This is such a measly mouthed way to say if someone is racist and says and does racist things....

it's telling you emphasize the violence being bad but downplay and diminish the racism.
Surely you realize there are other ways to deal with racist slurs than violence? Like words? But no, showing a 60 year old racist bitch her place is apparently too hard a task. The ladies in the bus, they did it right. They laughed her ass out of the bus. Made her feel uncomfortable. The violent act that followed is just going to make her more racist. Because now she has a reason.

There are lots of ways to get punched in the face, you're not living in some idiotic passive society where no one's going to do anything.

Go to a bar and go hit on a guy's girlfriend, and see what happens.

Go make an insensitive remark about a child in front of a parent.

Go taunt a special needs kid where a parent or older sibling is present.

Odds are none of the people aghast would be surprised at all to get punched in the face in those situations.

Well guess what? Calling a black person the N-word when you're not a black person is yet another way you're fairly likely to get punched in the face. If you have half a brain, even if you are a piece of crap, you will know better than to do that. If you don't, don't ask for sympathy afterwards, it's like crying about getting stung by a bee after you stirred a hornet's nest.
I don't think anyone is sympathizing with the racist woman. In all of those situations you cited, you'd still be responsible for the punches thrown and damage done.

Yeah, obviously people shouldn't get the shit knocked out of them so intensely. But like, how am I supposed to sympathize? You can't say she wasn't asking for it, ffs

Okay so the main character has psychic powers but they don't work on racists. Only his punches do lol. But you could have a white supremacist politician dude who uses his psychic speech powers to convince people to become racist. Later, the twist will be the racist dude had no psychic powers and that America is just that fucked up...but we gotta lead the viewers in a bit with a little mystery.
This needs to be a movie.

So many people will defend the comfort of racists. And believing minorities who say they are the victim of racism seems to be a huge leap faith for some. You call someone the N-word then you should expect to get punched. That goes for yourself, your grandparents, your children, and anyone you care about.

You know what makes racist people more racist? Everything... but sure now she has a reason, are you saying a black person having a violent reaction to being called the most dehumanizing word possible now makes being racist against black people "reasonable"?

I'm not gonna be the one to tell Black folk that they have to laugh off being called by that word...

I do like how you ignored what I said to go on your soapbox though.

This happens every day, people get socked for a whole bunch of reasons, all the younger white people know that using the N word to a black persons face is fighting words.

Best I can do is apologize and leave it. Thought you were going the ol' 'humans are inherently tribal' angle that seems to be dominant from alt-right scumbags.
Apology accepted. I just don't see how violence as a reaction helps the cause. Racism is without a doubt a huge problem, but beating them up (while tempting) is just weak.

I think deplatforming is good. I think in a case like this you're actually doing the opposite though, since now she's being given a national platform to discuss her hateful views where before she was a literal nobody. If you're going to advocate violence as a way of deplatforming, then I think it only works if you focus your efforts on people who already have large platforms

Can men also have a reason to harass women? Can we justify sexism and sexual harassment?

What's the reason? If you got punched by a black person would you hate all black people?

More racist in private, not public ever again cause everyone knows her face now (or maybe not after what happened to it). Embarrassing her with words won't stop her from being racist in public again, she just would feel a little bad that day and get over it. What you don't get over is being knocked out. As far as you should be concerned, that's a win.

This is not some academic debate, this is real life. You want to use that type of language, no one is putting a gun to your head to do so. You can suffer the repercussions.

Would you be surprised for someone who got punched in the face at a bar for slapping the ass of someone's girlfriend? Or someone who made a taunt about lets say someone's family member committing suicide (ie: something that would personally elicit a high degree of emotion from someone)?

Well guess freaking what. Saying the N-word to black people can elicit a similar kind of emotion. I don't celebrate violence, but I also understand we don't live in Disneyland, you do dumb shit, don't come crying afterwards if you catch one in the face. Language, action, and social conduct have repercussions and there are a multitude of ways to get your ass laid out, this being one of them.

Don't make racists mad or you'll make them even more racister.

Wait.

Lady gets beat up for calling, again, a bus full of Black people niggers.

And you think that beating her up now gives her a reason to look down on an entire group of millions of people. She's justified now and it's our fault, huh. That's not how any of this works. She was already racist. She didn't catch hands on the premise that it would make her less racist. She caught hands so her geriatric ass would shut the fuck up from now on.

Not every response to racism is about "helping the cause."

Why do minorities have to be the saints all the god damn time
I'm an openly gay man in a state that, had it not gone Federal, would still not have the same marriage rights. Still don't have the other protections that everyone else has.

Caught too many beer cans and bottles and slurs to sit idly by when I know how fast shit escalates. Fists are made to fly. Fuck these bigots.

What is this post and the mentality behind it. How young are you and where do you live? This let's take the higher road and talk it out shit has NOT worked here in the US. Or any place else on Earth that I know of when it comes to racism.

But I bet she'll think twice calling a group of Black people "Niggers" which is the whole fucking point. You think they care whether she gets more racist? It's almost as is if, maybe, some Black people might get triggered hearing a White person actually calling them that in public so blatant and unashamedly disrespectful due to it's traumatic baggage and history that perhaps their emotions may get the best of them and they may act on it.

If you think this woman doesn't deserve to have the shit beat out of her and left bloodied on the floor for using that word, please leave. She got off easy.

While I don't condone violence, it is a last resort when it comes to extreme bigotry. My grandfathers didn't peacefully protest against Nazi Germany. Play stupid games, get stupid prizes.

Sticks and stones may break bones
But names reinforce systemic racism and oppression that permeates throughout society and breaks spirits.

The word nigger was literally used by white people, as a race, used as justification for inflicting centuries of suffering upon millions of people, who until 50 years ago were still suffering off the back of that word and arguably still are.

That there are some posters in this thread who truly believe that brothers and sisters are supposed to just turn the other cheek or keep our emotions in check when a white person decides to use that word so brazenly in this day and age shows me how much progress still needs to be made.

People in here acting like there aren't Black folk alive right fucking now that were kept disenfranchised as slaves right up until the 1960's. But this old white lady shouldn't have been decked because It's Just A Word.

I will say that I understand the initial reaction to be disturbed, I mean the end would disturb anyone. The violence we see always does.

Again though, think of it this way, what if she had been berating a disabled kid on a bus and their parent roughed them up after scuffle? The reaction would be different.

We'd agree that it wasn't a case of "just words".

Man, this one word has such a power to be seen a "just a word", rather than the throwing of a gauntlet, which it basically is.

Lotta comfort with this word and even though I believe that most of us (white Eranians) agree that its a terrible, awful word, lets be honest here guys, its been tossed around us at a family party or some place were its what "just us white people". It takes time to accept that it isn't a word that makes you feel uncomfortable, its like calling a disabled/mentally challenged kid the r-word in front of their parents.

This is an interesting thought. I guess whites will play the minority card in the U.S. in the coming decades? What a world.
you know they've been waiting since forever to get their slice of the complete and total welfare and affirmative action pies. minorities have had it easy in America for centuries, getting everything for free and the first choice slots at schools and workplaces. White people want their chance, finally.

Im not from the US so maybe i can't have a take on that problem from your point of view. What i see it's only people being awful to others, sorry.
The old lady was a Racist PoS but there are laws to deal with that , this reinforced her way of thinking not the other way around. (of her and all the racists watching the video)
Resorting to violence it's a last resort to any non violent people.
There aren't laws to deal with that. There are no laws against racist hate speech, aren't laws against White Nationalist groups, and the most prolific terrorist group to set foot in the US can roam and operate openly and freely etc.... There's nothing that would change that woman or most Whites who happen to be racist. If they act a fool and someone clocks em between now and them meeting Bud Light Jesus, then so be it.

This would be funny if these fears hadn't led to Trump in 2016.
