It’s gonna be real interesting when we get into the RE6 remake

I don’t even know and I’ve beateb it a few times lol. It’s not anything that’s a big deal though.
I salivate every time I imagine a RE5 remake.

Hopefully it happens before I die lmao.

So... you guys think there will be a surprise cameo from Wesker?
pretty please make this pipedream come true =)
He's not in Raccoon City but he can still have a cameo communicating with Ada like in UC. There's also minigames.

Man, theses faces (Leon's and Claire's) are so strange. I believe the remake of RE2 should follow the same direction as RE Remake. The devs shouldn't try to change the gameplay so much (just polish it) and keep an art consistency relating to the original game.

Leon doesn't look as badass as before and Claire looks like some bad porn actress face. Lame.

I will say, I wish the characters looked more like their previous iterations. The models they chose to base Leon and Claire on don't look like them. I posted this image back in June, as comparison (RE2, Darkside Chronicles, RE2make):
That being said, they've grown on me, and I'm sure I'll like these versions of the characters quite a bit by the time I'm done with the game.

Sorry, but this is the best Leon has ever looked.
It's not about best or worst in terms of handsome or ugly. It's about whether or not he believably looks like the same character. I don't think he does, except for the hairstyle. I wouldn't know the person in your avatar is Leon, had I not already seen that was one of the outfits for him in RE2make.

RE has always had an appearance and voice consistency problem, perhaps the most egregious of any series. They'll get Julia Voth's face for Jill in a buncha games, then toss her aside and make the character look strange in Revelations. Have Alyson Court be the voice of Claire Redfield for years on end, then not bring her back for Revelations 2 or RE2make, for some reason. Finally, they'll have Roger Craig Smith knock it out of the park with his performance as Chris Redfield across multiple games, then completely, totally alter "Chris" in both look and voice for RE7. It's bizarre, man.

An example to the contrary of all this would be the Yakuza series, where, generational leaps aside (obviously altering the character a bit for added fidelity), Kazuma Kiryu has looked and sounded exactly the same for over a decade now... because he's still the same guy.

He looks very similar to his RE4 model. Just look at the gif I just posted. Slimmer nose, but that's it. Of course, the noire costume is an exception. But no RE character has ever had a consistent face. This doesn't look any less Leon than the one in Vendetta, or Darkside Chronicles. Neither of which looks anything like the doll like CGI in RE2, or the Jensen Ackles look-alike in Damnation and RE6.

You're not gonna get any closer than this by scanning real people's faces though. This is not a RE7 Chris situation. Both Leon and Claire look appropriate considering the technology used. Claire even looks her age, which she certainly did not in previous portrayals of the RE2 story.

Kazuma Kiryu has looked and sounded exactly the same for over a decade now... because he's still the same guy.
Bad example. To the best of my knowledge his face is not based off scanning that of a real person. It's easier to keep a completely fictional polygon face consistent. And the leap between PS2-PS4 isn't that big. They could easily have kept working on the same base model and improved it over time. RE has gone from PS1 CGI to scanning real people's faces and everything in between. Expecting total consistency out of this is foolish and unrealistic.

Sorry, but the new Leon is not the odd one out.

Half the discussion about Resident Evil is always nonsense shit about what the characters look like
It is and it’s tiring to read. There’s nothing wrong with the way these characters look. Leon is not meant to look like a badass in this game and Claire looks fine too.

I watched that gif a bunch of times before posting. I'm just not seeing Leon in there, I guess.

He's got a cleft chin now, out of nowhere. That's the most pronounced thing. Eyes are more "innocent", brow ridge is less prominent. I suspect that's why Serge Chrono believes him to look "less badass", actually. Darkside Chronicles Leon has a persistent look of focus and determination on his face:

Which is absent from his more recent look. They obviously opted to go for a greener, younger rookie cop look this time around, which I'm not trying to deny is appropriate... it's just very dissimilar from past designs, which (understandably) throws people off.
Resident Evil 4, Darkside Chronicles, and Operation Raccoon City Leon all look very close, as you'll see in the images you posted.

Resident Evil 6 Leon is exactly the same as the one seen in Revelations 2 and Umbrella Corps. Like, completely identical. Might even be a straight model import, in regards to the face.

OG RE2 Leon is obviously going to look bad because... well, he's a PS1 character. No surprise there.

That leaves the wack movie versions (which are all just different shades of awful, sadly), and of course, RE2make Leon.

There's definitely consistency, but you act as though he's a different looking guy every single time. Not the case by a long shot.

Honest question: Why is so much importance placed on "borrowing" an actor's face? To my knowledge, Jordan Mcewen (model for Claire) won't be doing mocap, nor voicing the character.

All of Naughty Dog's characters for Uncharted and The Last of Us are completely fictional, video game constructs, not based on any particular actor's face. Regardless, they're exceptionally well-animated and believable. Facial scans don't seem mandatory for realism, especially not for legacy video game characters like Leon and Claire.

Welp, guess it turns out it's something people take notice of and actually care about if it's half the discussion, then. Who would've thought?

In the past week, I've posted an LTTP thread for REmake, talked about RE5 Versus in the "RE6, we forgive you king" thread, posted RE6 impressions, partook in the community Discord + the past few pages of this very thread... none of it was concerning faces, character models, anything like that. Don't undermine valid discussion just because you personally don't see the point. Not like we're otherwise seeing an influx of activity at this moment, so I'm just shootin' the shit.

Complaining about that is like complaining about Batman having a cleft chin with Affleck vs Bale or when different comic artists draw him with/without one.
This is a reimagining they can change what they wish to change.
Claire doesn’t have redish hair either out of nowhere.

I hope you’re not taking the half the discussion bit to literally mean half the discussion here?

I’m glad you are taking part in all of these discussions and bringing up and making topics it’s commendable. I love to find people who love Resident Evil as much as I do. But regarding the looks of the characters they’re never going to please everyone with how they look or find someone who is a 1:1 representation of the characters they are supposed to look like. It’s redundant, it’s not a simple process.

If I did that all the time I’d be annoyed at a lot of the picks for characters in the comic and videogame movies.

Nahh, I knew it was meant in the general sense. Half is obviously an exaggeration, but there's definitely some truth to RE fans all around discussing faces, ships, etc. quite a lot. Ships have never been a point of interest for me personally, but I do care about consistent face and voice. RE4 is one of my favorite games ever, so you can imagine my disappointment when it wasn't Paul Mercier's voice in RE6. Just want cohesion across the franchise, since I think it aids the immersion factor when you can go on a journey with a character across several games, across many years.

What you've said is reasonable, however. As stated in my original post, I think these versions of the characters will grow on me, once I actually play it.

No, you're the one acting as if the new Leon is the odd one out when it's clearly not. He wasn't super consistent all the way up until now. That's just a ridiculous claim.

I totally get you with the consistency, Leon’s on his fourth voice actor by now. I might have to get used to his voice too, Mercier was the best of them.
Yeah a journey I’m feeling you on that as I’m looking to replay the whole series after this releases.
You’re original points are valid of course, I just like to give characters a chance in full before I write them off even if I have my fears or concerns about them.

I just wish Capcom had consistency for their characters, voice and face.

If they look like who they're meant to look like then everything's gravy.

So far I've been of the opinion that I love everyone's new looks so far as they're recognisable.
Except for Chris.

If Capcom don't scan Julia Voth for the eventual RE3make.... :(

Realism.

I addressed the realism point: Naughty Dog is just one example of a developer who makes their character faces from scratch, and does a damn fine job making them look like real, believable people.

Insomniac also did an amazing job with this in Spider-Man, I feel. Some of the characters are based on their voice actors (May, Martin Li, Octavius), but others are not (Peter, MJ, Fisk). You aren't able to discern which is which.

Saying Leon was super consistent up to now is a ridiculous claim, I agree. That's why it's a claim I never made. This is what I said:
RE has always had an appearance and voice consistency problem, perhaps the most egregious of any series.
I'm agreeing with you on that front, you see.

He has had "phases" of consistency, something I did demonstrate above. RE4 look was de-aged for Darkside Chronicles and Operation Raccoon City, while RE6 Leon got some use for awhile there. If they can stick to RE2make Leon and not change him up again for the next game he appears in (other than aging him up, of course), I'll be a happy camper.

(I'm not counting the movie designs btw, simply because everyone looks super off-model in those, and they're not the games. Degeneration is the only one I've actually seen, and that was years ago. Guessing they outsource these to a different production studio every time.)
I totally get you with the consistency, Leon’s on his fourth voice actor by now. I might have to get used to his voice too, Mercier was the best of them.

These face concerns are nitpicks, in the grand scheme of things. I've really liked what I've seen of the gameplay so far, even if it's just small snippets here and there. Game is gonna be amazing for sure.

If RCS had voiced Chris in Vendetta it might just have been the best movie ever, not that the new guy was bad but they already had Mercer as Leon, could just have nabbed Roger. :(

We finally got a cool looking chris but wrong voice

this stuff is just all over the place

He did such a great job in 6

Yeeeeeah about that. Kevin Dorman was Chris before RCS was Chris. Hell he was even Leon at one point.

The devs could have tried to be more accurate in the portrait of the original characters.
And this is where we disagree. I feel like the new Leon looks very much like you'd expect a 21 year old Leon to look like with modern graphics. Certainly looks more like Leon than his Degeneration and Vendetta incarnations. And let's also not pretend that RE4 and RE6 Leon somehow look alike. They used two completely different face models.

speaking of VA's, i recently was watching this and still have a fond memories of the original VA. He said his likeness was used for Leon.

And there were people who wanted Haddad to reprise the younger Leon voice. He doesn’t sound too far off from Stan Lee poor dude.

Edit: such a sad story, I’m glad he pulled through it.

This is great davidwhangchoi thanks for the link. Nice to hear his thoughts on the game since it’s the first times he’s seen it.
Very cool to learn some behind the scenes stuff.

He actually sounds like Leon. the voice connection/quality and his phone speaker is poor plus he doesn't remember the tone from lines from so years ago but this one sounds perfect:

Ok, I have to be blunt, regarding Resident Evil Zero so far: the game is a smashed turd. Half the "gameplay" is spending time managing your inventory (in which the controls for moving and swapping stuff around feel tedious and cumbersome). You're expected to just throw anything you don't have room for on the ground, which is ridiculous. I have to exit the menu and walk to a different part of the area, just to make sure that when I drop my item, I can actually pick it back up when I need to (as opposed to some other nearby item). On top of that, controlling two characters at once is horribly implemented. What does it really add to the game, even?

I just died and stopped for awhile because the game decided to throw three leech zombies at me, one after another, across three connected rooms. They reminded me of Uroboros, so I thought they might be weak to flame. The problem? The animation for throwing a molotov is so slow and clunky, that the leech zombie has time to slash and bite me in the middle of each throw, severely wounding my character. This seems to occur despite putting distance between myself and the enemy. I guess I could try some incendiary rounds instead next time, but unlike in REmake, large weapons take up two squares of inventory in this.

This game is straight poop, y'all. I hope it improves, but considering all factors listed are fundamental to the game's design, I doubt it will. Can definitely see why the game is held in such low regard in the RE community. The only thing impressive about it are the visuals.

EDIT: Forgot one thing: is it just me, or is this also more of a "kill everything" type of game than REmake as well? Feels like I'm getting quite a bit of ammo, especially of the handgun variety. They keep throwing 3-4 zombies into an area, making them difficult to dodge, and leading me to believe I'm just supposed to say fuck it to resource management, and just kill a lot of the stuff I come across.

It used to be the worst one until it was "dethroned" by RE6. It's such a shame, because it's so pretty. But it truly feels like a bad bootleg of REmake, with a best of the rest cast.

Resident Evil 0 is the biggest RE that benefits from multiple playthroughs. Also playing on easy minimizes a lot of the resource management. Especially since as you noticed, the game is more focused on you trying to kill everything you run into than running away.
Yeah, so far, I've pretty much just been glad I'll know what to do in future playthroughs. I picked Normal this time, since I accidentally did REmake on Easy the first go around, with the game providing too many resources. Now it's the reverse, and I should've gone with Easy first. Oh well.

It's super pretty. Looks like it was made this gen, thanks to preservation of high quality assets. I like the CG cutscenes too, they're quite nice. No way RE6 is a worse game than this, though!

Question about REmake, when the Hunters start appearing do they remove Crimsom Heads too or just normal zombies?
The enemy layout in general changes depending on where you are in the story. Regardless if you've killed an enemy or not, they will usually be removed and replaced with something else. Even another zombie.

Just got Resident Evil 4 on Xbox One during the current sale, and I'm disappointed that it's only in stereo. :(

At least it seems like a big step up otherwise from the PlayStation 2 version, which is what I was playing before. Though that had Dolby Pro Logic II surround. Heh.

Edit:
Err...sometimes the sound of the fire in the village does play in the rear speakers, but sometimes it doesn't, it only works in specific angles, regardless of whether or not it's behind me.
But that's the only sound I could get to show up back there.

What is going on?

i loved resident evil 0 and code veronica.

i personally was shocked a year ago to read opinions for the very first time on the two games i loved growing up while everyone hailing resident evil 3 as one of the best... i was totally caught off guard.

read and understood the gameplay gripes though....

back then my experience was, resident evil 3 is rehash on location so it didn't excite me one bit. code veronica was so immersing with a brand new world!
remember hearing about Chris Redfield going to Europe? The excitement of 128-bit resident evil was so amazing on dreamcast and... WESKER RETURNED!!!!!! Aaaaaah

the gamecube came out after ps2 and blew the water out of everything with resident evil 1 and then 0.
i lost interest in REone half way bc i knew the ending playing psx re1.

0 being a prequel had me curious. what happened to bravo team and how did wesker and rebecca interact?

TD:LR i hold CV in high regard bc of new story progression from RE1, RE2. edit: RE0 bc it colors in RE1's backstory.
RE3's felt like a substory to RE2. RE2.5, nothing new about Chris or mysterious Umbrella headquarters. edit 2: like the entire plot was given right at the intro.
