I've been looking for one for ages and nothing seems to really fit me for one reason or another. I had a Booq Mamba Courier which I loved, but it's getting long in the tooth: corners and flap are completely worn through due to the shoulder strap and everyday wear. Compartments and size is perfect with a 15.6 Thinkpad and accessories.

I came upon the Buffalo Jackson Trading Co Everett Vintage Leather Messenger Bag and it looks pretty similar to the Booq, but being full grain leather, it'll probably last a lot longer. The problem is that I'm not about to support a company with an owner that idolizes the Confederate General Robert E. Lee and writes about him and the war against men in the company blog.

Help me Era, you're my only hope!

PS No Saddleback for me. Stupid prices with nothing that I reallly like. Owner seems gimmicy and extends that to the warranty.

Actually for my belated birthday I was going to get a laptop bag.

A year ago Timberland had a 2in1 bag. Suitcase and rucksack in one. I can't find it anymore. There are other 2in1 bags but I can't find any I like as much :(

Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

Go with leather.

Edit: Oh wait, you actually put this in the OP. I was wondering why I was seeing crappy canvas bags.

Interesting, but if it has a flap, it's going to need a zipper as secondary defense against water in my mind.

what's the difference between this and handbags they look like handbags

they do look nice tho
Haha...there's probably not much of a difference. Maybe the big one is two main compartments?

I thought this was going to be the standard for a while too.
Now I have a Surface Pro I can carry in a sleeve and a useless 15.6 bag.
Now that Thinkpads have number pads on 15.6+ models, I'll probably be going back to 14. I'll miss the size, but typing that much off center irks me.

$820 sounds reasonable.
I'm not looking to spend that much, but worth it if the quality is there to last 10+ years of everyday use.

I'll be watching this thread, I need a new messenger bag. I've got a Timbuk2 bag, which has served me decently over the years, but I don't appreciate how the main compartment is just covered by a giant flap and not sealed by a zipper or something. Makes me nervous that my papers and books and shit will get fucked up by the elements one of these days.

I just bought a JW Hulme Editor Brief for $995 and it’s amazing. Love it and worth every penny. I bought my wife a monogrammed JW purse a couple years back, and the amount of compliments she gets is staggering. Seriously... her Coach or Kate spade bags? Someone maybe says something a couple times when it's new. The Hulme purse? Every single day someone stops her.

Upgraded from a Filson messenger that will still be used for other things until the end of time. Filson makes great stuff; but I don’t love their leather options as much as their twill and shelter cloth.

Other great options:

Swaine Addeny Brigg at the VERY top end.
Frank Clegg
Lotuff Leather

Ghurka makes great LOOKING stuff, but their leather quality and craftsmanship, from what I understand, have gone down considerably in the last decade.

EDIT: This is what I got:

Maybe look at killspencer.

I have one of their canvas bags that’s lasted me close to ten years now.
If it was enclosed with a zipper under the flap, this would be perfect.

Thanks for the recommendations. I was looking at the Filson 24-hour too!

Bought one for $50 at Target about 15 years ago. It looks nice and has stood the test of time. You might check out what they have.

No reason to spend 10 to 20 times that unless you don't like money.
