So I've managed to clock in about 11-12 hours and I think I'm nearly at end game where you finish all faction related quests. Short recommendation: Get it on a deep sale or when it's on Game Pass. It's not worth getting full price right now. I found it a deeply disappointing experience and that's considering that my expectations weren't even that high and just wanted a dumb, open world shooter to blast through.
  • The shooting as almost everyone has said is really good and satisfying with excellent animations backed with tight sound design. Even the spongier enemies feel good to shoot because elements like weapon design, animations, sounds...etc are just so well done to begin with. Abilities are cool but probably too reliable when fights get hectic. The actual combat are the only real high this game has to offer. Performance on rig was good, no complaints there. As for the mixed and negatives...
  • This is an utterly terrible open-world map where almost nothing is worthwhile if you're not in the POI (points of interest) content from bandit camps, road blocks, mutant nests...etc. The space between said content is so sparse that the hover craft to fly over the vast majority of my playtime because I just did not want to bother to traverse with the regular vehicles.
  • Speaking of vehicles, they're so terrible at handling for the exception of the main vehicle and hover craft. Like I legitimately laughed out loud at just how awful the controls for the bike were. And dear lord help you, if you even think about driving off-road and you'll just be bouncing and losing control all over the goddamn place with even the smallest bit of geometry or scenery. Like these guys totally miss the point of open world games if they made anything outside the main paths so bad to traverse.
  • This is honestly one of the most nothing storylines I've experienced recently. No stakes, no worthwhile characters, dreadful pacing, awfully edited dialogue (I honestly could not believe the amount of times NPCs where repeating information as if the writers were terrified the audience is constantly losing interest so they have to keep reminding with dreadful over-exposition). Tonally, it's all over the place where it can't decide it wants to be Borderlands or Fallout which the end-result is a complete mess of unfunny quips and dull exposition. This is totally not the "So wacky and over-the-top, in your face!" type shooter the trailers made it out to be.
I expected to go off at the game's open world and how I would've preferred a more linear experience but this is bad open-world anyway. The game constantly shoots itself in the foot by not playing to any of its strength mainly its shooting. Combat in the various camps is so fast, very few of them last long to make the mechanics shine. And don't get me started on those awful and tedious Authority sentries...

I was not expecting much but still came out disappointed. There is still fun to be had but it could've come out much better than this.

Why did I unlock this "tracker"? It's pretty shitty and I hate how much screen space it takes up. I wish I could disable it.

Recently started going through my backlog so I just jumped in. Any word from the devs about adding more control options? Acceleration specifically? Or at least addressing how blurry the game is? Anti-aliasing tweaks?

I'm playing on a One X w/ 4k screen and Jesus it looks bad.

Apparently there is a patch in the works that addresses the blurriness complaints (for all systems).

"Hey all. First, a big 'thank you' to everyone who has been playing RAGE 2 and kicking butt in the wasteland! We appreciate all the feedback we've been getting from you and fellow players throughout the Steam boards. We've been collecting all your feedback and reports of issues. The dev team is hard at work on implementing new features and bug fixes for our first big patch for the game, coming in June.

We wanted to take a minute to cover just some of the reported issues we are working to address:
  • Audio fixes, such as NPC audio dips
  • Menu optimizations (reduction in latency)
  • Several crash fixes
  • Racing bug issues, including finishing in 1st place but receiving 2nd place (how rude!)
  • Reducing the amount of Wasteland Wizard locations (from 15 to 3!)
  • A dialog prompt issue with Kvasir
  • Mouse acceleration/smoothing options
  • New AMD sharpness algorithm for all platforms (to address "blurry" complaints)
  • Nicholas Raine armor fix

Again, this is just some of what we're addressing in our first game update. We will be providing a full list of patch notes as we get closer to finalizing everything that will be included in the update.

Outside of squashing bugs, the team is also working on adding new features to the game. We've seen the feedback that you want to be able to revisit some of the bandit camps that you've previously cleared. We love that feedback! In the near future, select bandit camps that you've cleared are going to be repopulated at an even higher difficulty with a reward incentive. The best part? The challenge is ongoing, so you can test your skills as you attempt to clear the outposts again and again, with the outposts getting more difficult each time. More details to come. "

Good news! I shelved it for now since I can't go more than an hour or so before the blurriness gets to me. I'll jump back in when the patch drops.

I'm all for meeting release deadlines, but to release a game with these issues (and the menu stuttering) is baffling when they could've seemingly pushed it back a month, shipped without those problems and gotten a much better reception.

I think the patch MAY be out tomorrow to coincide with the Free DLC that is launching.

Considering that clearing bandit camps was by far the best part of the couple of hours I played, I love this. Since DOOM Eternal is still far away, I'll probably re-install Rage 2 when this update is out.

Just started downloading the update, so time to jump back in!
  • Bandit Camps are now replayable! Open your map and select any previously cleared bandit camp to replay them as much as you'd like -- and get rewarded.
  • Menu optimization improved to address slowdown issues.
  • Crate Improvements! Improved melee hit detection and increased visibility at night.
  • Improved sharpness on high-res screens to reduce "blurriness".
  • Adjusted the day/night cycle. (Previously, the day time moved too slow, night time lasted too long)

Those were needed additions and thank Gaming Jesus for the bolded. I gave up trying to melee them 2 minutes into the game and have been shooting them open ever since.

Still waiting for the sun to come up (in game) to see the full effect of the blurriness fix, but for now it's better, but not perfect.

edit:
Yep, much less blurry than it used to be, but still a little soft. Very satisfied with the update so far, though all of this should have been there at launch.. Just need acceleration options and some further tweaking down the line.

looking at that list, yeah, this game was released too early for sure...but now it doesn´t matter, many players already moved on.

I've been playing on PS4 Pro for a while with the new patch. Definitely a lot of improvements. The menu is faster, but still has a tendency to get hung up. The melee hit detection for crates is great now. I was having a lot of audio issues and haven't had a single one since the patch. I haven't been in any dark areas to see if crate visibility has improved, but hopefully it has. It's so weird they didn't use a flashlight in the game. Lastly, the increased sharpness seemed to bring out more aliasing, but it's definitely not as blurry as it used to be.

Yeah, I noticed the increased aliasing right off. It's not horrible, and seems like a decent enough comprise to clear up the image some.

Nice, solid list of improvements. If they keep this up, the game should be much better when I get around to playing it again - probably somewhere between August and Doom Eternal's release.

Beat the game, honestly doesn't know how to feel about it. Combat was amazing but everything else felt like an after thought. Even combat had it issues, barrier was a worthless skill Grav dart and the fire pistol are fun when you are just playing around. But damn near useless in real combat. And the rest of the game is just busy work, mind numbing busy work.

Couldn't find anything about it, but is it still not possible to turn off these butt ugly hitmarkers?

Agreed on all that, but Barrier upgraded to deal damage is pretty useful honestly. That plus vortex is agreat combo and the running mutant mobs just run right into it and get shredded.

Finally platinumed it. Cleared all points on the map too. All in all, it took about 35 hours (and I play video games really slowly). The increased sharpening with the update DEFINITELY helps this game look MUCH better. Also replaying the bandit dens helps a ton with the kill 1337 goons trophy.

I think this game is a solid 7 and I had lots of fun playing it. It Needs a lot of work and a whole of content outside of "go to X and clear the camp" which is literally all it has right now.

Beat the story mode just now. I played the game on and off for the past month or so. I actually really enjoyed my time with it overall, even with my little faux paux in the beginning not realizing project points went across all projects. I actually have a decent amount of stuff left to do.
I rented the game from GameFly, but would have been totally okay if I had purchased it I believe.

Got the mech the other night and was super underwhelmed. The weapon options don't seem powerful enough for being so slow. Wish it had a bit more mobility.

Just noticed the difficulty level achievements. How long have they been there, or were they always there and I'm blind? Definitely don't remember an ironman mode being an option.

Nevermind, I should have checked their twitter first. New game plus, excellent.

This might be the first game where I actually take advantage of a New Game +. Running through it again leveled up on a higher difficulty is sounding really good right now during the summer slowdown.

i bought the digital deluxe on xb1 and none of the preo-order/deluxe content is showing up. linked the bethesda account and everything. it even prompts me to buy the deluxe edtion content with the microtransaction coins. looking at some youtube videos, there should be a notification that informs you, that the content is availabe and thanks you for the purchase of the deluxe content. had none of that.

Borrowed this game from a friend and just beat it.
When I first started I was enjoying doing the side missions and checking out some of the locations. This resulted in alot of exploration before I arrived at Gunbarrel and eventually Wellspring.

I paid attention to the story until I finished the wasteland celebrity quest. That's about when I realized I disliked the characters and Walker.
I just started skipping dialogue at that point and only hit the side missions that were directly in my path. Roadblocks, sentrys, bandit hideouts etc.

Story wrapped up very quickly and the missions were completely forgettable. In fact, the only mission that stood out for me, was the Ecopod story mission - mostly due to the set piece.
I also felt the final few missions made some of the Halo:CE hallways look fun and varied.

In short, I'm really glad I didn't pay for the game. I really enjoyed the first Rage, so I actually liked the shotgun and some of the smaller jumping/flipping enemies. But I really don't have anything positive to say about the rest of the the game.

I bought the deluxe on Steam during the sale. I received the BFG bonus weapon.

But after finishing the Blackout quest, I did not get the prompt for Cult of the death god. Was that strictly for those who pre ordered only? Thanks

Yes, that was for pre-orders only. I wouldn't be surprised if it gets added as dlc later, although I'm not sure at what price I'd consider it worthwhile. You can't see most the armour ( I didn't realise it needed equipping until I'd almost finished the game) and the pistol isn't much fun to use. The mission itself is pretty brief.

Played the past few days. I loved the first one, but this isn't doing as much for me. Encountered two sound bugs (Xbox One) where either no sound plays or some weird sounds keep playing. Loading a save doesn't fix it so I had to reboot both times. The AI is pretty weak IMO. Maybe I should have played on something harder than normal. The enemies just sit there and don't seem to chase much. I'll keep trying though. I really want to like this as much as the first one.

Thanks. Just saw it on the store. They're selling at 400 Rage coins.

I had that issue as well. If you are still unable to get your bonus content, I would suggest that you contact support. https://help.bethesda.net/app/incident (select Rage 2 and your platform) That's what I did. They first replied with a typical copy pasta response, and said if issue still occurs, send your proof of purchase. I sent a screenshot of my Steam transaction, and then just minutes later, they added the bonus content in the product codes section of my Bethesda.net account , and got the bonus items notification in-game when I loaded my save.

Loaded up my Xbox save file where I've completed the game, and the New Game + option is locked. It says I need to have completed Project Dagger. Load the file, double check my log and it confirms I've completed the Project Dagger questline. Saved the game, went back to the main menu, and the New Game + option is still locked telling me I need to complete Project Dagger.

Great.

Try either closing rage then restarting it again or restarting your PS4. I had the same problem. After resetting and restarting the game NG + was unlocked and ready to play.
