PS5 exclusive Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is back at the top of the UK boxed charts following an 187% jump in sales.

It's the third time the game has been No.1. Its surge in sales this week follows the arrival of new PS5 stock, and the game was featured in a number of console bundles at UK retailers.

Last week's No.1 was Mario Golf: Super Rush, which drops to No.4 in its third week after a 42% fall in sales. FIFA 21 holds second spot despite a 10% sales drop. The game has performed well during the on-going European Championships, which ended yesterday.

Congrats to Ratchet and Clank, but it does not tell too much about the popularity of the game in the country TBH.

If they keep bundling it with PS5 it'll keep returning to No. 1 any time a significant batch of PS5s arrive.

Perfect game to bundle with however, since it demonstrates the abilities of the new machine perfectly.

Reminds me to the fact that the best selling Sony developed title on PS4 in Japan is Knack because it was bundled to the machine at launch.

Yeah, this is a new trend that's been happening, manufactures bundling games with consoles, which is clearly hiding the real numbers of the games in question.

The difference is that this bundle isn't a PS5 + free game bundle. People had to pay more for the extra Ratchet & Clank game.

Game in bundle isn't free. Customers pay for the bundle with the game. Nothing to hide when customers are paying 70 for r&c alongside their ps5 purchase.

Pokemon, mario kart, monster hunter, uncharted, halo etc all get bundled by manufacturers. So whats there to hide? Exclusives are made to sell these boxes.

Bundles. Same reasons Forza Horizon 4 has basically always bothered the charts since release. A load of PS5 stock came into the UK last week and those official Ratchet and Clank PS5 bundles are tracked as game sales.

Also, it's a great game. But the bundles explain the bonkers 187% leap. It's not 187% more people suddenly deciding to go and buy Ratchet after it's been out for a month. It's people buying consoles that happen to come with R&C.

Between the flashy 4K OS, Astrobot to demonstrate what the DualSense is capable of and Ratchet to demonstrate what the PS5 is capable of, the 'wow factor' for a new owner is pretty high. It certainly was for me, coming from a base PS4 as many other will.

Difference is that unlike Horizon, Ratchet isn't free in the bundle.

I mean, you either buy a bundle with the game at the cost of said game, or you pay a few extra hundred to a scalper. : p

It's difficult to separate those who want to play the game vs. those who just jumped at getting a PS5 and will resell without knowing player stats in the UK and looking at prices on the second-hand market.

Regardless, they're full-priced game sales for Sony, so it doesn't matter much (but it's beneficial for those looking to score it for cheap pre-owned).

Insomniac is killing it. Going to have two games that basically chart every time there is PS5 restock.

Buying a Ratchet bundle is the only way to get a PS5. If they release 5,000 new Ratchet bundles into retail, they are going to sell 5,000 more copies of Ratchet that week. I don't think it matters if the bundle costs a little more because of the bundled game. If you want a PS5 you're paying it.

And it doesn't really matter the context at the end of the day. Sony sold x amount of Ratchet, which means it charted. That's still the news. You sell your games however you can and they continue to sell a ton of copies.

It's a difference because people paid extra for the game. It's a sold game.

The other new release in the charts its Oddworld: Soulstorm, which debuts at No.10. 52% of the game's sales were on PS4 and 48% was on PS5.

This trend keeps repeating itself. PS5 numbers being as big as PS4 numbers.

Miles Morales is not the go-to PS5 game anymore. Now it was replaced by another Insomniac game: Ratchet & Clank.
You love to see it.

That frankly just makes this a bit shady. There is still a PS5 shortage so people either buy the bundle for more money or they cannot buy the machine at all. The real choice would be to buy it with or without the game but due to the shortage this choice does not really exist currently. So people who would like to get the machine ASAP are enforced to pay for a game also.

People noted in other threads that in other countries retailers are bundling PS5s with controllers, different games, collector's editions etc, because they can sell practically anything with them as there is no choice between standalone and bundled in reality.

This is happening everywhere right now. Here in Germany we had 5 different bundles last week. Helps against scalpers too.

Beating Fifa when the country was in football frenzy due to making it all the way to the finals is quite impressive.

And sounds like a good launch for Monster Hunter Stories 2 as well.

That is the June chart.

That's not much of a difference since the console is extremely scarce, and it's a physical copy bundled.

They're not "enforced" to do anything lol. If they don't want it they can just not buy it, or sell the game on instead.

The bundle is likely Sony's way of not only selling more copies of Rift Apart, but flexing the PS5's capabilities with new buyers. It's basically the "it" game for next-gen showcasing, and the PS5 specifically due to the SSD instant switching rifts, not to mention full DualSense and 3D Audio implementation, so it makes sense they're pushing it. For new PS5 owners, there's no better game to show off what the machine is capable of.

Every time there's PS5 stock the exclusives jump massively. Hopefully this brings about the end of crossgen sooner.

EDIT: From bundles sure but I think also that Ratchet is probably now the go-to game for anyone buying the console.

The examples of games that jumped back up the chart here are Ratchet and AC Valhalla PS5 copies (a crossgen game)- both bundled with consoles last week - so I don't know as if it will.

Great news and surprising it's charting that high, didn't realize the PS5 was easy to get in the UK

eBay is swimming in copies of Rift Apart, you can get it brand new and sealed for around £40 now. A lot of these bundle sales are just people buying a PS5 through the only means possible and then selling the game on immediately.

Finished up this game last Saturday and I don't think I'm ever touching a ratchet and clank game again.
Clearly in the minority here given the numbers, just trying to understand what makes this game so great that I can't seem to grasp.

Thing is they make money from every Ratchet copy tho, unlike most bundles with free pack ins

Should be noted that 46% of all Players finished Rift Apart so unless the majority of people immediatly sell the Game and don't even play it once, lots of people seem to also play the Game they bought with their new console.
Surprising i know.
