Basically, the narrative started that the racists kids were mocking a Native American.
New video surfaced that revealed that the racist kids were in a bigoted shouting match with some black Israeli group when the Native American came up to try and defuse the situation. THEN The racist kids started mocking a Native American.
So, because the Native American walked up to them, they and their supporters think their racism is fine.
This is the most disingenuous and factually incorrect summary of the situation I've read yet, congrats.

Now, as for my version:
The initial tweet was framed disingenuously in order to create drama. That is factual, the twitter account was banned after it came out they were a fake news account.
The initial reaction was to a few pictures and a short video, my reaction was the same as many "these racists pricks accosted and surrounded a peacefully protesting native american man and racially mocked him".
Then more video came out showing that Nathan Philips actually inserted himself into the group of racist kids in an attempt to stop some imagined confrontation between the racist kids and a group of homophobic bigoted Black Israelites. The mocking by some was racially charged, but some were just dancing along to the chanting which may be disrespectful but not racist, while others were just standing there dumbfounded by the entire situation.
Sandmann himself is likely a racist little privileged prick of a kid... but the incident does not reflect that, nor does the confrontation between him and Nathan Philips represent harassment or racial mocking.
In the end, this "confrontation" is mostly nothing, blow completely out of proportion by a twitter culture that craves drama and by over-correcting celebrities and news organizations.
But they were indoctrinated into racism by black men, only moments before throwing tomahawks down at a native American.
Those poor choirboys were only trying to pray silently while they were viciously attacked by a war drum.
He "inserted himself into the situation" though. Brought it all on himself. Poor boys. I'm going to write them a check.

That's a lot of words excusing white kids sporting MAGA hats throwing tomahawks at native Americans. This is some truly shameful shit. No one cares who approached who because it doesn't erase the racism.

Thanks for that. Before you clarified I actually thought you were upset at that comment in the other direction... for going too soft.
I think the thing is that once this imagery had been locked in as a political tool, it became seen as partisan to provide clarity or context for what we were seeing. You'll surely get pushback for this post (edit: there it is... already started).
I tried to be as specific and detailed as possible in order to avoid shit like this and yet, here you are claiming I'm saying thing that I'm not saying.
Absolutely, it's a barometer for partisanship. What ACTUALLY happened doesn't matter because the kids are most definitely racist or because the kids are most definitely just kids.
Can you quote where I said "probably" or "maybe" in my post explaining the situation?

Did your additional context also link the videos where these kids were shouting rape jokes and catcalling women walking by? Or the kid who told the native Americans their land was supposed to be stolen because that's just now it goes?

Because you posted half assed context, which I just brought to your attention. Read my post again. You left out damning parts of the video.
"The Video" was an hour and forty minute video showing the confrontation between the Black Israelites and the Covington kids and eventually (for a very short time) Nathan Philips.
The other videos were taken at other times.

There were multiple videos from multiple cameras, taken at various times throughout the day. What is your point?

This is about the confrontation between Convington protesters and Nathan Philips. This is not about their sexist behavior shown in other videos.
It has absolutely nothing to do with the them and Nathan Philips. Which is what the entire internet blow up was about.

As if the context of these kids catcalling, making sexist jokes and racist commentary about justifying native Americans' stolen land is irrelevant to what transpired. Since their entire defense relies on spinning the narrative into "we were just innocent choirboys doing silent prayers until the mean minority inserted himself into the situation". Give me a fucking break.
