Hi hi, everyone, and welcome to our new Official Thread! This is our seventh season in here, and we're ready with more games of deception and murder for you!

If you were ever curious about the Mafia game and wanted to give it a shot, jump in! Our community is friendly and welcoming, and you'll surely make friends along the way, and we have help and support for new players interested in getting into mafia.

Mafia, also known as Werewolf, is a famous social deduction game pitting two teams against each other: Town and Mafia. Mafia players know who everyone in their team is, while Town players only know their own alignment.

The game is divided in two phases: Day and Night. During the Day, all players discuss and decide on someone to voted out of the game. During the Night, the Mafia secretly chooses another person to be removed.

Town wins when all the Mafia players are gone, and Mafia wins when they match or outnumber the Town players.

Playing a game with us is very simple. When we are accepting signups for a game, all you have to do is fill out this form and post it as a reply to this thread. New players always get priority!

A Mafia game is a significant time commitment. Our games can take about a month to play, and you'll be expected to post and contribute to the ongoing discussion to help your team win.

Finally, don't forget to follow ResetEra's ToS and Member Etiquette. Though this is a game about lies and deception and things can get heated, this is just a game at the end of the day and we're all here to have fun.

But most importantly, welcome! Through various games, gambits, jokes, wins, losses, upsets, betrayals and triumphs we have formed a community of individuals who have become something like a family. We hope you will join us in our love of this game and give it a shot. You never know what might happen.

Hi,

We have something special this time so I won't use this to post some flavour but to explain what this is about.

This is Mafiera's first CREATE-YOUR-OWN-ROLE Mafia.

Basically all players will receive an alignment and a kind of role (investigative, protective, etc). During N0 each player will have to create their own role. After I receive all the players roles I will apply some restrictions if they are too OP (or even ask for them to create a new role if they are too broken).

I know what you are thinking. This will be a shitshow. You are probably right. The game will be likely completely broken. So, if you are interested in playing a really well balanced game of Mafia, maybe you should skip this one. I'm sure there will plenty of oportunities for that.

But if you are interested in playing a weird and, I hope, funny experiment this is the game for you.

  • MafiEra Vote Tool, a website that allows you to see a game's current post and vote counts, and other features like checking in which phase a player left the game, who were the winners, and more!
  • Vote Tool userscript (Era|OM) - allows the user to see the current game's vote count at the top and bottom of a page.
  • Isolating Posts (ISO) userscript - allows the user to search all posts from a single player with a handy button.
  • PlayerInfo userscript - allows the user to access the player list at any time in the reply box.

Mafia championships
Beginning in 2016 our community has been invited to the annual Mafia Championships hosted by Mafia Universe. Over 225 different forum mafia communities have participated in this event with hundreds of different players over the years. Representing us in these games are:
  • Sorian, who played in Season 3, Game 5; then the Final Game and got 4th place!
  • Ty4on and Natiko played in Season 4, Game 8!
  • Dr. Monkey with CaptainNuevo as a back-up! Monkey has played in Season 5, Game 7, in Wildcard Game 2, and in the finals!
  • Our latest champion: Faddy played in Season 6, Game 4!
Mentorship program
For new and returning players who would like some assistance, we offer a mentorship program where a volunteer veteran player can assist you during a game. These mentors can not play the game for you or answer direct questions such as 'who should I vote for?' but can help with mafia terminology, general strategy, and other minor questions. You and your mentor will be given a private thread on Outer Mafia to talk with one another and we do not make these threads public after the game has ended unless requested. If you are interested in requesting a mentor, please contact your gamerunner.

For veteran players, if you would like to offer your assistance to the mentorship program please contact Sawneeks, or let us know in this thread. Do note, mentors are not allowed to play in the same game where they are mentoring a player.

Ok for real though, I've been working my way through Avatar for the first time over the last month or so, I'm on the last half of season 3 and yeah, I love this show and it's characters and the lore and everything about it.

This is so tempting to sign up lol.

it helps that Zuko and Azula have the sickest fight ever in the show. The agni kai is just *chef's kiss*

A link in the opening posts would be helpful to everyone - Review 15

Actually wouldn't it be adding some transparency/replicability/comprehensibility to have a link collection (on OM?) to all of the previous OTs and review discussions? Or is there no benefit to it and I just like my link collections? I don't know.

Furthermore why aren't we having these discussions here? The main thread gets more attention in general and it's not like we would've stiffled a big discussion that was going on in here? Keep it in one space, maybe it gets more people involved? With threadmarks we can mark the beginning of review discussions.

Primarily because we want to attract new players, so having this thread bumped a lot just for them to wander into a review of a season they know nothing about and did not participate in wouldn't lend itself to them signing up once games do start.
