Should I stick with 4k 50fps avg, or go down 1 tick to 2560 x1600 easily hitting 60fps avg on a 4k 60hz monitor?
Ultra Everything. Everything on or set to its highest settings except:
-FXAA/MSAA: off
-Water physics Quality: 4/5
-Resolution scale: (at 4k 4/5 [.800] at 1600 9/10[.900])
-Reflection MSAA: off

only real settings change between the two resolutions is the Resolution scaling,
I have mine at 4/6 of 4k, gives you 1800p and looks beautiful.

The texture quality setting seems pretty much broken considering it goes to potato immediately while many options have little performance and visual impact.

Yeah I'm not buying that this game is that well optimized or scalable. I have a 2gb card and I have recently played Ac oddysey and it looks great on a low VRAM budget. This is the first game where a 4gb vram card it's truly required to have a decent experience. GTX 770 minimum... Yeah right. I'd say the true minimum is a GTX 970 in order to get a PS4 experience. That's crazy.

For what is worth this game looks and runs better on my PC than AC: Oddysey does. Both have issues but far from unplayable, I wish i could return it, i still believe it could be better optimized.

This is where I'm at too. I'm lucky in that it launches and runs reasonably well when outside towns.

Decent results for such an old hardware, in my opinion. Vulkan and DX12 are doing wonders to older AMD cards.

Have you tried playing the game yet? I have the same processor and same clock speed and it will stutter without an external CPU limiter in my experience.

So I don't plan on getting this until Steam release but how's it fairing on 4c/8t CPU's? Is a 6700k enough to not be the bottleneck with a 60fps target?

I'm only getting those big multi-second freezes few times per hour, after the latest update. No stutter when playing.

Need to play a bit more but it's pretty smooth right now.

Fantastic work with your video Dictator, such a comprehensive and in-depth look at each setting. Definitely optimized and scalable considering most Xbox One X settings are at low.

4 day and i'm still getting launcher exited unexpectedly. So I guess I'm out of luck gigabyte doesn't release a bios with Agesa 1.0.0.4 for my x370 mobo???
Day four: A Rockstar Launcher update has moved me from "Rockstar Launcher exited unexpectedly" to "Red Dead Redemption 2 exited unexpectedly". I guess that's some progress but I still haven't properly launched the game a single time.
Not sure if you guys have fixed yours, but I have fixed mine. Try disabling all audio enhancements. https://i.imgur.com/xlfeeKA.png
JaseC I believe this fix has not been mentioned anywhere, but this is the only that fixed it for me, worth adding this to the OP if somebody can confirm it works for them too.

I don't know what they did for RDR2 but in GTA V AA is better looking and less demanding.

Have you tried with 1440p? I'm curious how it looks in 1440p as 1080p is a bit blurry compared to XOX version of the game. Maybe sharpening fix that but I'm not sure. I would like to try but I think I will wait another month or two till they fix stupid crashes/stutters and bugs...

I'm using the previous driver to the RDR2 driver, only 1 behind.
Is there any chance for some performance testing? How big is the FPS gain with older version?

BTW
Can anyone tell me how big is the difference between XOX 4k and PC 1440p with some sharpenning applied?
I have XOX and can run the game but I'm just afraid to test RDR 2 on PC now because I'm afraid of crashes and other stupid bugs... I have GTX 1080 and I know I can't achieve 50+ fps in 4k even with XOX settings but I think 1440p can be achieved with 50+fps so with FreeSync I can smooth experience.
Any experience runing game on 1080ti in 1440p?

Game was working fine all day.
I decided to stop and eat breakfast for a minute and now I come back and it's crashing on me everytime I start the story mode.

Maybe this port really isn't so great after all....

I've been so close to buying this a few times but seeing people talk about crashing and various performance issues, I think I'll just wait for a sale.

It's hard to do screenshot with nvidia sharpening enabled. The scene has it, but the screenshot itself is lacking it. At least I see a huge difference between screenshots I do and the scene on my screen with sharpening.

What I can do for you though is taking a screenshot and applying a bit of sharpening in Photoshop to it.BUT IT'S NOT THE SAME and looks better! But it is relatively close to how 1440p+40% sharpening looks on my screen. At least when things aren't in motion.

Those are Ultra settings:
sharpeninghkj3l.png

All you need to do now is start your Xbox and compare it. But spoilers: Native 4k > 1440p + sharpening.

Just gave it a whirl using your settings (couple of changes, TAA down to Med, POM down to Med, motion blur off) , 34 average at 4K. Everything is ran stock on my PC though so I guess thats why you are getting a boost :)

Great, now the game crashes every time I visit the barber or a wardrobe.
Didn't have this problem before though..tf is wrong with this game?

EDIT: Crashes during benchmark tests now too, ever since that new patch came the other day everything went to shit.
*sad cowboy noises*

You're welcome!

You still have stutters? How often are they and what CPU do you have?
On Windows 10, adding the game's executable to Exploit Protection and overriding Control Flow Guard may help with the stuttering issues.

You can search for Exploit Protection in your Windows 10's search bar!

Dude. Duude! I have an i5-4690, 4core-4thread potato.
That solved so much on my rig! Switched to DX12 now and the game finally shows the correct amount of VRAM in the graphics settings menu.
Played for an hour in the camp in chapter 2 (chores) and I had zero stutters! ZERO!

On Vulkan, once my VRAM hit 3500MB, I got steady freezes that lasted 5-10 seconds.
Now, following your tip, I peg 3700-3800MB on my GTX 970 and there are zero freezes. Was impossible on Vulkan. This is insane, yo!
It's gotten so good that I went Fullscreen 2560x1080 with TAA even!! Going back to 21:9 feels really cozy man.
Really envy you folks who can brute-force 60fps at this clarity.

Tried out internal res scaler for fun as well.

Gotta admit, if I squint real hard, the solid 60fps make it kinda work.
With the added bonus of immersion ;)

the Nvidia RDR2 drivers are definitely bad, i reinstalled them and as soon as i started the game i got stutters and screen flashes, when back to the previous Drivers and all problems are gone, i mentioned this before in the thread, after that is when i decided to give the RDR2 drivers another go, it confirmed what i believed, at least for me the newest drivers are the culprit of many problems with the game.

A 1080 for an Xbox one x experience. First time I have seen that. There goes the well optimized narrative.
Yeah, that's not great. A 1080 easily outpaces the X handily in virtually every other game. Yes there are settings which could be lowered further here if Rockstar provided them but requiring a 1080 to get ~30fps at 4k with console settings is kind of a new one.

Which driver did you revert back to? And uhh, what's the best way to revert? Full uninstall?
