Given the PS5/XSX|S stock issues, it makes sense to put the game on older systems. Also, looks like the game was internally delayed by a month.
Don't expect exclusives this year or next, 23 is when we'll start seeing way more in 23
Upgrade from PS4/XB1 to PS5/XS is free, PlayStation Store pre-orders also get an exclusive mini-soundtrack.
I mean Dusk Golem has been saying the game would be cross-gen since May of last year.

If the PS4 version supports PSVR, I'd actually be tempted to get that version, even as a PS5 owner.

I'm guessing it comes with a sizable downgrade, given that was one of the reasons for putting it on old gen in the first place.
If VR, I'll go for the PS4 version (and it's just a couple days from my b-day too).

I don't think that can be overstated. Why sell a game to much smaller user base when new systems are taking forever to ship?

The person who dropped that tid bit of information did so because the Xbox was having a bad news week or something.
When in reality the PS5 was always going to run this game just fine.
We don't have any detail about that, but rumors said they wanted to make RE8 a next-gen exclusive so they could do things they couldn't otherwise, but they were considering to scale it down and just make it a cross-gen game.
The RE Engine and Capcom in general have done quite well on the PS4 and XBOX systems so I think they at least deserve the benefit of the doubt. That's not just one, but multiple, along with games like Monster Hunter World on MT Framework that turned out well.

Ahh.
I hope the next game will be a remake of Code Veronica (or 4) instead of 9 - hopefully by then, 9 will be current gen only.
