I thought this was a pretty feel good story. The entire first page or two (or three) on /r/Wallstreetbets right now is people "adopting" gorillas, whales, rhinos, elephants, and other animals.

I thought this would be weird animal trafficking stuff, but if they're just donating money then that's cool.

This seems to be a thing among meme investing subreddits. I think the dogecoin subreddit also has a thing where some people pledge to donate a cut of their earnings.

I mean...they describe themselves as "Like 4chan found a bloomberg terminal". I can't fault anyone for taking it at face value.
Pretty much everything on wsb is tongue-in-cheek, including comparing themselves to apes. Not that I expect anyone joining this discussion to understand nuance. It's easier to just feel better about yourself by being holier-than-thou.

I've lurked WSB for like five years now. The bro culture on there is strong and can be obnoxious, particularly the overuse of one slur in particular.

One of the great pros is that with the transfer of wealth to the commoner and what altruistic things they do with it. Like buying switches for a children's hospital.

So r/wallstreetbets are siding with King Kong i see.
the godzilla fans are nowhere to be found once again. this is a big win for the ape community

Lol, some people here have never been on wsb and it shows. The subreddit is known for such nefarious actions as ... donating Switches to children's hospitals, and helping to save someone's dog's life.

This place is insufferable sometimes.
serious question: why dont you just leave era. youre always whinign about it being shit here so just stop stressing urself out tbh. ur choosing to be angry at this point

Okay, but you're overcorrecting just a tad. If you're a regular and know the culture there, then it's fine to correct people. Be the change you want to see here, I guess, since your response could fall under what you're complaining about. (This is getting too meta for me.)

Taking the good with the bad doesn't mean not calling out the bad. Is this one of those situations where you can't criticize something you're a part of? That notwithstanding, ERA is still the best place to discuss the games industry.
Didn’t you know? Money = perverse person
Of course -- root of all evil, etc.
This reads as being aggressively defensive.
This whole thread reads of misinformed aggression.

Fair. Maybe it was a bad idea to get on ERA before having any coffee today. I'll bow out and hopefully return in a better mood.

Can you explain the nuance of “FD” for those of us too dense to get it. 🤷‍♂️

How about literally every comment using the terms retard and autist? The place is a cesspool.

When I'm scrollin' and come across the sub using words like that it really does rub me the wrong way. "We're using it ironically and/or satirically!", okay, but there's no context around it's use. Instead it just comes off as juvenile and harmful.

77k? Watch this rise to a million within 48 hours.

That being said I'm surprised we don't see more "donate to X charity of your choice" across almost all e-commerce payment systems. I remember hearing about Amazon setting something like this up, never saw any of it anywhere. I think allowing people to "tax" themselves by automating donations with their e-transactions should be ingrained in all e-payment systems. Small contributions do add up in the end.

I've been thinking the same thing reading the users posts the last few weeks. Either be the change you want to see in the world or leave here if you get so upset.

Fam are we going to act as if they don't go around throwing out the R-word and had a Discord full of slurs?

C'mon now.

And I frequent WSB a good amount before they broke into mainstream consciousness. This is needlessly defensive. You decided to make a post defending a community known for harmful and hurtful actions by bringing up their donations? No one would dismiss critiques of Amazon by bringing up how much money is sent to charity through Amazon Smile and other charity campaigns.

Amazon Smile. It doesn't cost the end-user a dime, either, so all you have to do is set it up.

I don't buy much from Amazon but a sliver of what I do buy goes to NARAL Pro-Choice America.
