I've done some tutorials, yes, but playing with AI is not that useful.
The game just has a really steep initial learning curve, so you'll have to kind of keep playing to improve. I didn't think the situations were helpful starting out for the same reason for what it's worth. Experience and map knowledge are the two most important things in the game IMO, and those really just come with time. Once you know common routes and angles, it becomes much easier to play. I'd recommend always watch the killcam if you're not sure where someone is, and try to think about where people like to move a lot.
Starting out, I'd also recommend trying to just hang out on the objective while playing defense. This gives you a better idea of where attackers will commonly approach from and you can better think about why they come certain ways, and how to best prevent it with gadgets or positioning. Or if they come here a lot, why don't people roam there or have rotations in certain spots? And so on. That helps while attacking too.
Practicing aim is good too. Since headshots are so strong, try to make it a habit of keeping your crosshair at head height. If you're good at controlling recoil, you'll be able to win most aim duels off that alone.
Depends on what we're talking about, if you literally don't know the basics the situations are decent, otherwise it's just map knowledge which you can't really speedrun. I would say newcomer is still a good spot simply to keep the map rotation manageable (it only has 3 maps instead of 12 or whatever). Once you start to learn Siege maps and understand the game better, it also becomes much easier to learn new maps. You understand what you're looking for in angles and can start shortcutting some of the design philosophies mentally. Even complicated ones like Fortress didn't take THAT long to learn compared to learning even the easiest maps when I was a newbie imo.

Thatcher wouldn't necessarily be my 'newbie' pick though, because if your thatcher just dies randomly or doesn't do their job properly it really impacts the team negatively, and as a new player it probably opens you up to some bullshit talk from your team if that's you as well. I'll note that's maybe a bit hypocritical of me as he was one of the first attackers I REALLY latched onto, and his guns are absurdly good, but I think in general the support ops (any of the hard breaching squad) are best once you've got enough hours to at least know the map.

forgive me as I haven't done any research - just thought I'd ask here:
I've been enjoying Valorant's style of play, and realized it's similar to R6 in some ways. If I wanted to jump in as a compete n00b, how friendly is the game for newcomers? More importantly, which version would I have to buy to enjoy everything currently available (outside of cosmetics.) I find that information a bit confusing to find, I know there have been a few season passes, etc. Thanks!

I would definitely stick with a couple operators on each side to start with so you get a feel for them, then branch out once you start to feel comfortable.
For Attack, I would recommend Sledge. Has an accurate gun, and his ability is straight-forward. You can use it to open up sightlines all over the map as well as get quick access through areas.
As your alternate, I would take IQ or Jackal. Jackal will let you see where nearby roamers are and hopefully avoid getting picked off by them, and IQ will let you start to learn the usual spots for placement of electronics (especially cams).
For Defense, I would suggest Rook and Doc. Rook will get you easy points and a surefire way to help the team every match -- just start the match, plop down your armor bag immediately and you're done. For Doc, you will be a lot more survivable and you have a great gun, so you're able to win a lot of 1v1s (as well as heal yourself or downed allies if you happen to be nearby).
I haven't played Valorant, but Counter-Strike, the game its primarily based on was my first FPS love affair that I played for thousands of hours and Siege. IMO. is the direct upgrade to everything about Counter-Strike in every conceivable way. It's my favorite competitive shooter of all time, so I would say if you're tickled by Valorant you might also really love Siege. The game has a steep learning curve because it relies heavily on knowing the maps, and there are a lot of them in the game at this point. I'd say go in with a bit of a thick skin because you'll probably get dressed down a lot for messing up as a noob, but realistically you should just be more ready and willing to mute people because you WILL run into toxic/racist edgelords like you do in most online games
As for what edition to buy, if you suspect you will enjoy the game, you should wait for the game to be on sale (it's ALWAYS on sale somewhere more or less) and get the Ultimate Edition which comes with every available post-launch hero for like $45 USD. I wish I had gotten that version at the start because I got the standard edition and it took me 1 year and a month to unlock all of the operators via grinding in game (playing pretty regularly). If you just want to dip a toe in the game (or think you could be repelled by the game's toxic fanbase, especially if you don't have a pack of friends already playing to help ease you in) the Standard and Gold editions are basically the same but the Gold edition is a dollar more (again, when it's on sale) and you get 8 additional operators. There's almost no reason to get Standard anymore. Regardless of what edition you get I'm pretty sure you still need to grind renown to unlock the initial set of base operators (but it's at a reduced price, so it's easy to do)

I don't think Siege and cs/valorant are all that comparable tbh, both gunplay and gameplay are pretty different, but imo it makes CS and by proxy valorant feel so fucking outdated and busted.
I'd listen to the version advice above. The ultimate on sale is just a huge time savings, if you're budget conscious at LEAST get the gold version when it's on sale as it's barely any more expensive than the normal one and probably saves you 20 hours of grinding.

Hey newbie here. Just got vote kicked out of a match after winning a round. Why? Is it because I'm staying patient and at the objective and don't roam?
The previous round we lost, but they still started the vote after I got two kills. This game is so unwelcoming. Already incredibly difficult to get into and once it clicks you still have the roadblock that is the community in the way :/
