I’m sure this isn’t an original thought - but I imagine a lot of people’s issues with review scores below 90 (specifically Americans, of which I am one) stems from our education system and the way many parents raise kids in the US to value grades / scores above all else. When I was growing up, a 92 and up was an A. And only an A was applauded. B was acceptable, and C meant “you better fix your shit fast.” Anything below C meant you sucked. Again, at least where I came from. I’m doing a bit of generalizing, but I think there’s something engrained in some folks brains where they see an 80 and they think “that’s a C.”

Nah, here in the UK if a game gets below an 8 it will massively effect if it gets bought. me for one wont buy a game under an 8

sure, I’m just speaking to the potential American mindset that’s guided by our education system.
I remember in college 60% final exam scores were considered an A by national adjustment. Village's score is a scholarship.
disclaimer: am not from the USA and your grading and difficulty for exams is likely very different

This really isn't true. RE8 was RE8 in early dev, but Capcom got cold feet about how experimental it was and demoted it to Rev3. Then as the game together and it got extremely high internal quality reports, they bumped it back up to RE8.
This is also false. It was the result of crossed wires. It started as RE8, got demoted to a spinoff (that was NOT REV3), then came back as RE8. Similar, but not the same. From the hacked document leak, we know that Outrage is Revelations 3, not this.

It’s late so I’m not sure the word I’m looking for but....why aren’t we at a point in gaming where if you shoot one of these lycans in the shoulder or head something actually flies off? Why can’t see at this point see actual damage. It’s like we’re still shooting at things and its like getting hit with a pellet gun until they just fall down. I’d love to see a game where you shoot at something and it tries to realistically fight you in a dire state rather than the ultra-gamey spongey stuff they’re still doing. It’s not like theres a ton of enemy variety.

this was a great review. nice work. glad you enjoyed it as much as you did.
Really appreciate you taking the time to read it and your kinds words!

Yeah! It's something I do on the side when I have the time, the site isn't a huge deal so we don't always get codes early enough to get a review up by embargo, but we got lucky with Village.

How long did it take to beat? Where's there side content out there?
14 hours for me and I took the time to explore everything. What do you mean by side content exactly? There were content restrictions I have to keep to until the game is actually out.

Totally. I used to write for a DS site in the late 2000s called DSRevolution and a short-lived sister-site called WiiBreak and loved it. Been missing it lately.

Felt very cool when Sega randomly sent me a physical copy of Sonic Rush Adventure to review. Haha.

Have you played RE2 Remake?

what is the point of these threads when people unironically think an 85 is garbage?

seems like we should just go no reply and let the OP be updated.

Yeah, I don’t remember do the zombies have visibly destructible body parts?
They do, yes, which is why it is a bit underwhelming to see it being removed in Village.

I still can’t find a PlayStation 5 here in the UK so, I shall be playing this somewhere down the line.

These are good scores, but I was hoping for higher after Resident Evil 7 and Resident Evil 2 Remake; lots of 9’s and 7’s and very little in between, which isn’t a bad problem for a game to have!

The gore tech was probably the most impressive part of RE2R. You could blow chunks off enemies, dismember specific limbs, etc. Pretty much the best gore in a game not called Last of Us 2.

This tech was dramatically reduced in RE3R. Enemies don't even leave blood splatter on the environment in RE8.

Ah yes, i remember now. I guess that makes this even more disappointing lol

I have no idea why they abandoned using this especially for RE3R. Different teams?

It's worth playing through once. But I'm not going to act like it's "One of the best games ever made". Because it's not even the best game in it's own series.
RE4 is one of the best games ever made. It's also one of the most influential.

You don't have to like it, but objectively speaking, you're wrong. 😂

Some of the best games since RE4 are directly inspired by it (Original Gears, TLOU, just to name a few).

Lol why do we do this every single thread? The reason it's seen this way is simply because of historical ratings for games. The vast majority of the most memorable or major titles or contenders for goty have at the very least an 85 or up.

Video game reviews skew extremely high. They've tried committing to using the entire scale, but the fact of the matter in general it still applies 50- nearly broken 60- mixed to bad 70- mixed to good 80-85- really good 85-90- goty type contender especially 90 and up.

This obviously isn't bible, bit this is historically have scored have broken out. I don't see why we have crazy posts with wild theories like this, it's very easy to understand.

RE8 is too open for such a feature. Too many enemies at once.

Resident Evil 2 has mostly small rooms or hallways and fewer enemies on screen. I've somewhere even Resident Evil 3 was too big for the tech and the One/PS4.

I have high hopes in that regard for the first proper next-gen Resident Evil.

Same. These cross gen growing pains will never not be a thing but it is what it is.

Hmm, 84 on OpenCritic...I expected better.

Resident Evil is a series with, according to some, one of the best games of all time in it. It is also a series with some of the worst games and associated movies of all time.

Given that, it is only natural to want to see something similarly amazing to either extreme. A middling 85? That just does nothing for nobody.
Also Capcom was on a roll literally with 88+'s with MH World, RE2, DMC5, World Iceborne and MH Rise. Higher expectations.

Oh boy I literally got goose bumps from the launch trailer. I really want to know what this game is about.

My biggest issue with all the latest RE games (RE7, RE2R, RE3R) is how they all take a nose dive in quality after the first half of the game, and turn into a more linear tedious game. It seems from the review RE8 suffers from the issue which is disappointing :/

man alive if mid-eighties is now considered "mediocre" and not a "must play" I fear for some of the Xbox related exclusive review threads. It will be a bloodbath unless it hits 90 and above lol

Having lower score than 7 doesn't affect my excitement, but I'm not gonna lie. I was hoping for a 90.

some comments here about action makes me a bit worried tho.
