And?
Zelda was the most antecipated and won the majority of GOTYs.
That didn't change the fact the PS4 had an amazing year and that lots of the games on 2017 list lived up for their hype.
He's not talking about sales but how 2017's GOTY list is going to end up.
That makes no sense. Most of the GOTY contenders are on that list. He's not talking about sales but how 2017's GOTY list is going to end up.
Only games confirmed for 2018 were eligible. Bayonetta 3 probably won't come out till 2019.
May or june.
With PS4 having way more good\great titles than any other consoles and selling more consoles than any other console as well? What game other than Mario and MAYBE splatoon 2 would have been in this top 10?Just to compare, I went back to look at gaf's 2017 list.
1. Zelda
2. Persona 5
3. Horizon
4. RDR2
5. Mass Effect: Andromeda
6. Nier: Automata
7. Nioh
8. Resident Evil 7
9. Gravity Rush 2
10. Ni No Kuni 2
So ends the Zelda/Persona streak, it was a good run. In general, with the sole exception of Zelda, one would've believed 2017 to be Playstation's year as well, yet we all know how it turned out in the end. Like last year's list, Nintendo hasn't talked much about their 2018 slate, which they should be doing so in the coming month(s). I'm convinced some of the rankings would have switched (heh) around if we actually knew and have seen some of what was coming this year.
I also kind of wonder if KH3 would've been higher if more people believed it was coming out this year. :P
In your opinion .to me the list looks perfect as it is and heavy rain was a masterpiece so Detroit might turn out that way or at least people who are anticipating it hoping that it does .No nintendo, so list is hella lopsided and very dull. I mean fucking David cage and a sotc remaster in the top ten makes 2018 look real anemic.
Praying for bayonetta 3 to save gaming in 2018

To be honest, I am not sure. I'm no pikmin, smash or Pokemon fan. The new yoshi and kirby don't seem like something I'll be hyped about either. Only MP4, Mario maker, fire emblem are things I'm looking forward to but I'm hoping that Nintendo don't rest on their laurels and keep on making new IPs like they did with Splatoon and ARMS. I just want to be surprised and want them to take risks with their classic IPs like they did with Zelda and Mario. What Nintendo games specifically are you hyped for, or would change your opinion on the outlook for the year?

Splatoon 2 and ARMS aren't winning any GOTY awards, so you're basically just arguing over the absence of one game last year: Mario Odyssey. The only other missing GOTY contenders weren't Nintendo games and were generally pretty big surprises (PUBG and Divinity: OS 2). So I'm not seeing what's so useless about it.We're talking about Nintendo games being absent from the 2017 most anticipated games.
Same for 2018. Since Nintendo play their cards very close to their chest, those lists are mostly useless at this time of the year.
As I said earlier, by next week, the results should be quite different if a Nintendo Direct happens.

How did it turn out in the end? A fantastic year for gaming is definitely my take. I'd be ecstatic if there are two games of the caliber of Mario or Zelda out on the Switch in 2018.
Well the PS4 ended up selling 20.6 million consoles in 2017, which is its best selling 12 month period ever. So it turned out pretty good in the end.

How did it turn out in the end ? 2017 was one of the best years in gaming history for Playstation.
The lack of Nintendo games on the list is a result of the lack Nintendo announcements for 2018.
This could change with the upcoming ND? Yeah it can, but also there is a chance it wont.
If we are going to take this route who knows what can happen at E3? Bethesda can come out and say "hey here is your TES VI, enjoy it in November", MS will probably come out with Forza Horizon 4 etc etc.
Anyway I dont see how ND could bring "quite a difference" maybe it could bring a "little diference" with Metroid and/or Pokemon if they are indeed 2018 games.
Just like Mario Odissey would the only one that would make into 2017 list even with we had dates for all Switch games back in the past.
Maybe Splatoon 2.
I must say tho that the former poster said "In general, with the sole exception of Zelda, one would've believed 2017 to be Playstation's year as well, yet we all know how it turned out in the end." I don't know how this translates into this turns this lists useless but ok.
Oh I'm not denying it's popularity aha. Just a very weird coincidence that after all these years I'd never really heard of it lol.its definitely surprising. The reveal gameplay/trailer has almost 19M views on YouTube

Weak year.
2017 stays on another level (perhaps with RDR2 exception)
Splatoon 2 would have definitely been above Gravity Rush and Ni No Kuni 2. Probably ARMS too. Heck maybe even 1-2 Switch at that moment (it sold 6x GR2 probably). Going from 1:10 to 3-4:10 does create a different top 10.With PS4 having way more good\great titles than any other consoles and selling more consoles than any other console as well? What game other than Mario and MAYBE splatoon 2 would have been in this top 10?
1-2 sold because it was a launch title and nobody expected something great so I don't see why you think many would put it in their top 10 but whatever it doesn't matter since Mario and Splatoon 2 (if it does) would already take 9 and 10 out and there's no way in hell Arms or 1-2 switch would take any game from 1-8. So again 1 missing for sure and another maybe. If we're going to take count then there's always surprises that people would come back and vote for if they had the chance from games that isn't from Nintendo as well. maximum of two games isn't something that can render the list useless and make it unrepresentative of the year we had since it's the nature of these lists to miss a few of the big surprises throughout the year.Splatoon 2 would have definitely been above Gravity Rush and Ni No Kuni 2. In what way? Many games and we still in january...Weak year.
