While there has been previous threads here on Rage 2 running at 60FPS on enhanced consoles, none have actually confirmed the resolution. I had assumed that it would be 1080/60 on the Pro and maybe 1440P/60 on the X. But actually both the Pro and X are limited to 1080P with no option for a higher res at 30FPS. This comes from HardcoreGamer interview with Tim Willits. Thought some people might want to know.
Can you talk about PS4 Pro and Xbox One X enhancements?

To make it simple, on the enhanced consoles, it runs at 1080p/60fps. On base hardware, it runs at 30fps. On PC, it's uncapped. We went for speed over 4K for the enhanced consoles.

For me it's kind of a disappointment. I would have preferred to have a choice of either 60FPS at 1080P and 30FPS at dynamic 4k or whatever it would run at. Or since the X has a decent bump in power from the Pro, an attempt at something closer to 1440P at 60FPS. But it is what it is. Your thoughts?

Finally someone did it! I'll take that. Would've prefered two options though: 1080/60 and 4k/30

They made a good choice in getting the performance there HOWEVER a quality option should exist for those who are graphics > FPS.

It's 30FPS on the base consoles?

I wasn't that interested in the game, but now unless it's on PS+ or something I probably won't play it.

I think it's good a developer has just said that it benefits from 60fps, so have it 60fps.

That's fine if it's locked 60fps. Not sure that will be the case, especially on PS4 Pro.

That's great, especially considering it's an open-world game after all. There should be an option for those that would like to prioritize resolution, though.

Yeah, these games should offer both... A 1080p/60fps option, and a highest resolution you can achieve at 30fps option.

That makes me morbidly curious on the game's performance on base consoles.

Part of what made the OG Rage a game worth recommending despite its flaws was the fact that it looked and performed way better than a game of its scale and ambition usually did on last generation consoles and mid-range PCs of the time. (Rage was 60fps on Xbox 360, 720p with dynamic horizontal res) Was kind of hoping that would stick as the Rage franchise's 'thing'.

This is made by the developers of Just Cause 2 while the original Rage is made by maybe the most technically skilled developer in video games (id)

RAGE 2 is a joint production between id Software and Avalanche Studios. It's not solely being handled by Avalanche as id engineers are on board too.

Not sure why anyone would expect it to be higher than 1080p at 60fps. Sucks for base console owners, but thems the breaks at this stage of the gen.

It's not using idTech, but rather an engine created by Avalanche. id, as far I remember, provides support for combat, art and plot.

No buy for me. One does not simply go back to 1080p after experiencing so many games at 4K.

Hopefully it hits Gamepass soon after.

I prefer 60 for this type of game so that's cool but I hope the Pro holds up if the X is only at 1080p

Well that is an awesome news. These console could easily support 1080p60fps so yeah it's welcome. No need to push 4k when it's 30fps

X better be locked at 60FPS if they're going for the fps/res parity with Pro. Or maybe it will have some settings cranked up a bit.

At 1080P I might as well get this for my 1070 rig.

Totally happy with this, really looking forward to the game and happy for the 60fps. Avalanche's engine has had issues on console with framerate and if doom was 60 and a dynamic res for a non open world game, this game at 1080/60 seems fair. I understand folks wanting another option though, there plenty of games I wish had offered a performance option over res.

Surprised by "only" 1080p. Personally I prefer it over a higher resolution with (unstable) 30 fps.
Though if that article is from January, 30th, maybe they found some time to do further improvements?

That makes me very happy :)
It's open world and the visuals are pretty nice, so I was afraid that it will be 30 fps on consoles.
I mean, it even turned out to be like that, at least on base consoles.

Still happy with my 1080p TV and I always prefer 60fps instead of higher resolution, so that's perfect to me.

Hopefully the game has some decent anti-aliasing at least, I'm glad they're aiming for 60fps first and foremost though.
60 is a must for a fast-paced FPS.

Some choice here would've been nice. But 60FPS is damn nice for an open world shooter.

But man, after playing all these games on my X1X in native 4K, this is gonna be a beating on my eyes.

No 4K option? That's rough, not sure if I'll be there day one but it's nice they gave people 60FPS.

I'll take it. All the RAGE 2 vids I've seen have been 60fps and the game has looked like it benefits from that frame rate a lot due to the fast pace. I hope it holds 60fps on the pro.

gameplay looks pretty frantic and dynamic so can't fault them for prioritizing framerate above all else. it's an open world FPS in 2019

though i'd have to play the game to judge what kind of leverage could be given there

I can't accept FPS games at 30fps since I played DOOM, guess I'll pass this one.

The difference in this case though RAGE 2 is an open world game, which are typically more CPU heavy. It's not an apples to apples comparison in this point because the memory usage in map design for DOOM which uses individual designs which the level itself needing to be loaded and not the entire game world allows them push more performance since they aren't dealing with a larger environment with more objects needing be streamed for draw distance and whatnot.

There aren't many large open world games, let alone open world shooters that are 60 FPS this gen, especially not at the level of fidelity that RAGE 2 has.

I don't see why they would ship it without at least a high res option. I get 60fps benefits for driving and shooting but I don't like playing low res games on my TV.

Hopefully it looks better than Hellblade's 60fps mode.

This doesn't bode well for the base models if prioritizing 60fps was that important to them. Basically the way it was meant to be played in their minds is 60fps.

Hmm. Since its single player player only I'll probably get it on PC but a choice of res vs frame rate on the X and Pro would have been nice to see.
