Do we still use Metacritic in 2018 when OpenCritic exists?

Your question is understandable. I'm just trying to be consistent with the review threads where MC is also used.

I know. It's always been the standard when it comes to game reviews, but it's ok to change, especially when something arguably better comes along.

I'm not gonna bother with Metacritic scores, I'll just post my own most anticipated and my impressions:

Played:
1. God of War - AMAZING game. Lived up to the hype quite easily. I was sad when it was over.
2. Ni No Kuni 2 - Incredibly underwhelming. One of those cases of 1 step forward, 4 steps backwards.
3. Mario Tennis - Beautiful presentation, very disappointing gameplay. Imbalances all over the place, and lag persists since the Demo.

TBC:

RDR2
Yakuza 6
Shadow of the Colossus
DQXII
Battlefield V
Shenmue HD

Next year is shaping up to be a weird year, in that there aren't a ton of games that I'm really hyped for that have solid 2018 dates. Some games that we don't know about might be coming out next year, and some games that we do know about may be destined for 2019, or beyond. Nintendo, in particular, hasn't announced a whole lot. I suspect 2018 will turn out to be just a tad bit better than my list would indicate.

1. Red Dead Redemption 2
; The sequel to the best game that Rockstar has ever made, and one of the best games of last generation. It's also their first new game for current generation platforms. Every new Rockstar release tends to feel like a huge event nowadays, and this is no different.

2. God of War ; I'm not 100% sold on the new direction, but I'll give Cory Barlog the benefit of the doubt, seeing as he directed my favorite entry in the series (GoW II).

3. Spider-Man ; The Batman Arkham series proved that licensed superhero games could be awesome, and while that has seemingly run its course, I believe Insomniac is capable of doing similarly great things with the Spider-Man franchise. I was very impressed by what they showed back at E3.

4. Hollow Knight (Switch) ; This game looks awesome, and I've been eagerly awaiting the Switch port.

5. System Shock Remake ; I love the immersive-sim genre but never played the original PC game, so I backed this on Kickstarter in a heartbeat.

6. Shenmue III ; Having never played the first two Shenmue games, I still backed this on Kickstarter because a.) I know I'll like these games, and b.) I just want to live in a world where Shenmue III exists. While we're on the subject -- where's that HD Collection, Sega?

7. Yakuza 6: The Song of Life ; Yakuza 0 made me a fan of the series, and while Kiwami is high on my list of things to play next year, I'll be sure to make room for this as well

8. Far Cry 5 ; I don't particularly care for Ubisoft's open-world games, but the Far Cry series has been the exception to that. I really enjoyed both 3 and 4, and the timing feels just about right for a new one with a much different setting.

9. Yoshi (Switch) ; Good-Feel is one of the most underrated developers on the planet, and they're coming off of what I consider to be their finest work (Woolly World).

10. Darksiders III ; This is a sequel that I didn't expect to ever see get made. Hopefully it's a lot more like the first Darksiders, and less like its very disappointing sequel.

Honorable Mentions:

x. Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night
x. Kirby Star Allies
x. Metro: Exodus
x. Vampyr
1. Still on track.
2. Great.
3. Still on track.
4. Great.
5. Oh dear.
6. Replace this with Shenmue I and II.
7. Still undecided on whether or not I'm doing this or Kiwami 2. Don't want to overdo the Yakuza.
8. About what I expected. Very fun, dumb time.
9. Oops.
10. ???
x. Still waiting.
x. Meh.
x. Oops.
x. Waiting for price drop.

The top games have delivered and it would seem that they'll continue to, but a bit iffy after that. It really has been a weird year.

Obviously Hitman 2 and Smash Bros. would have been on my list had they been announced at that point.

Nice summary, BrickArts295

The bonus list is also interesting. Who would've expected Astro Bot? I had no idea if it was even announced back then. Nice surprises here.

Lastly, my anticipated list for 2018 here was only Fire Emblem and nothing else at all and even that got delayed, so that looks quite strange in retrospect.

428 was announced for localisation in early 2017, they just didn't mention it again for about a year.
