Red Dead Redemption 2 arrives for PC on November 5th, and starting today, you can pre-purchase the game exclusively via the Rockstar Games Launcher. With a host of new additions and a range of technical, graphical and performance enhancements to make Red Dead Redemption 2 for PC the ultimate version of Arthur Morgan and the Van der Linde gang's open world epic. Here are the first stunning new PC screenshots and additional details.

New Features and Updates
Red Dead Redemption 2 for PC takes full advantage of the power of the PC to bring every corner of this massive, rich and detailed world to life from the windswept snowy peaks of the Grizzly Mountains to the dusty roads of Lemoyne; from the mud-spattered storefronts of Valentine to the cobbled streets of St Denis. New graphical and technical enhancements for deeper immersion include increased draw distances for better navigation; higher quality global illumination and ambient occlusion for improved day and night lighting; higher quality snow trails, improved reflections and deeper, higher resolution shadows at all distances; tessellated tree textures and improved grass and fur textures for added realism in every plant and animal.

After waiting for that full year almost, things are moving quickly finally! I wonder if those discounts on the Special Editions are worth picking it up here instead of waiting for Steam. I also wonder if they'll announce a character transfer option for RDO.

I can't even buy it via Rockstar Launcher because they don't support my country XD

Can't wait to see high end PC gamers' screenshots and gifs of this game

Wonder if the guns that are being ported from RD Online to RDRII SP for PC will also be brought to RDRII for consoles. Not really a big deal, but it's something they did with GTAV / GTA Online early on, then obviously stopped a few months later.

I wish they gave an exact date for the Steam version because "December" can mean the 1st or the 31th lol

Hope this is proper HDR we're getting:

According to the developer, the PC version will include:

  • Increased draw distance
  • "Higher quality" global illumination and ambient occlusion
  • "Improved" snow trails
  • "Improved" reflections and higher resolution shadows
  • Tessellated tree textures
  • "Improved" grass and fur textures
  • HDR support
  • Unlocked resolution (4K and higher)
  • Ultrawide aspect ratio and multi-monitor support
  • Unlocked framerate
The most important takeaways from our perspective are the unlocked resolution and the unlocked framerate, which PC Gamer confirmed with Rockstar separately from today's press release, which just promised "faster" framerates.

I think this is because Rockstar know PC gamers are going to mod them into the SP & they want to avoid the back & forth C&D's & PR disasters, so they are giving this battle up. It's hard to say if Consoles will get it, but it would be really unfair if they don't.

My body is probably not ready for 140+ fps RDR2. It's going to look glorious I can't even picture it.

Like other major developers in recent years, Rockstar is pushing to sign users up to its private platform, where it doesn't have to pay Epic's 12 percent cut or Steam's 30 percent cut. The free games are a decent offer—I'd take Bully and LA Noire—and I'm sure it'll get some takers. I suspect a decent number of people will opt for the Steam release, though, foregoing the 35-ish dollars in free games to house RDR2 in their usual library.

I don't know why this portion of the article reads as spiteful of Steam users. lol

I considered installing this launcher but they want to also install some weird, additional components. I declined. Has anyone else considered this issue? Am I over thinking it?

Visual C++ redistributable ...?

That and the Rockstar Social Club are the only things that their thing installs.

I don't recall any out of the ordinary stuff when I got it a couple weeks back. I'm not 100% sure but I think you either install it or you don't play RDR2 on PC at all, because even the Steam version will require it.

It's legit good? I'll enable it when I'm next on then, I've had it turned off.

Yeah, you'll be golden. I think there's two options now. I can't remember the names but one is the old implementation and one is a new HDR mode (that's actually fixed, real HDR).

It's not blow-away/best HDR implementation you've ever seen but it's a far throw from the blown out brightness and weird low saturation of the unpatched version. Fires and lightening storms and stuff look nice at night.

Yeah, PCGamer has a hate boner for Valve.

Much appreciated, I'll give it a go now.

Terrible Brazilian price.
Which means the Steam release will also probably have that shitty price. Gonna wait for a huge sale I guess.

Just checked the DF video about the fixed HDR. There's Cinematic and Game Mode. Cinematic Mode is what it was before. Game Mode is the new HDR mode. Still falls about 10% short of peak highlights and about 10% of deepest blacks but overall loads better. Does actually utilise your displays expanded range in Game Mode.

Sigh. You're talking around me.

Here:

The following components are installed:
  • Rockstar Games Launcher
  • Rockstar Games Social Club Framework
  • Windows Universal CRT
  • Rockstar Games Authentication Software
  • Chromium Embedded Framework
  • Microsoft Visual C++ 2015-2019 Redistributable (x86/x64)
  • Steam Client API
The social club is needed for the online, and I think it ties in your achievements etc

Most of this will be stuff that you have installed already. Nothing to worry about.
