Seeing Ludwig fall again, Thosar makes his way closer to the fight and waves a quick mote of healing light to return him to consciousness again. "Caligo cumulus." He then breathes out a small condensed ball of fog that glides toward the fallen J'raffa and grows until it forms a large sphere engulfing everyone in the area. "Make your shots and escapes before the enemy moves!" He shouts out, before moving back between the undead archer and Sagishi, hoping to draw its attention while the thief behind him remains momentarily motionless.

Galen can hear the strikes of Ludwig's blade against Crullus, followed by the sound of hooves. This victory is short lived, however, as Ludwig falls again within the radius of the mad governor's aura of shadow. Not good.

The archer pulls back on his bow as Thosar speaks the spark of vitality and vigor back into Ludwig's bones, and he sends an arrow flying toward Crullus, even as Thosar's fog drifts over the area. Galen had really wanted to avoid Crullus' death, but times are desperate, and he looses another arrow in that direction.

Keranos's lip uncurls into a smugly satisfied smile as he watches the enemy crumble under his godly might.

He returns his attention to Crullus once more, unleashing a pair of long-distance strikes through the fog cloud, again hoping to push him over the railing and into the tumultuous waters below.

Although Fhiess is no longer in immediate danger, the trembling he feels does not stop. The sounds of his friends' struggle as he remains isolated away from them only spurs his imagination to further drive him to madness. The tears welling in his eyes aren't enough to cloud these visions.

With no power to help, he finally cries out. Pain and fright play the sound of his message. He yells out to Crullus, "Don't you see what you're doing!? The agents of fear want you to kill us for them!! They're turning you into their next jester! Stop it! Please!!"

As has been tradition for some time now, Ludwig shakily rises to his hooves after getting downed yet again, seeing a good deal of fog and the shapes of some knights in front of him.

Figuring that at this point, the markets either will him to keep living or won't, he takes two weak swings at the enemies he can see, one attempt at swinging with his weight almost sending his sword flying away. The J'raffa half gallops, half limps away, preparing to make another stand that could be his last.

Even swathed in the protection of dire shadows as he is, Crullus still presents enough of a target for Keranos and Galen to each land an attack, eliciting screams of pained fury from the wounded paladin. One of the Shining Guard takes advantage of Keranos's momentary distraction to come up from around the cover of the stair case and engage in close combat, swinging a longsword with enough force to cleave through bone without losing momentum. His first swing goes wide, but he follows through on his motion with a second swing that comes much closer to striking home.

Fheiss tries to repeat the success he had in breaking through the Orc Chieftain imprisoned in a cage of his own fears twisted and warped beyond reason, but whatever process the Phobic Anima are using to pervert the cause of the Endowed seems to have been far more thorough in Crullus's case. It seems unlikely there will be any reasoning with him while he still breathes.

A sphere of fog erupts on the third tier, covering for Ludwig's retreat from Crullus's personal vanguard of Shining Guard. In the murky gloom, he and the heavy knights trade blows, but blinded by the mists draped over them, no one seems to find their mark. Ludwig has strength enough to escape to the edge of the fog and out of Crullus's aura of desolation, but no further.

Thosar, seeking to make himself a more tempting target than the temporarily incapacitated Sagishi, makes a show of himself before the remaining bow knight. The unthinking undead creature is more than happy to take him up on the offer, letting fly at near point blank range with an arrow designed to topple cavalry charges.

For all Thosar's attempt to bring the heat off of Sagishi, the churning swarms of spiders on the paving stones don't seem to be having any of it. The mass of them surges toward the perceived motion of prey, the leading edge of the masses crawling up, over, and all upon Sagishi, piercing his skin with tiny, venomous mandibles.

Using the railing of the bridge to support himself, Crullus pulls himself to a standing position. His hand alight with an impure glow of miraculous power corrupted by darkness, he presses it to his breast plate and begins to stand straighter and move more vigorously as he uses a portion of his Endowed power to knit his flesh back together and repair his broken bones. Like some sort of... unstoppable non-stopping guy... he pursues Ludwig into the fog as his shadows consume it. The sound of combat echoes from within as the Shining Guard once more attempt to engage Ludwig, the outcome of the battle obscured from all watching from without.

When Keranos is struck by a particularly nasty swing of the undead knight's longsword, he tries his hardest not to react, but in spite of his best efforts a displeased grunt escapes his lips.

Ignoring the gash in his side, he steps away from his attacker, knowing full well that he is leaving himself open to another attack - hopefully not a lethal one.

He knows that there is little he'll be able to do to his assailant, and he also knows that Crullus is almost certainly the driving force behind these abominations' animations. If they can just take out the leader....

Once out of range of the interfering interloper, Keranos lets fly another set of lightning blasts, through the fog to where he believes Crullus to be standing.

Thosar reaches a reflexive hand out to try to ward off the punishing blow from the archer's arrow, but in a split second decides against it. It sails right through his armor and cracks a couple ribs on the way through. The wind knocked out of him, he manages to hold onto the fog despite the blood gathering under his armor. Healing will have to come later, the others are too in danger for him to worry about it, which makes him think. "Fheiss, get over here already and heal some of us. A real leader shows others what can help!" He then shouts out to Sagishi, who is absolutely covered in spiders. "Sagishi, get away from those spider swarms and take out that last archer if you can. I'll sweep away the vermin that come out of it."

He rushes down the stairs past the archer and the swarms. Looking to his left, he sees Ludwig's prone form bloodied and battered sticking out of the mists. He sends another charge of healing magic to try to keep him on this side of the living. "Galen, if you have any way of slowing them down, now's the time! Let's buy Ludwig some space!" Once the Sagishi is clear of the swarms, Thosar sends his last fireball to roast any swarms remaining, hopefully removing the archer or the swarms it leaves behind.

Finally Sagishi regains controll over his body, only to see it covered in spiders. Annoyed he brushes them off and sends a bolt into the direction of the remaining archer, before following Thosars advice of clearing the area, just in time before the space he had left only moments ago errupts into a blazing hell of burning arachnids.

The current situation does not seem to have improved, and the relentless advance of Crullus and his guard is certainly an increasing issue as Galen sees Ludwig fall once again. The problem, it would seem, is that the group cannot stop Crullus and keep Ludwig on his feet in this continued assault, especially once the governor reaches the J'raffa. Galen is resigned to run back to get the paladin back up when Thosar provides a similar quick fix.

Slowing these creatures down is not as viable as the archer would like, but perhaps at least one can be removed from the field...

A magically imbued word gets Ludwig back on his hooves from the verge of death, still assumedly harried by the two knights within the impenetrably thick mist. He is tempted to continue attacking, but the last scrape forces him to admit to himself that if he keeps pressing and riding as close to the edge of death as he can, he's going to go over that line.

And it's not that time. Soon, but not now.

With visible frustration, Ludwig forces himself back up. For what may be the first time since they've began traveling together, Ludwig retreats from the enemies and back towards his comrades. Putting some distance betwen himself and the knights that are getting increasingly close to killing him, Ludwig charges away as fast as his hooves will carry him.

Seeking to do battle with the puppeteer rather than get entangled in the strings of the puppets, Keranos falls back from the menacing Shining Guard, the undead knight not missing the opportunity to take a swing at the young godling as he does so. With a clap of thunder, the swirling vortex of shadows is flung backwards as Keranos's spell makes contact with Crullus at its epicenter and launches him through the air with a pained cry.

Turning to the ramparts and courtyards and windows of the fort, Fhiess makes an impassioned plea for assistance against the seemingly indefatigable might of Crullus and his enspidered soldiers. There is an answering ruckus in reply, and Fhiess can see the tips of spears over the heads of the onlookers and shouted curses as guards try to make their way through the throngs of people, but the crowd is thick and the passages are narrow, slowing their progress.

Opting to suffer injury instead of allowing the sphere of fog to disperse, the arrow from the bow knight's greatbow pierces his armor and bites deeply into his flesh. Gritting his teeth, he opts to use a healing word not on himself, but rather on Ludwig to ensure the J'Raffa has strength within him to get away from the pursuing knights that seem so intent on cutting him down. He follows this up with another burst of fire precisely calculated to destroy the ever-increasing number of spiders and armored archer in their midst. Singed and blackened, the knight draws its bow and prepares to fire at Thosar, but a bolt through the head fired by Sagishi's crossbow drops it like a sack of potatoes. What seem to be embers come pouring out, but upon closer inspection are revealed to be tiny spiders thrashing about as fire consumes them.

As Ludwig gains his feet once more and beats a retreat from danger, Galen opts to try to slow the deadly knights with a flurry of arrows fired from his longbow. While the ineffectual pinging of arrowheads bouncing off plate and shield are effective in pinpointing their location in the fog, but has little effect otherwise.

Unimpressed, unaware, or unconcerned of the dwindling number of allies, the Shining Guard harassing Keranos advances in an almost mechanical parade march, stepping into the last pace to swing his sword through the space that Keranos occupied only a heartbeat earlier, but following through on the return stroke in a bid to catch him off guard.

The remaining members of what have become Crullus's personal vanguard march out of the fog and turn at the bottom of the stairs to doggedly pursue Ludwig. Finding the long-legged quadruped quite out of reach, however, they settle their attention on Galen. The lead of their number swings and misses so widely that it nearly knocks itself off balance in the process. But before Galen can celebrate the lumbering awkwardness of his opponent, it recovers and lunges forward with a deadly stab.

The dark manifestation of Crullus's twisted will begins to move downward, and amidst the shadows the oathbreaker can barely be glimpsed to be limping along. But rather than take the opportunity to heal himself, he advances until his aura laps at Ludwig's feet and consumes Galen utterly. Raising his empty hand before him, he faces Galen as though he means to crush him within his grip as he slowly clenches his fist. The shadows seem to gain form and press in around the ranger, seeking to crush him in darkness...

One by one their enemies are reducing, but the ones that remain are still pursuing his friends relentlessly.
Sagishi runs along the edge of the middle tier bridge in well distanced pursuit of their attackers. He has already taken aim at Crullus, thinking that taking him out might also stop the other vile creatures, when he sees Galen being attacked by the two remaining knights and taking heavy hits, he changes his aim.

Keranos's armor deflects every attack from the abomination in knight's clothing. However, the attempted strikes were enough to divert his attention from Crullus, and now that he looks back, he finds that he has lost track of the foe in a cloud of foul darkness.

Changing tactics, he peppers the general area where he believes Crullus to be with a wide burst of thunderbolts.

With a quick step back, Galen dodges the knight's first blow, but it quickly recovers and strikes him with a powerful lunge. The shadow crawls over the archer's form, reaching out to squeeze the life from him, a constricting force to pull him into the embrace of death itself. It begins to pull Galen to his knees as the knight readies another blow.

The blade doesn't make it to him, as a bolt brings the armored creature crashing to the ground.

Galen looks up at Crullus, now a bit more visible, and he forces a couple steps back, raising his bow before breaking into a short sprint to ascend onto Ludwig's back, a pair of arrows thrown quickly into the veil of darkness.

With the others out of immediate danger, Thosar squares up and readies to stall for time. He takes the last stair down to the second level, sends a small mote of healing light toward Ludwig, and draws his sword, moving into position to intercept Crullus should he pursue the Jraffa. With a battle cry, a trio of spearmen push their way forth from the crowd. Lowering their arms, they rush the Shining Guard hounding Keranos, and with practiced efficiency use their attacks to knock the shambling horror off balance before levering him up and over the railing, sending him headlong into the rushing waters below, never to emerge again.

"Gods be merciful," the apparent leader of the trio says, removing his leather cap and holding it to his chest. "I trained with these men for years. Supped with them in the dining hall. To think that Crullus could--could do this to them. What kind of monster have we been serving all this time?"

Alone on the bridge, Crullus limps forward, his hand faintly glowing in the torrent of darkness surrounding him as he attempts to focus his attention on mending his wounds. As he steps over the ruined armor of his men, swarms of spiders follow after him, forming a crawling trail in his wake. The aura flickers, but only for a heartbeat before reasserting itself as strong as it ever was.

"You cannot stop it!" he howls as he staggers along. "You will damn us all, don't you see? Why can't you see! This is the way it must be!"

As Fhiess continues to heal the J'Raffa, he calls out to Crullus, "Look at yourself! You are only one and all that kneel before your throne are mere bugs! This is what your very own Telmur would be like had you gotten your way -- alone and helpless!"

He continues to plea, "You've been defeated, but there's still a light in you that can continue to fight against the surrounding darkness!"

Sagishi fumbles around his pocket for another bolt never taking his eyes of Crullus. While he isn't afraid of spiders like Keranos he can't help but feel like the sheer amount of them is starting to be somewhat unsettling at least. With eight legs to a spider ... just how many legs are there crawling around right now... Distracted by math that is beyond his capabilities Sagishi doesn't realize that what he thought had been a bolt was nothing of the sort and only when the little firework explodes next to Crullus in a flower made out of purple and green sparks he realizes his mistake.
The display is pretty, but ultimately harmless.

Keranos shakes his head. "You are defeated, Crullus," he announces. "Your Shining Guard has been brought low, and you have naught but a swarm of spiders to call your allies. Let us finish this."

With attacks flying all over the place, Ludwig uses some of his remaining magic reserves to put an enchantment on Galen, trusting the ranger's archery over him trying to throw javelins from afar. With any luck, suppressing the effects of the fear aura will allow him to shoot normally. Just to be safe, Ludwig moves away a little so he won't get caught in Crullus's field if the cornered villain sprints forward.

As Ludwig positions himself outside Crullus' reach -a tactic Galen greatly endorses, as the near immediate downward turn of events in this current skirmish has proven to be exceptionally harsh on the J'raffa- the archer readies another arrow, trying to track the location of his quarry within the veil of shadow. Galen wants to keep Crullus alive, but the survival of his entire group takes precedence over that of a governor given to the service of the enemy, good intent or no.

Ludwig's spell washes over him, seeping into his very being to purge the darkness weighing down around them, and Galen releases his arrow, sending another quickly after.

((Fhiess does not persuade Crullus))

((Thosar clips him with a fireball, but it's not enough to put him down.))

Bolstered by the dark energies of Phobetor, Crullus shrugs off a wave of assault, pausing only long enough to shield the eyeholes of his helmet from a burst of flame launched from Thosar's fingertips.

"I have had enough of your meddling, elf!" he shouts. "You are no better than your tree-dwelling bretheren polluting this valley, partaking of the rightful resources of Telmur and enjoying the protection of Stonegate, but giving nothing in return. I will not stand to have you interfere with my saving the souls of the rightful inhabitants of Westreach! I will not have it!"

Showing a burst of inhuman stamina, the ruined paladin charges forward until Thosar finds himself within the swirling maelstrom of shadows that roil around Crullus. With one arm outstretched palm up, Crullus slowly closes his fingers into a fist, and tendrils of insubstantial darkness rise from the paving stones at Thosar's feet and wrap about him. He clenches his fist, and the tenebrous bindings--

--disappear.

"What?" Crullus cries, his voice cracking on a note of incredulity as the malevolent force he had summoned fades into nothing beneath the blazing sun. Laid clearly visible once more, it is readily apparent that the deranged governor is not faring well. His armor is stained red with blood where it is not scorched and rent with the punctures of weapons. He leans on his sword for support as his shoulders heave with the effort of panting breath. He closes his eyes as hard as he can. In that moment, the only sound he hears is that of the release mechanism of a crossbow.

Fhiess falls back, breathing heavily. Did he just...? In disbelief, he examines his weapon to know for sure.

"Pathetic." Keranos's lip curls, disgust plain on his face. He raises one arm, and a bolt of lightning surges forth, knocking Crullus's battered form to the ground. He moves forward as he speaks. "I've ruled over the Heavens for thousands of years, and in that time I have seen countless tyrants attempt to rise up and oppress the innocent. It's always the same story; they drum up terror and hatred against the underprivileged, and ride a wave of bigotry to political success. Some of them even buy their own story, and you appear to be one of them."

Keranos stops when he is standing directly over the man, who is coughing up blood by now, from the impact of landing hard on the ground. "I have always taken a grim pleasure in dispatching of villains such as yourself. But before I go, I want you to come to terms with the full scale of your shame. Your country has forsaken you. You are powerless. Your name and reputation are forever tarnished. You will die reviled, a mere cautionary tale of how to become an abject failure. We will save not only your city, but the entire world, and when Phobetor is put to pasture, perhaps you'll be able to explain your failure to him.

Enjoy Hell."

Keranos's eyes glow neon purple, and his entire body lights up with primal power. He points down at Crullus, and a surge of lightning washes over him, searing the governor into a burnt-out husk.

Crullus's aura failing, Ludwig begins to limp in his direction to give him what all governors deserve - a good beheading. This lasts for about a moment before Crullus is skewered by multiple bolts and Keranos's eldritch fury. No longer in a position to participate in the kill, Ludwig begins clapping his front hooves together loudly and shouts "Yeah! That's right! Preach Keranos! They all oppress! To the guillotine with him!"

Galen slides down from his perch upon Ludwig, landing harshly on the stone floor.

Bow limp at his side, he cautiously approaches the form of the cast down governor.

When the governer rushes forward to engulf Thosar in darkness, the scholar raises his arms readying to defend himself again when, suddenly, the darkness fades and all there is in front of him is a battered shell of a man. He blinks and a bolt appears in Crullus' back, then the light from Keranos finishes the job and Thosar stands still. The adrenaline wears off and his knees buckle from the he left by the massive arrow. Wincing, he grasps the wound and uses the last of his magic to heal himself and slouches down by the ruined corpse of Crullus. His wounds fully mended, he takes out his pipe and lights up.

"Well, that was close."

Crullus crumples to the ground, his armor glowing with latent heat from Keranos's lightning. A foul-smelling smoke escapes between the gaps in his armor pieces, and it doesn't take much to realize it is probably a blessing that the visor of the man's helmet is lowered to conceal what terrible visage surely lies behind it.

In the aftermath of the battle, the armor and shields of Crullus and his Shining Guard are too battered and scorched to be worth much of anything except for scrap metal, and even then they're a bit too full of spider zombie corpse parts for most buyers. Some of the weapons are salvageable, however. The greatbows and longswords of the fallen knights are of particular quality, and Crullus's own greatsword is so pristine, it can only be attributable to some magical means. Though given the nature of the powers he called upon in his final moments, most seem understandably hesitant to handle the piece beyond prodding it with the toe of a boot of the but of a spear.

The soul crystal pulses as it absorbs Crullus's power, the mote within growing fractionally larger and brighter. Is it enough to challenge the Phobic Animus that lives at the other end of the valley?

((Everyone levels up.))
((Loot: Greatbow + 1 x 2 (575 gold each)
Longsword + 1 x 2 (515 gold each)
Greatsword + 2 of unknown enchantment (Probably worth somewhere in the neighborhood of 5,265 gold, provided that you can find someone to buy it off you and it's not cursed or something.)

(It's probably not cursed.)

(Totally not.)

(So uncursed.)))

Fhiess clutches the crystal as it glows with the brilliance of the fallen foe. He winces from his dissatisfaction, "Things could have been different, Crullus. You could have fought alongside us on our journey.." He shakes his head, "At least now he can't endanger anyone any further."

With the fallen paladin's gleaming sword nearby, Thosar looks toward it with an eye for its surprising cleanliness. After some time to let the adrenaline wear off, he takes a few minutes to examine it more closely.

Even as Thosar prepares a ritual to determine the nature of Crullus's sword, a close examination is enough to yield a vaguely disquieting feeling about the blade. There is a spider motif to its decoration, though it is subtle enough that it would almost certainly escape anyone's notice unless they had particular need to inspect it. The pommel is an opaque red crystal, but at the base of the setting there is a small head and delicate legs radiating outward, transforming the stone into the abdomen of a sculpted spider gripping the underside of the sword's handle. The black leather wrapped around the grip is embroidered with silver thread in the unmistakable pattern of a delicate spider's web, a design echoed in matching webwork etched into the fuller of the blade itself. The quillions are graceful and coated in black enamel, but have the uncanny resemblance of jointed arthropod legs. It is possibly of Drow origin, but if so it was crafted in the style of a surface-dweller's blade, which seems an unlikely barter with the baleful masters of the Underdark.

The ritual peels back the layers of enchantment to allow the elven scholar to examine its effects in full. Much like the crystal that bedeviled the politics of Hammerfall or the crystal in their possession that locates and captures the power of the Endowed, this is a bespoke effect. Once attuned with a user, the sword acts as a conduit to a reservoir of power, allowing the user to call upon it at will. There is no limiter or modulator on this connection, however, it would produce an irresistible torrent that probably would have killed Crullus outright if he were not fortified with the power of the Endowed. There is also a subtler enchantment woven about the sword that would best be described as an attenuated form of Suggestion; the longer one spends attuned to the weapon, the more tempting unleashing its full power will become.

It is, in short, a priceless relic that would fetch a tidy sum. It is also stupid crazy dangerous.

Galen looks over to Fhiess. "No, I don't suppose he can. This is an unfortunate event, nonetheless." With a sigh, he adds, "If only things could have been different here."

((Unless something comes up, there's not really any more from Galen.

What're the stats on those greatbows?))

Keranos plants one foot on Crullus's charred remains and clears his throat. "People of Westreach," he announces, magically projecting his voice ((with Prestidigitation)) so that anyone who may have gathered to watch the battle can hear. "Your governor was an Agent of Evil, and as such has been dispatched by Keranos, God of Storms, the Almighty Ruler of the Pantheon. Let it be known that I cede my rightful claim to stewardship of this land, and instead appoint the Good Mayor Hulna Stonecipher to preside over these lands until such time as a more permanent leader can be chosen. I trust that Mrs. Stonecipher will lead the people of Westreach to prosperity even in these troubled times.

"Should any of you feel the desire to walk the Path of Storms, I shall remain in town for the next twenty four hours, and will be available to enlist new followers."

He goes to find Hulna, mostly to confirm with her that she'll be willing to take charge in Westreach for the time being. If she has no objections, Keranos will proceed to his quarters, where he sequesters himself for the remainder of the day.

*********

In the aftermath of the battle, Keranos felt one of his most important powers return to him: the ability to speak directly to his people - to anyone he wishes, really - , no matter where they are in the world. He can sense that, for the moment, this ability has limitations; he is more than willing to work with them now, which will require a safe and secluded area, where he will be able to get all the rest he needs.

He spends the rest of the day transmitting correspondence to various parties, three per hour, only emerging to eat, drink, and use the facilities.

((Casting Sending three times, doing a Short Rest, rinse and repeat until all the following messages are sent out. Waiting to get responses each time before I move on to the next))

To Bareg, the highest ranking of the 6 followers he gained in the White Wastes: Keranos greets you, Wise Bareg. How fares the Train? Has the Chieftain been leading you well? Blessed be the Storms that guide you.

To Barrow Stonecipher: Barrow, it's Keranos. Are you alright? Sorry about how we left things. Hulna is doing well, is Governor of Westreach. Talk again soon.

To Vess Talbot: Ms. Talbot, what news in Bellows? Any developments in the Glurg situation? Situation in Westreach dire, but recently looking up. Will speak again soon.

To the Boy-King whose abduction started this whole thing: Your Majesty, this is Keranos, God of Storms and King of the Oneoroi. Are you alive? We're questing to defeat your assailant. Stay positive.

To the biological mother of his current physical manifestation: Hello Mother. Wanted to check in and let you know that I'm alright. In Westreach; about to go topple an evil tower. Love you.

And finally (for now), the mysterious person who Keranos believes to be Talos, who has occasionally psychically visited him: Alright, now that I can finally contact you, I want some answers. Who are you. and what do you want with me?

Keranos's proclamations are met a smattering of confused applause that quickly falls quiet as someone elbows the offending perpetrator in the ribs. The mute horror over what has transpired before their eyes does not reduce their receptiveness to Keranos's proclamations, however, thanks in part to Hulna smoothly slipping into the role of administrator with a grim expression on her face as she doles out orders to arrange for the removal of the remains of Crullus and his arachnid-infested cohort and stirs the onlookers into action. "What I wouldn't have given that it didn't come to this," she sighs between assigning tasks. "Crullus was nothing if not organized and forethoughtful. The documents he was concealing in his chamber, they were the plans of an entire war campaign to seize control of the valley and either force the Free Peoples to their knees or put them to the sword. If you… if you had not intervened, I don't doubt the river would be running red with the blood of elves and gnomes within a fortnight."

Her words backed by steel, she meets Keranos's eyes and adds, "You have to understand that what you fought was not Crullus, not as he had lived his life. He was a good and honorable man, and he died at the hands of whatever lies in that tower. This, this thing was just fathomless ill-intent wearing his face. He feared for nothing so much as the safety of Westreach, and somehow that got twisted and warped and turned inside out before being set against that which he loved most."

She turns to stare in the direction the ribbon of energy pulsing across the sky starts to bend toward the horizon. Even though the tower itself cannot be viewed from Stonegate, there is little doubt as to where it lies. "He was not a weak man, you realize," Hulna says quietly. "He had a fortitude of mind and strength of conviction that in any other circumstances I would have judged unbreakable. That the tower was able to do this to him… I beg you, be careful. All of you."

As Keranos takes his leave to head toward his chambers, there are more than a few lingering stares in his direction and faltering half steps as though to follow before turning aside in indecision. It seems likely that there will be a fresh set of disciples knocking on his door before he leaves Stonegate.

As he conducts his Sending ritual, he receives the following replies:

Leaving out some parts of the sentence so he can convey as much information in the space a Sending allows, Bareg manages to report that the orcs are doing well, and that they are encamped around the extraordinary gateway that had transported the Endowed from the depths of the Hauntaur facility to the interior of the continent. The orcs and humans have come to a truce, and they are hoping to see if they can't put the gate to a more useful purpose than exiling those half-orcs who decide to forego The Train.

Barrow replies with a "She whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?" that grows increasingly shrill as the longer he holds the syllable. "Don't ye move! I'll b'right there! I just need t'find th'damned fool horses. I keep puttin' 'em in th'stable, an' they keep gettin' out! I suspect it's the wee daft fairy havin' a laugh at me…"

Vess reports that they have had a breakthrough in identifying the source of the Glurg. An alchemical analysis of what they could salvage revealed that the primary ingredient seems to be a plant called the false mandrake. It doesn't take much research to discover that it is not something that grows readily this die of the equator, but on the southern continent it is an abundant foodstuff roughly equivalent to potatoes in northern agriculture. Ludwig would be entirely familiar with it if he came across some.

Keranos's mother exhorts him to stay safe and not take any unnecessary chances, and even if he is a god he is still but a boy in her eyes and she loves him.

From the Boy-King, there is nothing.

Fhiess frowns when he is told about the plans the documents contained to wage war in a valley, "Then your people that died as we traveled here.. that must have been a trap set by Crullus meant to kill Free Peoples.."

He shakes his head, "His desires had twisted but they became his own. I've seen what true mind control looks like to one of a pure heart. Crullus had wanted to be what he became; his steeled mind only served to shield himself from our words."

He then looks out to the stream of light connecting to the tower, "Now that Crullus' contract had been nullified, there's no telling what the spiders from the tower will do now."
