and then there's a Tarantino R rating.

Given his attraction for 70s exploitation tropes, it's hard not to imagine that being what he does with it, which is probably what's not sitting well with people.

I doubt there's anything to worry about, even with full control he's certainly skilled enough to know when to reign things in.

I've been to every star trek in theaters and I have yet to see one kid under 18 that wasn't already with their parents. Perhaps that's just seattle but who knows.
