I was told that you gotta be careful with doctors because they'll prescribe you medicine that can hurts you because white doctors belive blacks pain tolerance is different and also just being racists in general.
But this is actually true, and it is important to stop focusing so much on just white people when testing medication. Pain is a lot more complicated than most people, and there are measurable differences between not just between black and white people but other groups as well. Different types of pain, for example from a cut or a burn can be more or less intense, requiring a higher or lower dose of medication. And different types of (pain) meds differ in efficacy as well.
That said, all humans have an easier type empathizing with people that are similar to them, and it's that empathy that helps you recognize the pain or distress the patient is in. White doctors do effectively - no matter if they hold racist believes or not - estimate lower amounts of pain in black patients compared to white patients and as a result on average prescribe fewer pain meds.
This means the best advice for black people, or other people with an appearance unlike that found in the doctors family, is not the estimate if the doctor is racist/bigoted or not(because even if not, that won't help you), but to try to better communicate your pain in a verbal manner. So say your pain on a scale of ten and increase it to compensate, instead of letting the doctor make his own judgement based on your cries of pain and agonized facial expressions. This sucks, be we humans suck like that.
