Another thing. How can Blackwater be "gigantic" if the leaked map, or any of the map interpretations are even remotely accurate.

I believe one of the most precise map comparisons of RDR and GTA V concludes GTA V to be roughly double the size of RDR.

We now know that RDR2 is bigger than GTA V, but if you look at the mock ups of the "new total map", the RDR portion takes up more than half(approximation) of the map, making all the NEW states of RDR2 look relatively small individually.

And the problem with THAT is, that we have SEEN video proving that the, ehm, " general scale" of RDR2 is bigger than RDR.

So yeah, I'm back to being bewildered and confused.

It HAS to be bigger than V since it's their BIGGEST map ever. Not just their deepest, but their biggest.

This has been confirmed by many sources by now.

Wasn't it confirmed to be Rockstar's biggest ever map?

EDIT: New Telegraph preview headline: Red Dead Redemption 2 extended gameplay preview: Six hours in Rockstar's biggest ever map
Err, pretty sure they already said it's their biggest world.

sigh..alright who wants to avatar bet?
Unless they havent shown off like 2/3rds of the map yet then it isnt gonna be bigger than GTAVs map. Even with the
old map being back

It's entirely possible that Blackwater in the new game is far larger than in RDR1 because it's closer to the original vision they had for the town

Interesting. What are you basing your assumption on ? And why would Rockstar repeatedly confirm something untrue?
Idk. The leaked map has boundaries and we know the scale of it thanks to West Elizabeth. Im really confident it wont be as large as GTAV and Im fine with that. A smaller, more diverse, and a deeper fleshed out world is miles better than a map where 70% of its area is wasted barren space.

Just as an aside, I didn't consider any of the space in RDR "wasted". Part of Western fantasy is travelling across undiscovered country and feeling lonely and small against impressive looking vistas, you know?

Do we have the full map now? And if the rumor is true I just hope there's enough new land too. I want tons of brand new areas to explore. But that should be fine.

It's been reported by various sources and i believe R* themselves that this is their biggest map and it seems to match the previews and footage we've seen.
That said, GTAV-ish would still be fine. Besides If you could only traverse GTAV map on foot or horseback it would take a while (and i love doing so because there's just so much to see)

Enough of the map talk for me...for now.

So what do you want in the game, that has not yet been confirmed.

I would love :

Native American village/camp (not very likely)

Fully interactive casino steamboat(more likely)

Beavers ( Likely, since we know that there are 200 species. Less likely is my expectation of having beavers actively building dams).

More melee weapons than shown so far, including a cavalary saber and a two handed axe. (Likely. Perhaps not the two weapons mentioned, but a greater variety of melee weapons than seen so far).

Shopkeepers actually living in the same building their shop is in(Not very likely based on the interiors we have seen on the mini-maps.

Caves and even caverns( Not unlikely based on bats and mines being confirmed).

A simple simulation of working industrial sites, like the mine, the oil company, the sawmill (Likely, depending on how simple we can "accept". Expecting some pushing and pulling of cars, and people walking around the areas would not be absolutely unrealistic).

Last one for now, and this one is IMPORTANT.

NO AREAS OR INTERIORS SHOULD ONLY BE ACCESSIBLE DURING MISSIONS OR CUTSCENES.

NONE.

Well lots of sources have said it's their biggest world, and the footage shows that it's incredibly massive. So we'll see.

But even if it technically isn't as big as GTA V, it'll still feel larger since you're traveling on horseback.

do we know if there is an option to run without having to press/tap the X button? I really cant stand this stupid mechanic. You practically cant run and move the camera this way, it really feels archaic.

There's an option in GTA V. It's safe to assume RDR2 will have it too.

Apparently it however turned out to be exactly what we are getting. ;) They just renamed New Bordeaux to Saint Denis.
I mean the leak has been true but the the map itself was fanmade. Only half the map got leaked which is the upper side of it but the Redemption 1 side was connected by members on GTA Forums and hence we got that particular map.

What was the original vision? Never heard about this.
You misunderstand – all I'm saying is that:

- in early planning for RDR1, lots of things will have been different
- this may have included all towns being larger (or it might not have)
- due to console and storage constraints, it's possible Blackwater was much smaller than they liked
- with more machine power and storage space, the Blackwater we get in RDR2 might be the bigger, better version that they always wanted to make

I'm not saying this is a fact, no way. But I can imagine a lot of the "New Austin" content/world we can explore in RDR2 might be expanded, much larger than the RDR1 version, even if the game is technically set before RDR1.

They have also done this before.
Vice City Stories for example had new locations that was never in the first Vice City map.

If the remake of Redemption 1 does happen then they can "reimagine" the map.

Why are we talking in spoilers? XD

How was a fan able to get 99% of the new map right?
Because people didn't want it spoiled in this thread, that's why someone made a spoiler thread for it.

The map that was leaked had blackwater on it so people on GTA Forums connected the Redemption 1 map to the leaked map, hence that fanmade version.

They retracted it completely now:

So now the car is...sorta...back in the bag again?

Now we could answer that question, but in good consultation with Rockstar we ultimately do not want to give away too many spoilers. But let's keep it that the map is big. Very large, much larger than the first Red Dead Redemption.

Hey, if you want to accurately translate an article in a Germanic language, you're best using DeepL: https://www.deepl.com/en/translator

I'm not sure which parts of that article to translate :)

They have also done this before.

Precisely.

Even if it's only Blackwater, that Blackwater might be far larger

You're misunderstanding the narrative

- an image leaked months and months ago – a ropey low-res image, but it looked like a legit development map (covered in garish colours and marking lines)
- you haven't posted this map yet
- this map included West Elizabeth over on the left hand side, and the rest of it (to the right) was all-new territories/locations. More than 2/3 of the map was this new space. Suggesting there will be a little overlap into RDR1's territory
- fans remade the map with high res assets and details repeatedly
- the map you shared was one of these fan-made reconstructions, only originally the right hand side existed
- during the discussions/rumours about RDR1's map/world being included in the game, and the recent preview blowout, the fans took to their high-res reconstructions and bolted the original territory on to the "known" RDR2 map content from the original leak

Looks like my decision to buy the X over the pro will be worth the expense. Will look amazing at native 4K if true !
